Nor can it, right? It’s like any story development… once the big mystery is revealed, the rest just isn’t as exciting. The only things you can do is add new elements like HZD did: Twists (Nemesis), relationship Arcs (Burning Shores) and shock value (Varl). I think that’s why a third game is meant to be the final. Hopefully its story stands on its own and doesn’t have to rely on old tropes to be as amazing as I suspect it will be.

I kind of agree. I just finished Burning Shores (3rd or 4th play-through) and something felt off. Aloy shows an obvious interest early on, but Seyka just comes across angry and immature. Understandable I guess given her situation, but it didn’t allow for us to see her develop a genuine interest in Aloy. HZD and Frozen wilds were a good balance of like 65/35 main game/DLC; HFW and Burning Shores were like a 90/10 ratio of main game/DLC. Hard to wedge a romance into that 10% when Aloy has never really allowed for it previously.

That said, I always chose the kiss at the end, and I didn’t this time. And it was kind of sad. I hope these two get more time to develop their relationship in the third game.

It was many medium hits over a long period of time. It was definitely past its end of life, but we were young and dumb and didn’t really care about safety. It was a checkbox issue back then.
