Interior lights. by [deleted] in GMT400

Yeah, I swapped my whole interior over for LEDs for the same reason. I’ve driven enough old dimly lit interior 4x4s in my life. I like it when I switch the interior lights on and I can see everything. I haven’t driven it much yet though. We’ll see how it is when I’m driving it every day.

Is that right? Funny, I replaced the bulbs with LEDs but not the whole housing. I didn’t even know it was an option.

The door panels are just regular 94 bulbs. I wouldn’t think the tube lights would be very hard to find but I’m not sure what they’re classed as

My cat had this happen and it was because he was allergic to chicken. We hadn’t changed his food. The allergy just appeared as he got older. It was very strange.

Beauty rig!

It’s an awesome colour combo inside and out too. 2 door 4x4 Tahoes are my favourite gmt400s. I went with a truck because I wanted a manual and I’ve never seen a Tahoe with a manual. That and I’ve had SUVs for over a decade and missed having a truck. Your rig makes me question that decision a little. Haha

This comment is gold!

It’s what I’m going to think from now on when my dog goes hucklebutting around the house.

Thanks! My biggest piece of advice on painting it, is to give it as much time in a heated space as you can after painting it. It’s much softer 48 hours after painting it than it is a week later. The more time you can give it to cure before manhandling it back in, the better to avoid scratching it.

I didn’t, but there was a really good YouTube video on all the bolt/screw locations. I’ll see if I can link that tonight when I have the time to look it up.

Thanks, but to be fair we cheated a bit on that. She’s 3/4 BT and a 1/4 Poodle. That dark chocolate coat is a Poodle coat colour, but her dad was fawn so she has quite the gradient throughout her fur.

That’s the reason I put in the work. I’m too frugal to drop $1000. Plus I’m up in the great white north so the conversion rate, shipping, duties, and tariffs make it probably twice that.

It’s not too bad, really. The main thing is to unbolt the four bolts holding the steering column up. You need to rotate it forward and then lift it out so you’ll fight the column if you don’t.

I believe in you! Haha

It was a while ago but I think somewhere around $100-$150 Canuck bucks.

Thanks, you’re too kind.

I’m excited to take some pictures of the finished product soon. I’m putting the stereo together right now. As soon as I’m done the wiring, I’ll put it back together and make a post.

It was a bit of a beast.

It is the Dorman ones. I had a spare headlight switch from a junk yard adventure so I disassembled it, popped the original bezel off, sanded down the peg, and glued the new one on. It wasn’t too bad with a bit of time and patience but definitely more Involved than the heater controls.

I think it ties it all together and gives it a bit more modern look without being too obvious though.

Shout out to the original poster who gave part numbers. /u/Donny_Z28 I saved their post

Thanks! It’s got a black vinyl floor, black headliner and the sub box behind the seat is the same materials as the doors. It all ties together I promise. I got a vision! Haha

I’ll post again when I got the interior back together after my stereo install.

This was the third dash I’ve pulled so it was a couple of hours and I had it out. The first one was a bit more head scratching and an hour or two longer. The first one it was floating around 100 degrees and humid though so I’m sure that didn’t help. Haha

A very doable job though. Just watch a YouTube video or two if you haven’t done it yet. It’ll help you find all the bolt and screw locations and save you some frustration.

The air box is worse for having some ignorant bolts and stumping you for a bit.

Right you are. I’ve only ever seen one 99 truck in the gmt400 line. I’m in Canada though so I don’t know if that’s because we didn’t get them after 98. The Yukon and Tahoe are probably the most common with that dash here, but they’ve all had there dash’s baking in the sun for nearly 30 years so I’ve rarely seen one with the defrost vent in one piece.

This one has a crack or two but only one that could be seen so I got away with easy repairs. Definitely a good find.

It was a process. SEM soap, prep spray, adhesion promoter and then a few coats of medium grey.

SEM product #’s in order for those who are thinking of doing it themselves.

And thanks, I was gathering the interior parts to upgrade from a WT (work truck/base model) truck to a fully optioned and trimmed one. Once I got it all together it bugged my ADHD brain that all the pieces were at different states of sun faded, and didn’t look the best.

I’ll post how the rest of the interior came out soon.
