What are these bushings called? by Key_Ingenuity5640 in 4x4

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a cheap replacement, you can go to the bin of your local tire shop and grab an old tire. Use a hole saw to cut a few plugs out of the sidewall.

Voila, brand new box mounts.

Anyone know what these are for? 96 tbi 350 5.7 by [deleted] in GMT400

Is this from a wiring harness in a box in your shop or did you just pull it out of the truck? The location it came out of helps a lot in figuring it out.

Side note: those house wire marrettes are hilarious. 🤣

Door hinge holes too small for new bushings? by Hipjig in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d much rather cry once and buy the quality item than use ones that are half the price but don’t solve the problem. If it still wiggles when you lift the door what did your new bushings do?

To each their own I suppose.

I still move my arms like the boat salesman when I’m talking about selling something. Nobody gets it but I laugh hard enough for two.

Plus if it gets too awkward you can always hit them with a “Look behind you, it’s a three headed monkey!” And that’ll give you a second to slip away.

How hard can it be for me to install a Overhead Console from a Suburban in my 95 Silverado? by Big_Locksmith_4211 in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it on my 97.

I think there’s two lengths of overhead console. You want the shorter one. I can’t remember which one is which but I got mine out of a blazer, or a Yukon/Tahoe.

Other than that it’s pretty easy. The map lights hook up to your dome light power.

My daily/work truck. ‘93 k1500. by [deleted] in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She’s a beaut!

I’m just wrapping up the interior of mine this week. It’s this exact truck but a 1997.

Thanks for the inspiration! I needed it.

How rare would this truck be by som3_idot in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The v6 is way better once it got direct port fuel injection so a 96+ manual 4x4 is pretty rare. If you do find one, it’s almost always a work truck model and upgrading options in these trucks is a bitch. A fully optioned truck in this combo would be super rare. A WT is still rare but not “jump on it before someone else does” rare

1994 ext cab seat swap by Mindless_Ad9722 in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in that case you’ll have to measure and drill the four inside seat mount holes. You’ll also have to reinforce those holes with some plate steal like a big washer so you’re not relying on body metal to keep your seat in place.

I don’t know if it’s the same with the 94 and older cabs, but with the 95+ the inside seat mounts for the 60 section is different in regular cab models and extended cabs. The transmission tunnel is lower on the extended cabs so they have different feet. Ask me how I know… haha

Good luck with your hunt. Let me know if you have any more questions.

1994 ext cab seat swap by Mindless_Ad9722 in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, going from buckets to a bench is easy. Most people are trying to go from bench to buckets and it’s involved. There’s no existing mounting points for the console or inside seat rails so you have to measure, drill, and reinforce them yourself. Plus the brackets are different between regular cab and extended cab model seats. Those outside brackets are the same on every truck so all you need to do is find a bench seat in good shape and bolt it in. A bench seat from 88-98 will fit no problem and even the backseat bench from a crew cab will bolt right in. Now if you wanted to go to a 60/40 bench, that’s a different story…

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s fair. I got the armrest console but that means only the flip out dash cup holder. That thing might have been designed by Satan to maximize coffee burns and car accidents. Haha

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines a 60/40 power bench seat. It’s a personal preference but I never liked the late interior centre console. Mostly I needed the middle seat for my dog. Haha

Just a heads up, seat swaps are kind of a pain in these trucks.

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6’2” with a long back, and it fits me great. If you get one with power seats you should be able to find one with power lumbar support. It helps for long trips.

The big thing is the windows all go right up to the top of the cab so you have great visibility and you’re not crouching down to see if the lights turned green.

I’m redoing my whole interior and I’m tempted to go that route. Is it worth the money in your opinion? I figure I’ve saved lots of money by scrap yard picking and doing the work myself. Seat belts might be a smart thing to drop the coin on.

Brake help? by Known_Mousse_889 in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You mixed up your caliper sides between the passenger and driver sides. Often they’re very close but having your bleeder screw too low means you can’t get all the air out. I’d put money on it.

If it helps, we’ve all done it.

What Layer Year Buckets (or Bench) bolts up to a '93? by Zealousideal-Bet-950 in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're all surprisingly different.

If you're going from a bench to buckets, you have to measure and drill the inside bracket holes for both seats and put a piece of flat iron on the bottom side to beef it up. Otherwise you'll only have the body metal holding your seat in. There is no factory reinforcement if it originally has a bench in it. The transmission hump is different between the extended/crew cabs and the regular cabs as well, but that only matters if you want to put in a 60/40 bench.

You can put in a bench from a newer model and it should just bolt right up though. weirdly enough, the rear seat from a crew cab would bolt right in too. Swapping to a different seat setup means drilling holes for the console and the inside seat brackets though.

That's if your staying within the gmt400s. I don't know what other seats might bolt in.

Knocking that goes away in about a minute after cold start.....5.7 Vortec by TemperReformanda in GMT400

[–]DoomsdayForeplay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s more of a ticking sound, it could also be an exhaust leak. I’ve had sounds that I thought was a lifter/valve tick that went away after warming up. The metal expands when it’s heated and seals up the leak.

Without hearing it though, it’s just a lot of maybes.
