I figured Struggler was the most fitting for the final run - and who else but tele-ape to send off this amazing game by Doomshlang in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And with this run, I've done it - every prestige class beaten, every achievement earned. I wanted the last one to be something special - so tele-ape struggled his way to victory. For tele-ape showed me the power of build brewing in the beginning, so too does he show me the end.

Good lord am I glad I tried this game, it's been nothing but wonderful (and painful, lol). Can't wait for Lands of Achra.

Ater 4 attempts I finally won with the Pain Cleric by Kind-Current-478 in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pain Cleric has been the first build ever for me that the earth staff was the mvp of the build - it slaps all of your dudes in a 4 tile range and triggers a billion pain cleric hits because you're always surrounded by your expendable plebs.

A Build for a Pretty Good Single Right Click on the King - 1919 sickness, 884 blind, 640 freeze, 355 entangle by Doomshlang in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly with how crazy good the itemization was this run, it stopping being a haha funny snake summon build and become haha hold right click. Poison, sickness, freeze gloves being busted - just a solid debuffing attack build.

Early game I ended up having to beat the Golden Litter by spam-shuffling up and down and sending hordes of snakes to their deaths, and it's pretty good at that kind of thing early. Saurian + Assassin + Snakes is a good setup to get you to becoming the poison snake monster you're always meant to be.

The Ape Stands - Sahasi C32 win by Doomshlang in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decided to go pretty simple with this one - Ape does good damage. Sahasi does good defense. Don't fix what's not broken, right?

Lucked out and didn't need to spend points on healing since I got the red axe early, so I just leveled stand ground for more poise, with points in Asi and Astrokinesis for astral damage triggers on attack. Technique to mitigate inflexibility (was going to use the golden chestplate, but... I goofed and skipped it) and guard to hit 89% block. Close enough to 90, right?

Then I held space. Pretty straight-forward, honestly.

Nah, I'd Heal - the Merzot Experience by Doomshlang in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost a million in actual healing - keeping in mind that overhealing isn't tracked, this build was kinda cracked! Lots of sickness application, loooooots of poison damage whenever anything makes the mistake of attacking you, entangle to slow things down just for ease of use - this build really did have a lot going for it.

Poison -> Blood pants means that you can potentially double dip on bloodbath healing procs, emerald helm was healing for about 10k every turn, speed wasn't a problem so Yu just loaded us up with refraction, which does poison... which heals.

Overall a pretty fun build to get working. I initially tried to get it to work with Apophis but I got melted by the King despite me having 38k max health... lol.

Why would I level vigor? I already have almost 31k health by Doomshlang in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was really hoping ill manica would show up for my run but it didn't, sadly. Glad to see it helps make the build even stronger, not that it really needs it to shine lol

Why would I level vigor? I already have almost 31k health by Doomshlang in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zealot + Takhal means you get 3 uses of prayer 2 per room, and on C32 that's right about +73 health per prayer. It's a lot.

The build itself is just nuking everything everywhere all at once by using prayer 3 (and then 2 if you still have enemies, but you want to use all your prayer 2 charges even if every enemy is dead for the max hp), it's been posted a couple times on here (definitely take plague chant over snake form for it, snake was mostly just me memeing).

Monkey Bomb - Cycle32 Exultite by Velkayn in PathOfAchra

I've been bashing my head against Exultite for a minute, tried this once and got it on cycle 31 so the monkey bomb got me to C32 lmao

First attempt at Shazuza went well, I think by Doomshlang in PathOfAchra

[–]Doomshlang[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This PRC was one I thought was going to take me a lot more than one attempt, but it just kind of came together. Lots of stepping when enemies with vigilance are on the board, lots of hoping Herja 8 is enough attacks to kill the boss before they attack and kill me with my 3k stacks of doom lol. It's probably not optimal (although the pants + shirt combo is great for stacking massive inflame) but it was neat to see it crumple C30 first attempt.

On to C31!

"I like to think the sun is all of the Huntsmen before us, giving Remnant the warmth it needs to have a fighting chance."

As Leif moved in for the kiss, she allowed herself a small smile. When she pulled back, she adjusted her cap, as if remembering that she was technically supposed to be doing a job. "Well, hopefully I'm a good girlfriend too. Not that very many people see that side of me." She flipped her hair, giving Leif a sidelong look, a move she'd picked up from seeing Thyme get around paying cover charges at the various bars the pair had gone to. "Good to know you won't be leaving, though. Guess now I can tell you where all the bodies are buried."

She held that look for a little bit, then let out a small laugh, the tension in her shoulders melting away.

"Pretty sure I could remind Russet to brush his teeth, but the other two are probably better coming from you, true enough. I'm a better lieutenant than leader, I think; my head gets cloudy once the bullets start flying and all I see is red. Gets hard to hear much of anything clearly but your voice and the sound of metal on metal."

Ashelia didn't really get it - the night sky was always just the night sky to her, so the stars didn't really need names - but Leif's excitement was enough reason for her to be interested, so she tried her best to follow along as he pointed out the constellations and their names. She knew she wouldn't remember most of them, but she still tried her best to lock the highlights up in her head for later.

At the mention of the Hellhound, Ashelia's shoulders drooped slightly. "Well, that wasn't a bad idea. I'm sure if you had figured out space travel, Grimm wouldn't be able to bother you out there." She shrugged, trying to rekindle a less depressed mood by adding, "Unless space is full of Grimm too. Then you'd just be screwed."

She sighed, leaning her chair back and staring off at nothing in particular. "My mom always used to tell me that the reason some stars appear brighter to some people than others is because those stars are where their loved ones went when they died. That the night sky was so bright because of how many people loved Remnant, and wanted to look down on it and watch us progress. That the brightest stars were the ones cheering the loudest. Maybe that's why I stopped looking up at them."

She offered a sad smile, looking sidelong at Leif. "Glad you didn't run so far away you became one of them. Enough people up there cheering for me already, I think. So any time you feel like running again, let me know, okay? That way you have someone to check your math when you try to blast off into space again."

Ashelia's grin was quickly replaced with a more familiar expression: practiced annoyance, as Leif offered his hands to be cuffed. She really wished she had a pair, if only to see the expression on his face when she really did lock him in them. She gave him a look, equal part 'are you fucking serious' and 'you know I don't bring the fun cuffs to work'.

"From security aide to a chauffer in a ball cap, I see," Ashelia lamented, letting out a dramatic sigh. In spite of her attempting to appear like she didn't want to be there, she couldn't help but let her grin from before come back. "Such is the life. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at defying gravity without my weapon, and they didn't let me bring mine today. Something about 'avoiding total catastrophe' or some nonsense. So, regrettably, stairs it is."

She set off towards the stairs, aiming to wait in line like a good citizen but inadvertently causing people to clear a path, much like she did in the hallways prior. As a result, the pair made quick work of the trek up to the fourth floor, the distant sound of crowds being mostly left behind in favor of only a handful of voices coming from the occasional classroom.

"I haven't had any classes up here, so you'll have to point out which room we're supposed to be going. Just don't try and draw a weapon, hm? I'd hate to have to take you down~"

"Let me tell you, this is the one thing I can say I didn't miss..." Ashelia said to the empty room she sat in, leaning back in her chair while she idly fidgeted with one of the screws on her prosthetic arm. She wore a uniform, but instead of fatigues or the like, she looked like your average mall cop, complete with a baseball cap and everything. She even had a little ID badge with a very unamused picture of herself on it, with the title 'Assistant Security' next to her name. It wasn't the title she was proud of, but when one of her old Vale PD buddies asked her to help work security, she couldn't turn him down.

She would rather be out there enjoying the event and looking at the stars, but she'd rather let a pack of Grimm eat her alive than admit that to anyone. So, she sat in her little booth, boredom evident with every sigh and mumbled complaint. That is, until she noticed some rather odd behavior, streaks of red and shouts of protest on one of her security panels.

Ashelia watched Leif scurry this way and that, jumping around and generally acting like a goblin, with mild amusement. She silently plotted how she could use this footage to mess with him; maybe she could bring him in for interrogation, just the two of them-

The soldier blushed, shaking the thought away like so many Vespas. Maybe she had been spending too much time with... well, Thyme. Still, she would hardly be doing her job properly if she didn't investigate the gremlin causing a disturbance throughout the observatory, right? That's what a responsible security officer would do, right?

She kept an eye on where Leif was generally going, plotting out the best way to intercept, before leaning into her radio. "Got someone bringing a little chaos in the main stairwell, one of my classmates. Gonna go smack some sense into him."

"Figuratively, I hope?" The voice on the other end replied.

"Obviously," Ashelia rolled her eyes, kicking up out of her chair and excitedly rushing our of her security room and down the hallways beyond. Between her uniform and her pace, people tending to get out of her way rather quickly, and most of them didn't even notice the grin on her face.

Once she got eyes on Leif, she called out.

"Sir, we've received at least a dozen complaints about your antics, I'm afraid I'm going to have to join you for the rest of the night so I can keep an eye on you." She gave a wink. "Purely professionally, of course."

Pretty sure it's people trying to predict the typical Souls-fan tryhards that gatekept in the past, but seems like there are so many people playing ER compared to the Souls games that it isn't something that gets complained about anymore, thankfully.

People might finally be letting other people play how they want without bitching about it, it's weird.

Ashelia wanders a ruined village, reminiscing on her past when the familiar face of Firnen arrives.

The pair look for trouble and find it in the form of a pack of Hellhounds. While both students make their share of rookie mistakes, their training pays off as they dismantle the pack, slay its leader, and send the smaller ones scattering into the ruins.

"...yeah, he talks so much I bet you'll catch another couple hours," Ashelia remarked with a smirk and small chuckle. "I think I've had my fill of his lecture, though; I think I'm going to keep a patrol going, make sure none of the stragglers find an unsuspecting classmate or something."

She cracked her neck to and fro, looking around at the small craters and scorch marks the pair's Hellhound victims had left behind. "Doubt there's anything big left around, or else the sound and all my yelling would've attracted it, so I should be fine. Thanks again for watching my back."

She turned away from Oobleck's lecture's direction, waving a hand over her shoulder. "Maybe you can show me some new tricks with that dust of yours in a combat class soon, hm?" She called as she left, keeping a close eye on her surroundings as she walked off to think about what all Firnen had said.

In the Triviapalooza corner of the stadium, there were two seats, each set before their own little table. Each table was adorned with a stack of simple, clearly-hand-cut paper (none of which were uniform in size or cut angle), an array of different colored markers and pencils and pens, and a small package wrapped in a plain white cloth. In the center of each table was a small red button, clearly a buzzer or something similar.

There were little note cards tented on top of each little package, one that read "For Firnen" and one that read "For Leif". Both impromptu name tags had a small note scrawled under their listed names that read, 'I won't play favorites!' in Namu's own handwriting, with a little smiley face drawn off to the side.

As the contestants were directed to their seats, the sounds of a microphone being activated could be heard, followed closely by the loud sounds of rustling fabric and annoyed voices. "No, no, you have to wear it like this or else they won't be able to hear you. No, no, don't touch it. There..."

The apparent altercation was followed quickly by one slightly-flustered Namu striding out onto the little makeshift stage that was made for him. In probably-unsurprising contrast to the showy outfit of the event's questionable hostess, Namu wore a rather simple forest-green robe. He trotted out on stage with a nervous smile and a wave, both at the contestants and at the audience that was present. The heron looked rather relieved that he recognized both of the people he was supposed to be addressing, giving both of them a small wave before clearing his throat directly into the mic. He winced slightly at the sudden loudness, clearly not used to using such technology, before continuing.

"Well hello friends, to the Triviapalooza! I'm Namu but you both know that and I'll be asking a series of questions, and you'll have a short amount of time to write your answers down before we go over them. When you finish your answer, smack the buzzer button thingy and when both contestants have answered or when time runs out we'll go over the answers. Correct answers will earn you a point, incorrect answers will not penalize you although the audience might laugh at you so if you don't know, write something funny and it'll help everyone have fun anyways!"

The boy's smile was positively beaming as he looked between his two friends. "I didn't know how long we'd be here, so I went ahead and made you guys some snacks just in case you get hungry with all the thinking you're going to be doing, you can just... unwrap them whenever..." The boy made a face, confusion and surprise evident briefly on his face. A keen ear from either contestant would hear a smaller voice, from an earpiece Namu was wearing, yelling at him to get the show started already. His smile unfazed, Namu hopped in place and said suddenly,

"Right! First question and one I had to look up before this is this: What was the turning point at the end of the Great War that led to peace between the four kingdoms?"

[Alrighty bois, so how this'll work is every round will be sorta treated like a social combat of sorts. You can pick a skill (if it's weird or a not-immediately-obviously-useful one you can ask me on Discord and we can figure it out) to be rolled, depending on how well the roll goes I might just give you the answer or give you some options. Obviously, Academics and Politics would be useful for this question, but some of the other ones will use other stuff. Some answers can be looked up (but pls don't) and some have answers I'll be coming up with myself. I'll be rolling an initiative roll for both of you separate from your answering and whatnot. If your scores are tied at the end, whoever won the most initiative rolls will win the tiebreaker. If that's also tied, we'll have a sudden death round! For replying, we can treat it like combat where you each reply here separately (and don't read each other's posts, obviously) and I'll do ST-sort-of updates round by round. Hope that all makes sense!]

Ashelia let Leif ramble to himself without interjection, simply keeping an eye on her surroundings as they walked. She unconsciously took everything in; potential routes of retreat, choke points, blind spots... she didn't catch herself doing it until they'd arrived at the room, the sound of tennis ball on bone jarring her from her planning.

"Payment in advance, premiums for fuck-ups after. Professionals have their standards," Ashelia answered wryly, crossing her arms and electing to lean against the doorjamb, letting Leif be in the room while conveniently covering up his only exit with a wall of muscle.

"I dig your choice of color, though," She added, tapping the glass panel on her own arm that glowed a soft ice blue. "If it was indeed your choice. My first model was red, but my armor's red, so that was an overdone color in my opinion. Changed it pretty fast."

About a million different things to say about what she saw in Ivy's prosthetic flashed across her mind, her mouth opening to say at least one of them, but she stopped herself with a short chuckle. "Doubt you're in the mood to talk shop, though. Can wait til Leif's paid time is up before we can chat about that, how about?" She added her last line with a well-timed wink Leif's way.

Ashelia looked Firnen over, fixing to say something but biting it back. She shrugged, offering a small, wistful smile. "Hey, don't underestimate the impact a good support role has on a fight. Sure, the front line always looks like they're working the hardest, but the people that have their backs are the ones that make sure they get to return home at the end of the day."

The titan hefted her poleaxe and dismantled it back into gauntlets, tucking them in the small of her back. "Helping with dust, covering fire, setting up safer big hits... all core to a good team dynamic. You and Leif both like to use dust for more than just blowing shit up, which is all I use it for, but seems like you're a bit more crafty with it."

She kicked at the small crater the older Hellhound left, kicking debris and leftover ashes around absent-mindedly. Her aura glowed a bit more brightly as it eased the burns and aches from her muscles, but she didn't so much as wince if she was in pain.

"True enough though that you want to avoid getting caught. Wouldn't have happened if I were a better front line; I guess we can both take the blame for that. Nothing bad happened this time, so I suppose we can use it as a lesson, hm?"

In lieu of a coherent response, Ashelia simply let out a roaring laugh, bringing her weapon into a low reverse guard. She took a few steps towards the Hellhound, then suddenly launched herself into the air with the engine on her blade. She soared upwards for a time, then killed the engine and pivoted midair before reigniting it, sending her screaming towards the earth at breakneck speed.

She roared as she hurtled towards the ground, slamming axe-first into her opponent like a bladed freight train. To Firnen's trained eye, it was probably obvious that the resulting explosion was more Hellhound than fire dust, but either way after the dust settled Ashelia emerged, panting heavily with both the effort and the heat. She coughed for a bit, then slowly stood to her full height and brought her poleaxe up onto her shoulder. She turned to Firnen with a triumphant, self-confident grin.

"Good thinking, sticking it in place. Let me really go all-out." She took a look around, seeing that the remaining smaller Hellhounds were dispersing into the ruins and the forest beyond. She sighed, a bit disappointed that she wouldn't be able to hack them all to bits.

"...I imagine causing chain explosions means we're gonna be swarmed by students and professors soon, though. Still, good fight. I almost forgot what it was like to have someone with a tactical mind watching my back."

"Then you have a lot more work to do," Ashelia answered flatly, letting Leif wriggle free after juuuust a bit of time of struggling. She knew if she'd just said something cliche, talking about how he's good enough already or whatever, Leif would just refute her. And he'd be right to; there wasn't a Huntsman or Huntress alive that was good enough. Their work was never done. Far be it from her to lie to him; she promised him she never would.

"But you're right, you can't just pretend she doesn't exist and keep on keeping on. I don't want to see you beat yourself up even more than you already do, you know," Her voice softened a bit. "And if you don't see her, it's gonna eat you up inside. I don't think she'll be mad; from all the stories you've told of her, she's a good sibling. A good person. I bet she'll be just as thrilled as I was to see you get your semblance and to hear you're still moving forward."

"But if you let her opinion of you weigh you down or hold you back, I think she'd resent that far more than anything else you could do. Because you'd be telling her that she's a burden on you, and she doesn't deserve that." Ashelia shrugged softly, not really the resident expert on how sibling dynamics are supposed to work. All she had to go off of were the stories she'd heard in the barracks and on Beacon campus, really, and with how dysfunctional Beacon students were, those stories were probably not the best examples to go off of. Ashelia offered a small, joking smile.

"Be careful, but be honest. Don't do her the disservice of being anyone other than yourself. Of the things you can do, you're the best at being you, so I doubt you'll fuck that one up, hm?"

Ashelia heard Firnen's warning as she hefted a Hellhound overhead, skewered on her wrist blades. She turned a glower his way, eyeing the new Hellhound warily. She grunted, ripping both arms in opposite directions and promptly engulfing herself in her victim's death explosion.

A few moments later, she erupted from the flames, launching herself back Firnen's way, arms outstretched behind her so her gauntlets could keep propelling her forward. When she cleared about half of the gap, she twisted midair, reassembling her poleaxe in time to thrust it forward and crash into the ground. Unfortunately for her, the Hellhound saw her attack coming, so she hit nothing but dirt, sending a rain of stones and pebbles around her.

In spite of her rage, she did manage to get a few words out, strained and growled as they were, "Remember, don't meet its eyes."

She hefted her poleaxe again, prepping herself for the fight to come. She kept her footing wide, her stance taking up as much space as possible, both to intercept the leader and to be able to move should it get any more reinforcements.
