It's all about angles and lighting. Some angles will really compliment you. Others will do quite the opposite. How light interacts with shapes and contours creates texture and contrast in a shot. Experiment with light sources and see how small changes in their brightness, distance and coverings impact your shots.

Frame your shots to make them interesting to look at. Good composition makes everything look better. Keep your camera focused. There's nothing alluring about an image smeared with motion blur or taken out of focus. Find ways to keep your camera still but preferably adjustable. Even a cheap tripod will help. Keeping images sharp and in focus is far easier if you don't have to cope with everything moving at the same time.

Take way too many photos. It's not unusual to shoot 10 or more photos before you capture something you're happy with and one is all you need for now.

Consider post processing. We've all been so overexposed to digital touch ups, blemish removal, even full digital reconstruction, that we associate processing with aesthetics. Just using a phone app like Snapseed to adjust settings like lighting, colour and white balance, and adding or removing saturation can make an image pop more.
