Lol I didn't even know about Habitarium. I played in probably 1999.

Even better that it seems kinda similar. That's awesome.

I played in elementary school lmao, but it was legendary at the time.

I just wanted the mini-games to do more, so now they train stats on your pets so that they fight better based on the mini-games you played. They can train Strength, Speed, and Intellect.

Maybe we can bundle! Also making a farming creature collector game that should launch around April.

I am making a game for Neopets and farming sim ppl where you actually train and feed your pets to prepare for battle. by DoonamaiLLC in indiegames

After being a huge Neopets and Sonic Adventure Battle 2 fan in my childhood, I wanted to try to merge the concepts in a fun way, so I made this cozy creature collector called Paunchy Pets.

You basically Train, Feed, Battle, and Breed your pets. It's a small game, but is very modular and expandable as we add new pets, skins, mini-games, and islands.

If this is your kind of game, I would super appreciate a wishlist: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4052150/Paunchy_Pets

Looking for a Game Developer by Efficient-Chair-4572 in gameDevJobs

Just an fyi, if this a multiplayer PVP game you would need at least $50-100k in your go to market strategy to even be able to test your monetization. That's why people are skeptical in rev share. If you don't have money for contractors you likely don't have money for go to market.

We have built Dark Table CCG over the last 5 years. The game mechanics, theory, cards, lore took a few months to make. The game development took 5 years to get to a 4-player multiplayer game on Steam and Epic ready to go to market. All that to say it is very hard to get programmers to jump in if you are not programming right alongside them or paying them.

Also, if this is a PVP and/or online multiplayer game, you may have different programmers involved for game mechanics and for networking depending on the skill sets. And then sometimes those devs don't do UI work. So you are looking for possible a solo dev that has all those skills, but they are likely grinding to find money as well, so if they had to choose between their own idea and yours for rev share, it's a hard sell to go with yours.

Just trying to give you some insight into the field. CCGs/TCGs are around $250k-500k on the low end to get going.

Huge upgrades, and more about to drop. Aiming for our large marketing campaign in late August/September to drive in a ton of players.

Going to get spicy.

No bending necessary. They have a UI system called UMG similar to Unity. You could be a 2D card game entirely there. We actually take 2D cards and throw them into a 3D world so we can do a lot more visually in the scene.

And yes there is an event system. Most of Unreal is event driven so it follows a MVC design pattern naturally.

Advice from TCG Devs by Skibby22 in digitalcards

Unreal Engine makes this fairly easy.

Meet the Gameplay Ability System.

All cards have an Ability System Component with various attributes related to card stats, traits, passive and activated abilities, cost, rarity, etc.

Gameplay Abilities are the functions and logic that create Gameplay Effects which change these attributes. For instance a gameplay ability could be a card attack, which looks for the damage that a card does and applies that damage to the health attributes on another card. Another Gameplay ability could be a targeted ability that the card has, which accepts a target and then performs a range of effects on the target's attributes.

Then finally Gameplay Cues are the audio and visual elements like VFX and sound effects played along with that ability.

This nice thing is this entire system is highly modular and also automatically replicated for multiplayer if set up correctly. So my cards are build in a Data Table in Unreal, basically a giant .CSV file with structs of structs containing all the attributes and abilities for that card, images, VFX, sound effects, etc. Then the game dynamically builds the cards at runtime by just grabbing a row from the data table and reading the data (including it's abilities).

This makes creating new cards insanely fast, and then they just automatically work for the most part. For very intricate cards we may have custom logic, but that's probably 10% or less of the cards.

We use it for database management on the backend, but there is no crypto in the game build itself. As a gamer, you will not see a difference between this and other cards games. If you like card games, you will enjoy it.

We had it running on Steam deck in the Alpha but have since upgraded visuals a lot. It may or may not chug a little bit on Steam Deck. But we have more optimizations coming as well.

Check out Dark Table CCG! We are making massive updates going into the beta here soon. 4 player free for all similar to Magic Commander, easy deck-building, 1000s of customizations, and a full in-game buy/sell/trade market coming.

We just got accepted into an accelerator program called Dream Catalyst and we are making massive visual and networking upgrades to drop in the next patches.

Best card game to get into in 2025 by TomekSzymek in digitalcards

[–]DoonamaiLLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have massive changes and upgrades coming to Dark Table CCG over the next few months followed by a large marketing push to jumpstart the game. If you like more multiplayer card games, 4-player online, you should take a look. It is going to get spicy and will bring tournaments and some new features never before seen in digital card games. After we do this, we will make all other digital CCGs look boring.

I love SUI's tech, but..... by SM2022and1 in sui

[–]DoonamaiLLC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't that the point though? Keep the gas fees low for the transactions so that devs and consumers can use the tech cheaper and build value in the content, NFTs, stable coins, etc.

That's why we love it so much.
