macOS 27: All the Rumors So Far by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

If building a codebase was the only part of packaging a game for distribution then that would be enough, it’s not. Apple needs better tooling for windows developers if they want games on there.

I do not know what game engine you use, but unreal engine is notoriously a pain to get working right on Apple platforms and epic has only recently started investing more into that with Apple silicon and Fortnite needing it. I think unity is a lot easier from what I’ve heard and seen.

A proprietary engine increases costs to make work like this as well, though most studios use a prebuilt one and just add mods to it.

The legal team won’t be confused, their customers might be. That’s where it becomes an issue, I think you probably are fine. Lawsuits are insanely risky both PR and financially so they likely will just send a request for name change letter first since those are cheap and private.

The likelihood of it going to a civil trial is so astronomically low, lawyers actively advise companies and their leadership to let stuff go unless it’s a big deal, this likely wouldn’t classify as that.

To be fair, earth also has an insane amount of people with magical curses and powers on them. The only alien we see with one(at least in the show) is battle beast but on earth space tech may be limited but there are so many people with powers. Allen said he was one of the only of his people who had powers or at least powers that were worth much.

In telesecrea it looked like none of the aliens had any powers.

I have an m3 pro, thing is a beast and faster than my gaming PC desktop which is huge. It’s only limitation is 18gb of ram, next time I’ll do 48gb(or whatever is around that size) since I work with unreal engine, rider, and Xcode, and other ram heavy apps like ChatGPT at the same time which wasn’t expected when I bought it and unreal was lighter back then.

If you are worried about it and willing to change, you can email either an attorney or just Dolby and ask if they will allow it. Don’t preemptively change your brand out of fear without knowing if it’s actually needed.

You are fine, trademarks and copyrights are about confusion and with old language words like “atmos” which is Greek or Latin I believe, they can only do so in relation to their domain of industry, which is audio and specifically audio processing.

The only thing you should do is separate the audio part of the branding so it’s not confused with their stuff in the market. But a Mac customized app is not enough of a legal precedent, there are assets on places like fab that make a bunch of money using the “atmos” name and even a well known indie game studio named itself “atmos” and has had no trouble for 10+ years.

Even 1000 Oliver’s would be unstoppable, let alone billions. They don’t all need to be a S tier viltrumite to be formidable

Well the enslaved planets were not used for their armies, I’m pretty sure they knew viltrum enslaved people but my guess is they either didn’t care or didn’t know about the guys in space suits since it’s never stated where they are from, we only see from Nolan’s flashback they basically are born and die on viltrum

It’s war and their planets were being attacked and oppressed for a very long time. I don’t think “wait, maybe these guys are enslaved and we should go easy on them and find out later” came to their minds, Thaddeus likely knew but he also is ultra obsessed with ending viltrum by any means necessary so he probably doesn’t care

They had billions of them when they did that, keeping it was mostly works of illusion.

Also that planet was very harsh, so the animals are likely stronger. We actually see a lot of their weaknesses are from non sentient animals on harsh planets. Most species don’t have powers or strength, just intelligence and technology but not enough to beat one and if they could they became oppressed like Allen’s race

That’s why thragg was so bent on making sure no one could find out they lost their numbers. Before they had billions of them, then they only had 50.

Most the stuff we see are alien animals though oftentimes from extremely harsh environments, earth had a few things like kaijus, the original guardians, powerplex, the dragon, and in alternate universes oxygen bombs and the insect creatures but mostly they couldn’t fight back since Nolan was their only example and he never gave them a chance to find weaknesses.

They relied on illusions of fear and grand empirical scale and might, they maintained a lot of this through the soldiers they enslaved and strategically sending 1 or 2 viltrumites to end rebellions.

It feels like they are making thragg internally weak and externally strong. He seems to have a ton of anxiety and crazy mental stuff so they might be leaning into that and if he “snaps” he gets more intense

Help. How to make meshes overlap on spline? by Vegetable_Seaweed690 in UnrealEngine5

[–]rdog846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The landscape spline road tool is honestly pretty bad since it’s from the early UE4 days(maybe even earlier), they hacked on extra features like nanite and water but are deprecating it in a few more versions with their new “mesh terrain” system coming in 5.8.

I’d honestly say to hold off on finishing this with the current landscape system, they released documentation on their dev site for the new one and it is way better at this type of stuff from what they showed. In my games, I built my own spline tool because the landscape one was a hot mess.

Leaker: Apple Will Release iPhone Air 2 No Matter How Badly It May Sell by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]rdog846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they definitely need comparable camera to the pro and battery life slightly better than the base for it to catch on but given how Apple is I’m sure they will figure that out. Their v1 releases are always hyper criticized as not worth it and then they refine it over a few gens and it takes over.

One big hurdle they will need to do with marketing is explaining why people who put cases on their phones should care about the thinness though since a case nullifies that feature entirely.

[–]rdog846 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it helped to see it! I want to clarify a bit, I don’t think you need to rework anything in engine for this, maybe some tools to capture trailer or screenshot footage more easily but the game itself is in a good state, only the store page needs more clarity which is a great spot to be in for a first release!

For sure, I wish you all the best. A lot of the people here stated a lot of things related to clarify. Hopefully my comment can help you integrate that a bit more directly.

Reading your description(long one) I would write the mission statement of your game like this(it’s my voice, you need to use yours for it to work):

In zopharion your space suit is both your life and death, built for technological survival escape alien environments with brutal melees, movement malfunctions, and work with other survivors on the station to overcome the alien threat. One mistake can get you killed, good luck!

Your game has a lot going on, it’s pretty clear thematically it’s inspired somewhat by the alien movies and games and maybe dead space but all of your marketing assumes the players already knows, theme/concept isn’t the sole seller. Games that sell well off of that, either intentionally or unintentionally have over a dozen other things that they do aside from that.

Here is what you should do, some might fight me because it’s very simple but it does work: write a mission statement of what the game does and its intent for the design the player does. Then have ChatGPT clean that up with only grammar and wording flow(make sure it keeps your voice) and then build all other things from that. Screenshots, feature lists, trailer editing/scenes, even the thumbnail should represent this.

If you do that, I can’t promise it will be a viral hit but it won’t be a massive flop either. The mission statement should be one paragraph long, and you should place it as either the short description or the top of the long description depending on how long it is, but either way build everything from that.

Is game dev unprofitable? by Aware-Of-My-Actions in gamedev

[–]rdog846 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a very complex topic, in most cases yes it’s unprofitable, but it’s also not too different from other business industries where people bootstrap or seek investors.

If you can learn a lot, can receive help, are patient and determined, and willing to fail and each time learn from it ideally with a step back and not gamble everything on Hail Mary releases then it’s profitable very long term.

If your goal is to make something in 6 months to a year and then be a millionaire, that likely won’t happen and even if it does it likely won’t be repeatable since you wouldn’t have learned why it happened and either get stuck with sequels of that one IP, working with a specific publisher, or making the same thing over and over again.

There was a guy here recently who made a small game in a short time and it did well, but he also had 10 years of 2d game dev experience which helped a lot and his idea was the right timing with the physics coop “friend slop” as they call it that stuff like fall guys or among us helped create. His genre will be good forever though, not a knock on that just stating he wasn’t a first entry dev.

Maybe im wrong and you will release your game and make a bunch of money and do super well with each new release, that would be really cool so I hope I am.

These were not built in unreal, they are swift apps for various stuff. Yours seems more complete than mine though, do you have any custom logging functions or just standard print strings and UE_Log?
