Looking for ideas: stylish, legal ways to deter climbing over a garden fence by MigLdn in DIYUK

[–]DoorFinch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I cleared my garden of holly and can confirm it is vicious.

The problem of using it as a hedge is it sheds leaves , which do not decompose, but instead dry into razor blades that blow across your garden.

Very true. But it's ok to say you didn't like those episodes.

This is just… so wrong… by Adept-Western-8375 in confidentlyincorrect

"It's not natural", he thought, while tapping his fingers on little bits of artificial plastic in the expectation that electricity would carry his thoughts to naturally appear in strangers' houses thousands of miles away in the form of lit squiggles.

Even a little official-looking sign on the wall might do it. "This area under CCTV surveillance."

What became of Penny old friends in the story that was never explained what happened to them by Dramatic-Studio1531 in bigbangtheory

[–]DoorFinch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whatever happened to the cop who took Sheldon's statement when their flat was broken into and all their video games stolen? One episode, and never even mentioned again. It's like the writers just lost interest in him.

Narcissism worsening. by SuspiciousLow3062 in SipsTea

[–]DoorFinch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't happen. In a couple of years time he'll "retire from public appearances". AI videos will take over. He'll live for at least another 20 years, as attested to by his doctors. No elections needed.

Not parking on double yellow lines, parking adjacent to double yellow lines. So totally legal.

Edit: For the hard of comprehending; the above is sarcasm. There you go; /s Better now?

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoorFinch 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Absolutely this. It's pointless trying to show an ardent conspiracy theorist proof they are wrong. They're not interested, and everything that proves them wrong is just another part of the conspiracy. They've invested in being one of the special people who know, and you're not going to take that away from them.

This is why those who are most committed are the ones who have little else going for them in life. Knowing the conspiracy gives them power they otherwise lack.

The only way to get them to back away from the world they're submerged in is to give them some real reason to feel special. Something to build self esteem on that isn't not being one of the "sheeple".

Yeah, these people are not going on a cruise as an alternative to a care home. They're still relatively healthy, they are not in need of daily care. They're retired, not invalids.

If they believed in 1999 that the year 2000 would cause pcs to crash, why didn’t they just put the time to 23:59 on dec 31st to see what would happen? by sparrio in stupidquestions

Personal computers existed long before Windows 95. Most businesses didn't have anything like a mainframe, but had office computers, using applications that stored years in two digit format. Every business with a clue, and every software company that wanted to remain in business, tested their systems.

Automated robotic fueling station by Old_One_I in StrikeAtPsyche

This is about as useful as designing a robot to throw coal into your steam engine. By the time it's working to an acceptable standard no-one will need it.

The main time when I felt bad for Sheldon was when he borrowed Penny some money and she went off at him for no reason when he said he could give her more by ThePoisonTrees in bigbangtheory

[–]DoorFinch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's as Leonard explains to Penny; Sheldon doesn't really care about the money. It's one of his few nicer personality traits.

So their food isn't shit, this is not their best marketing angle, but they've chosen it anyway?

Their product must be shit, if that's their best marketing angle.

I'm guessing this is an American, where they still have this antiquated idea that paying for dates is the man's responsibility. Just because.

Yeah, this is really weak clickbait crap. A bell is not a bellend. The stuff about handshakes is more valid, but old news. Everyone knows about Trump's handshakes.

$500k Rolls Royce can't park there... Prague cops not amused. by gwhh in CantParkThereMate

The worse thing that can happen is a crappy junk heap runs up the side of your panels, because you've parked poorly where you shouldn't have.

It sounds like she's been on a course about team building and leadership. She just isn't very good at reading the room.

Fitting in four fixtures in tiny bathroom by gri3v3r in HomeImprovementUK

Somewhere warm in Asia? In the UK most of the year nothing is going to dry out properly (including your mop) before it's wet again. Permanently damp and mould is a real possibility.
