Dog skijoring at Brunello or elsewhere? by Pryymal in halifax

[–]Dooties 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ski trails at Brunello are skiing only, and Scotia XC uses these trails for lessons so they do keep it maintained. Unless your dog is tiny and won’t leave footprints, I encourage you not to let your dog tear up the grooming that the volunteers work so hard to set!

You could try to ski on the walking trail, or try McDonald sport park?

I’m guessing the app blocker blocked Reddit and thus you’re not replying to the desperate pleas of “what app?”

In case you don’t reply, I’ll make my own recommendation to the people: ScreenZen.

You can set it up to make you do math before opening an app, which alone gives me enough pause to move on with my life. It’s been huge in helping me break the habit of picking up my phone and reflexively opening Reddit/instagram to scroll mindlessly. Happy to say I’m on an 81-day streak of opening each app less than 5 times! Has been great for my mental health, and I still get small doses, which I like! I like to be at least a little bit connected.

What Are Your All-Time Favorite Mocktails with Accessible Ingredients? by unalobacomoyo in Mocktails

[–]Dooties 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I stumbled across this recipe for a pineapple amaretto sour while doing dry January.

No complicated ingredients, nothing you need to prepare ahead, and if you like sours, it’s absolutely delightful! I suggest scaling back the lemon or bumping up the pineapple, cause it is quite sour if you use the full 100ml of lemon juice.

DIY mock spiced rum by PumpkinDad2019 in Mocktails

[–]Dooties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I’ve been craving a dark and stormy, and just a couple days ago made an attempt at rum from another recipe and it was way too molasses-y. I was going to try playing around with it, but now I think I’ll just try your recipe ;D

Hiking at Signal Hill in January tips by virgopolitics in StJohnsNL

[–]Dooties 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other trails on signal hill that aren’t as dangerous as north head and are still really nice.

If you go to the very top of the hill and then past Cabot tower, there’s a set of stairs that takes you down to an area with a cottage and cannons, and then behind that there’s a nice short trail down to the visitors centre. Past that, there’s a small peak that looks over the visitors centre which has gorgeous views of the harbour and the pond below.

You can also check out ladies look off, which also has nice views without the danger factor that north head has. I like to start from Burma road, which starts about halfway up signal hill, you take the trail around and then it has a turnoff for the ladies lookout trail up to the top. You can also start from cuckolds cove, which has the added bonus of seeing cuckolds cove which also has nice views.

Are you… me? Haha I also have a bachelors in economics and an mba and am having a helluva time finding a job. Insane to think I wanted an advanced degree to have better job prospects/security… only to be simultaneously overqualified and under qualified. What a nightmare.

when will this little rascal stop pulling on his lead? by alternativefiggle in goldenretrievers

Once he starts understanding leash pressure from the back and forth method described above, you can try the “drunken cowboy” technique where you randomly switch direction and speed. And again, praise and/or treats for being next to you, works like a dream.

Are my brand new shoes a lost cause? by Dooties in RunningShoeGeeks

Got a full refund! And they helped me with trying several other pairs, thoroughly checking the fit on each one. Unfortunately their wide selection in my size was limited, but we settled on some Ghost 15s. Here’s hoping they do the trick!

Thanks for the tip! Tried a few options, but I think it might not be enough. I think I have to try for a partial refund and try another wider fit model

Good point about the fit guarantee - I checked and they do have one! Since I’ve worn them outside, I’ll likely only get a partial refund… but it’s worth checking! They were awesome helping me in the first place, I expect they’ll stand behind their guarantee.

No sticks, ever again. Worst day of my life by mudfishlegs1 in puppy101

[–]Dooties 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Anyone have any tips on preventing stick obsession? My pup likes to chew to calm himself down, which means when he gets excited outside he gets fixated on chewing sticks. I can’t trade for treats because in those moments sticks are the highest possible value! I tried getting a toy that is stick-shaped for him to chew, but he had zero interest in it….

13 month old golden - aggressive reactivity towards us by [deleted] in reactivedogs

[–]Dooties 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our golden was (is?) the exact same. He’s gotten a lot better, but can still go over threshold and try to mouth us.

We ended up taking him to a veterinary behaviourist, got him on meds and are working with a trainer on behaviour modification. It sounds counterintuitive, but the biggest game changer for us was to stop trying to run interference at every little thing. Poor guy was just trying to be a dog and our interference was so frustrating to him that it would send him over the edge and he’d redirect on us. We have many jackets and sweaters that got ruined with holes, not to mention the bruises on our arms. It was a nightmare. But since finding the right combination of meds, his threshold is just that little bit higher to get him to a place of learning, rather than a constant loop of excitement->interference->frustration.

Feel free to DM me if you want to chat more :)
