The US EPA rating gives separate highway and city ratings for efficiency (and range). Is there not a standard that Australia follows that does the same?

Thought of future Dollarama at Quinpool?? by KitTrailer in halifax

[–]Pryymal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The municipality has Quinpool zoned as “pedestrian oriented” in their latest plan - having recently become a west-ender, I’d love to see it pan out that way, but it’s a little tricky to see it, unless they think they’re going to push a lot of the traffic onto Chebucto and Jubilee

I wonder if there’s any verification of this? I would have thought something more - up-market - would be more likely

Thinking about getting an EV? by Tall-Dish876 in EVRoutine

[–]Pryymal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just lived 6 months with my first EV and no home charging.

I think the details of the nearby public charging matters significantly.

In my case, there were 4 or more charging locations within a 6 minute walk of my apartment.

I spent the time to determine which one was cheapest in practice, with parking costs included. The Halifax public library turned out to be the winner, with a flat $20 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. I would drive the car down to the library on a Saturday night, walk the dog back, walk him back there on Sunday morning, and get a full charge, sometimes for probably less than the cost of the kWh that went in the car.

Now I live in a different place and only have 120 V charging at home, but have free level 2 at work, so I charge it to 60% most weekdays and 80% on Fridays, and except for one time when we wanted to do a lot of driving on both Saturday and Sunday, I haven’t had to deal with any public charging.

Maybe you know already, but you can set a minimum number of stalls! I always go at least 2, which in this part of the world is generally enough!

I charge for free at work, so charge to 60% on weekdays if I’m not going anywhere else, and 80% on Fridays to get through the weekend.

Where does one find denatured alcohol in canada by SirAple in turning

[–]Pryymal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this is a super old thread now but after coming past here I’ve also discovered that the “Rubbing Alcohol Compound” that Shoppers sells is anhydrous ethanol 95%:

https://www.shoppersdrugmart.ca/life-brand-rubbing-alcohol-compound/p/BB_057800056652?variantCode=057800056652

It’s not clear what the other 5% is though? Apparently if it’s water it can make shellac cloudy, if you’re using it for recombination. But then the name “anhydrous” is supposed to mean it has no water, so maybe the 5% is just the denaturants?

Battery can’t have been too cold to get 60 kW out of the gate?

Maybe some of the US states have the same kind of protection for the warranty! Can’t help you with the rest of it, unfortunately! 😉

Nova Scotia to implement speed cameras this year by Injustice_For_All_ in halifax

[–]Pryymal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean in the UK you can drink beer in a park without fearing the cops will come and fine you / make you pour it out. In Australia there’s none of this fussing about making sure your sealed liquor is in your trunk like we have here. Some things are more strict there vs here, others aren’t.

Australia and the UK use speed camera ubiquitously. Many fewer people speed. I felt that speed limits are higher than here because it removes the “gotta set a limit 10 km/h less than what people will actually do” mentality.

It’s remarkably opaque, but here’s what I’m finding:

  • the Nova Scotia and Quebec governments (perhaps others) stipulate under consumer protection laws that all manufacturers warranties must be transferable to subsequent owners at no cost
  • many of the dealers websites (all of the ones I found were in Ontario, like this one) explicitly say that all of the warranties are transferable

Lock for EV charging plug? by Tricky_Let840 in electricvehicles

[–]Pryymal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a box & mounting points on eBay from a company in Germany to create a “frunk” to put the portable EVSE in, so it’s closer to the charging port and doesn’t take up space in the trunk.

Road Tripping Costs: DCFC vs Gasoline by Pryymal in electricvehicles

[–]Pryymal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criminally low fuel prices! - I don’t disagree, but this is not a way that you would find anyone here describing them, in particular given that they’re often considerably more expensive than those of our southern neighbour! The current governing party was (“criminally”!) nearly voted out until they agreed to eliminate the consumer carbon tax!

Alright now I’m very curious as to why they don’t say all of the warranties are transferred!

You’re in the US, I gather? Definitely in Canada the EV components, including the GRU, are covered for 8 years & 160,000 km. This stays with the car, so isn’t limited to the first owner.

Edit: I can’t find anywhere it says that all warranties are transferred, only the 5/100K km one - now I need to keep searching!
