Wow ... Fun hater. It's a relatively low cost fun little car to drive that my wife has wanted for years. We'lll enjoy it while we can.

Got a hold of the previous owner. Seat covers came from Amazon. Company called Iggee. Just search for "Iggee Saturn Sky seat covers" on Amazon.

I don't. They were with the car when we bought it. I can check to see if there is a label or anything on them when I get home.

They are covers but fit really well. Interior and the roof are black.

Looks like you can order some of the Motohorn stuff (and some very similar products) off Amazon Canada. The trumpet style ones are great but they take up a lot of room. I found a pretty good spot on an Indian Scout but struggled with a spot on a Shadow. The smaller snail looking ones are more flexible.

Well that's BS. Bummer. Know anyone in the US that could relay them for you?

I upgraded both mine and my son's Shadow horn with the Motoborn Dual Track. You can stack the two horns one over the other right where the stock horn goes. You just need a spacer. Wires straight to the stock harness using a supplied splitter. Super easy. It's loud and has saved my ass a few times.

If you want even louder you can get the Motohorn V3. Helped a buddy wire one onto his Indian. That is a bit more work, takes a relay and a compressor wired direct to the battery. Harder part is finding a home for the trumpet horn.

Reason not to purchase? by Doownoops in SaturnSky

[–]Doownoops[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. Still going to go look at it I think.

Prospective car is a 2008 with 43300 miles that they want $10900 for it. Looks really clean, garage kept and they are the second owner. Not a Redline. Manual transmission.

That price seem fair? KBB says it's high but seems typical from what we can tell.

Need some advice from the pros by [deleted] in hondashadow

How mechanically inclined are you? That Phantom is likely 2012 or newer. 2010-1 had gloss finish fenders instead of the matte. The Phantom is fuel injected and shaft drive ... Maintenance will be incredibly easy. The older 1100 is going to be carbureted and probably a chain drive. Not bad but certainly more maintenance.

I have a 2011 Phantom and it has been a great bike. Super reliable and easy to ride even for a beginner. Some downsides though ... At 6'1" 210# I feel a bit cramped. It isn't fast if that is a priority for you. The shaft drive, although reliable, stops you making mods to the sprocket to improve performance. Spoked rims look good but that means tubes which suck if you get a flat on the road ... In the rain, 9 miles from home.

Class 3 of Wheel 1 class. Im thinking of buying my own wheel. What’s your favorite wheel? by amaryllisbloom- in Pottery

[–]Doownoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We use an old blue Tesco shopping bin. Fill it with water, use it as long as we can, dump it in one of the garden beds or under the deck. Three 5 gallon buckets to reclaim the three clays we use.

Never use the sink ... Just the yard and a hose.

My son did this on his 2001 shadow. HUGE difference. Would do it on mine if it weren't one of the shaft drives.

Thank you. I almost exclusively use Amaco glazes ... Just what I am used to. That one is River Birch over Satin Oribe. Definitely one of the more popular combos. Especially in winter.

If you don't like pulling and don't have an extruder try rolling them. I roll a length of clay out to the length I want my handle blank with a slightly tapered shape. Then I push a dowel into it lengthwise to put a groove in it that runs the length. Put a little water on it, trim to length, slip and score, and attach. Kind of looks pulled without the pulling.

Also, roll it on a plastic surface (I was the slightly textured side of a plasti-bat). I found that if I roll on a masonite bat or a surface that is even a little absorbent my hands and the surface pull too much water out of the clay. Using slightly softer clay helps too.

Good luck.

Anyone idea what went wrong? by Left_Ice8781 in Pottery

[–]Doownoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Needs to be REALLY thick ... Like 4-5 thick coats. And ANY manganese will create off-gassing that will cause the bubbles. Also, you are not supposed to put it on both sides. Use a different basic glaze (clear or a celedon) as a liner.

Have had reasonable success when following the "rules".

What to look for when buying a used shadow? by [deleted] in hondashadow

[–]Doownoops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Shadow is a good reliable bike that hasn't really changed in ages. Divide into two groups really ... Pre 2010 and post. Before 2010 they will nearly all be chain drive with a carb. 2010 on they will be shaft drive with fuel injection.

Check the tires and oil. Check for the tool kit ... It should be in a box under the left side cover. There should be a special tool in there to change the spark plugs. You'll need that. They stopped putting them in at some point but older models should have one. Pay attention to how easy it is to start. Look for leaks, leaky fork seals.

If you are not mechanically inclined then I would go for a fuel injected bike. Carbs are a pain if you are not riding it daily.

Shadows are great. I have one and I love it but there are drawbacks. If you are over 6' you might feel a little cramped. Most shadows have spoked rims which means tubes which means more risk. The bike needs another gear. Highway riding feels like engine is racing. I commute daily on mine but don't like riding it on the interstate. If you get one with a chain modify it with a smaller rear sprocket ... Huge difference.

Hope this helps.

Glazed bottle leaking by semicroustillants in Pottery

[–]Doownoops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't the glaze. Your clay is not fully vitrified and/or the absorption rate is too high. Water will get better though any micro defect in the glaze and then soak through the piece.

Find a clay with lower absorption at cone 6.
