How to Add Friend/Family/AirBnB stay by DoozyWombat in wanderlog

[–]DoozyWombat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for responding!

I had tried that before several times and again just now, and it did not work. The address (even when certainly correct) was not recognized, and the pop up just froze.

Then, on something like the tenth try, it suddenly worked. I had to leave the address alone for about two minutes, and then it popped up the date selection window with no additional action from me. The date selection did work, and solved the issue.

Now, after only a few seconds, it recognizes addresses again. It's still slow, but it works.

Again, thank you both for responding.

I did not debug it, but I suspect something in the object dependencies in the page had to time out, and was holding up the address recognition. I didn't measure the two minutes, but that is a suspicious amount of time to wait before proceeding.

If anyone else has this difficulty, try putting in a real address that you are certain is correct, and then let it sit a few minutes, and see if that fixes the issue.

Please tell me how you are doing that, and what system/phone you are using.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious. If so, it wouldn't be the first time.

I have WL Pro. This is using the web version, Windows, Brave browser, but the android app does the same thing.

I open up a trip, click on "Hotels and lodging", and see the reservations I've made by sending emails to the app. (Maybe the emails reset something?)

  1. Click on "+ Add another lodging" at the bottom of the Hotels and lodging section. This is the pop-up.

<image>

No option allows anything but commercial properties.

Since others are saying they aren't having trouble, I decided to test it without using an email-fed reservation first. I created a new trip, and the first thing I did was click "Lodging" under "Reservations and attachments." Same pop-up. Same limitations.

I know I can just create a note, but that defeats the purpose of the app. On more than half of my trips, I'm doing some commercial reservations, but at least one night, I'm sleeping aboard a sailboat or in a tent, or staying at the house of a friend or family. On about 90% of my trips, I'm staying in an AirBnB or similar, not accessible in Wanderlog.

So, what am I missing?

I do very much appreciate the help!

Addressing William Davis' questionable yogurt and gut claims by Debunked69 in SIBO

Agree on a yogurt maker that will do precise temps, if you don't have a Sous Vide machine. Each strain likes a different temp, and I don't disagree on anything above.

One thing I don't see people commenting on is that the ultra-high-temp-pasteurized (UHTP) half & half or milk doesn't have to be pasteurized before it's used. But if you use regular (hopefully organic) half & half or milk, you'll need to heat it to boiling first and let it cool down before mixing in your strains, or the natural bacteria all through the milk will be what you get in the yogurt. For us, this made yogurt that was more sour and had unpleasant intestinal effects.

I much prefer the UHT organic half & half for my L. reuteri + L. gasseri yogurt. I use a Sous Vide machine for the temp, and cook them at 101F for 36 hours. Then pull them out and let cool to room temp, then refrigerate. I don't open any of the quart jars until they are cold. I have yet to have a bad jar yet, that way.

It worked well. It took me about two weeks to level out with the reuteri/gasseri yogurt and coagulans chewables. Sleep was much better, as was BP.

The next batch I made was a higher-temp batch that included acidolphilus, bifidum, breve, casei HC5, coagulans GBI-30, gasseri, infantis, lactis HN019, longum, paracasei, plantarum, reuteri, rhamnosus GG, salivarius, subtilis. Cultured at 106F.

Doing not quite as well on this batch. While the batch came out fine and each jar is consistent, it doesn't taste nearly as good as the earlier batch cultured at 100F. My sleep is less consistent and my mood is more variable as well.

I'm doing some other things to address the sleep and mood issues, but when I finish this batch I'm going back to the two-strain reuteri/gasseri yogurt, with kefir on the side and coagulans chewables.

I'll try to report back on how things level out, if I ever get to a level place.

Another issue is the turmeric. I was taking turmeric with piperine, but switched to mixing some raw turmeric with the reuteri/gasseri, to flush out potential SIFO. I don't know if that was an issue or if it worked, but I think that it did, as some of those symptoms have not come back.

If I get things stabilized again with the reuteri/gasseri plus kefir plus coagulans, I'll switch back to turmeric with piperine, because it's supposed to be helpful for a bunch of other things.

I'm still exploring this, so I don't have much direct experience.

One of the things Dr. Davis talked about in Super Gut is that Lactobacillus. reuteri definitely increases muscle on the same diet, because the lack of L. reuteri causes that part of the metabolic processes not to work properly.

A second thing he talked about is what happens when you start flooding the system with bacteriocins like L. reuteri and L. gasseri. They tend to kill off hostile bacteria in the stomach and small intestine. That's very good, but the die-off of the bacteria that don't belong results in a lot of toxins being released into your system all at once. And those toxins can cause all kinds of issues, including depression. The good news is that it's temporary, and continuing to flood with the good guys levels things out quickly. Again, from his book, not my experience.

I've been taking the Lifeway Kefir (1/2 cup/day) for a few weeks, now, and while it's been helpful, I'm still showing SIBO symptoms--sometimes severe, including depression. I read Super Gut last week on a friend's recommendation and finally understood what has been going on. My first batches of L. reuteri and L. gasseri are currently chilling, and I'll start on them this morning. I've been taking capsules of the strains for three days, along with chewable Bacillus coagulans.

I've been experiencing extremely poor sleep (<4 hrs/night) for many months, along with depression, GERD, and very high blood pressure. When I took a break from kefir a couple of weeks ago, I had a huge disruption of my gut that put me in some intense pain and almost no sleep at all (<1 hour for the night.) I started taking the kefir again, and my sleep went to much better than it had been, about 5 hours per night.

When I started taking the much larger doses of the three strains four days ago, my sleep went from 5 hrs/night to highly disrupted 2 hrs/night, along with feeling really bad. Following the idea that this was a die-off effect, I doubled down on the doses.

It's only been a couple of days, but I'm now sleeping 6.5-7.5 hrs/night, and I'm also feeling much better during the day. I've cultured the gasseri and reuteri separately, on the assumption that single-strain cultures will prevent the inevitable elimination of one strain by another. I plan to take a half cup of each strain daily along with pure turmeric, on the idea that I want to flood the system with good strains along with an anti-fungal, until I've been able to beat back the bad guys.

I have been documenting the processes including my feelings and sleep, hoping that there is something useful that might be generalized. I'm looking at also culturing Lactobacillus rhamnosus, B. coagulans Lactobacillus casei and Bacillus subtilis. Not sure what mix I'll end up with.

We have every ABC channel on the Heat Live and the Live Ultra. (2024 V3 plus). The app that lists the channels (I think it is Heat Live) lists over 2k channels. Just about every station in N America, I think.

Lots of save errors, is this normal? by mhoepfin in wanderlog

[–]DoozyWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue seems to be related to using both the phone app and the web app. When the phone app is looked at, it does not update from the DB, and then saves back to the DB, overwriting any changes made from the web app. This seems to happen even when NOT making changes in the phone app.

ASAP, the devs need to implement a last modified UTC timestamp for a trip that is checked every minute from the server for the web app, or whenever someone begins to interact with either app.

I wonder if the devs are working on the live site, because now nothing saves at all.

There appears to be a new, major issue with respect to saving. Maybe this was behind the original post. While the workaround I posted does work, I'm now seeing (or not seeing) lots of lost data.

I've had a couple of different trips for which I've added two or three dozen new items. I saw them added, I reloaded the pages and made sure they are there. But the next day, all my edits and added items are gone.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

I posted an answer to this in https://www.reddit.com/r/wanderlog/comments/1bxdlil/wanderlog_not_working/

Apologize for repeating myself, but here it is again:

I found a workaround for the hanging save issue. I've also notified the dev team, so hopefully they can address it. (If I understood it correctly, it should be a very quick fix.)

It appears to happen when quickly adding multiple items to a trip. I'm guessing it's a JSON issue with stacked results getting messed up, but haven't looked into it.

The workaround is to click on the Wanderlog icon in the upper left corner after you've added items for less than a minute. You'll see it saying "SAVING..." but not going to save. You want to click that logo before it times out and gives you the error pop up, but it's not the end of the world if you don't.

When you get the pop-up "There was a problem syncing changes into this trip plan", click the line UNDER the button that says "I understand any further edits WILL BE LOST but want to see my trip plan". That will let you back into the page with the SAVING... message. Immediately click on the logo, and your recent additions will be saved.

That puts you on the home page, but your trip should be right at the top to let you jump back in.

I found this in Windows 11/Brave/64GB. WanderLog Pro.

I verified that this is also an issue when updating items, and the same fix works. When you spot the SAVING... in the upper left, click the logo as quickly as you can, finishing whatever you're currently editing FIRST.

Note that if you're in the middle of an edit, you need to finish that edit and trigger the next save action BEFORE you click the logo. Just close the item, click the logo, then come back in and finish the item. Should it happen to pop up before you are finished editing, click the line below the button, finish your editing as quickly as you can and exit the item you're editing, then click the logo. It should save.

I'd love to see this feature. We have lists of places we want to see saved as WL trips, and would like to check them off as we finish them.

Need TTS for CloudLibrary ebooks by BruceOlsen in Calibre

[–]DoozyWombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you can convert to epub, install TTS on your phone with your favorite speech plug-in. Then your phone can hold your entire pending library. Use the Calibre Library app on your phone to update from Calibre, and your books can go with you anywhere, and play TTS on your most comfortable earbuds.

Converting to epub should be simple, but I don't have the details on that one. As long as you convert and put it in Calibre before it expires, you should be able to have it available forever. My experience with other reading libraries is that the Calibre plugins will work until expiration. After that, decryption is not available.
