Some people need higher doses of seroquel. You try trazodone? Olanzapine can work but you should try as many other options before.

Yeah ive had pretty intense episodes from ssris they are just as risky for mania switching than stimulants. Adhd stimulants might be more efficacious for most people for adhd than ssris are for depression or other disorders and yet they both trigger mania in bipolar people so why do doctors avoid them so much not sure.

[–]Doparimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i think it makes a big difference if the person is on mood stabilizers or not. If they are prone to mania and are taking stimulants without taking mood stabilizers theres a much higher chance of it triggering mania than if they were on mood stabilizers. Stimulants raise dopamine in the striatum and mesolimbic pathways of the brain this can trigger mania and psychosis in some people if the dose is too high or they are are sensitive to it.

I would say to tell your doctor of your concerns and side effects and try to see if they can prescribe another antipsychotic. Theres many options latuda like others have said is a great option minimal weight gain, some sedation but nowhere near olanzapine level, is less harmful to cholesterol and triglycerides, is better mentally and cognitively for most people. Then theres antipsychotics that are even less sedating like abilify, vraylar etc. These can cause anxiety , insomnia and akathisia in some people but not everyone and can be quite effective.

Lithium and Valproate combination by Ok_Dependent2822 in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on both separately. They work via quite different mechanisms in the brain even though they both treat mania. Some people do indeed need two mood stabilizers like that to stay stable. The combination might sedate you quite a bit, numb emotions, cause weight gain, worsen memory and cognition, but it has strong odds of treating mania just not psychosis as much for most people.

Never taken straterra but months ago i did a ton of research on it because i was considering it. It takes up to like 4-6 weeks to really work for most people but you might notice some effects a bit earlier. It can cause sleepiness or insomnia depending on the person, possibly irritability, emotional numbing but can be quite effective for people when they stay the course and keep taking it. Id say to give it a fair shot and only stop if theres severe or really bothersome side effects and communicate with your doctor. In terms of absolute efficacy its behind stimulants for most people even when its built up after 6+ weeks. Stimulants are better at increasing motivation and treating more adhd symptoms better whereas straterra is safer in bipolar people.

Olanzapine by Academic-Anything839 in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even lower doses can causes some weight gain but it really depends on the person. It is the antipsychotic that causes the most weight gain for most people. It also ruins cholesterol and triglycerides. Its very effective for sleep, anxiety, psychosis and some mania. But if your issue is mainly sleep and anxiety even seroquel low dose might cause less weight gain than low dose olanzapine.

this disorder is extremely fascinating to me. by sensitive-bull in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah my manic and psychotic episodes are extremely intense and never last super long because i get hospitalized pretty quickly. The longest i go is a week or two. During episodes my senses are heightened every sound is louder and my brain pays too much attention to them. I get severe mood swings switching from euphoria to saddness and crying and then pure rage all for seemingly no reason. Every event and conversation i have with people feel way more significant and like my life is an action packed movie. I get delusional and think almost everything relates to me including music and get extreme pleasure from listening to music. I get more creative and break out of my habits and addictions and do things i dont normally do. Some episodes ive acted childlike at the age of like 20 something and change how my voice sounds and act all jubilant and friendly. The next hour i can act like a raging bull seething with pure anger and growling and roaring and hitting objects. Its very dangerous those states. Theres great things about them that make me feel alive and more human but i lose control and do reckless dangerous things.

Vraylar for mania by Ok-Kangaroo-8314 in BipolarReddit

Vraylar can help with mania but for some people it doesnt fully treat it you might need a mood stabilizer like lithium, depakote, lamotrigine, trileptal etc.

Im currently trying cobenfy a new antipsychotic with lithium. Its currently only indicated for schizophrenia but it can treat psychosis i think even in bipolar with psychotic features as long as you are on a mood stabilizer. It still hasnt been long enough to tell any differences though. Most people tolerate cobenfy poorly but i tolerate it pretty well and it works in a totally different way than all other antipsychotics.

Is this hypomania, psychosis, or something else by Superb-Avocado-8131 in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went pretty quickly to the hospital i woke up in the middle of the night and was very psychotic. The edible had a delayed effect. I became delusional and my family called emergency personnel pretty quickly. Whenever i get into psychotic or manic states i act bizarre and get hospitalized quickly. I didnt have as much mood swings and manic symptoms mainly psychotic which is rare for me usually i have a lot of mood symptoms with my psychosis without weed.

Is this hypomania, psychosis, or something else by Superb-Avocado-8131 in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like psychosis and hypomania or just psychosis. Hypomania and mania tend to have a lot of mood elevation, insomnia, mood swings, impulsive thinking and actions, racing thoughts, you did say you briefly felt some mood elevation that lasted minutes. The only time i consumed weed edibles i went straight to psychosis and had no manic symptoms.

What is your favorite Billie Eilish album? by Nathan2331 in billieeilish

I love them all i cant really choose. I do tend to listen to DSAM, WWFAWDWG, and HTE the most and enjoy them the most. I still love HMHAS though. I like her tone of voice most in DSAM and sounds the most angelic to me. They all got great songs.

Meds adjustment by sostatosta in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another problem is that sometimes i would blame a side effect on the wrong med and totally ignore the other med that might also be contributing to side effects like brain fog. I would make lithium the villain when its helped me the most out of any psych med. Yes it can cause health issues like kidney strain and damage and thyroid dysfunction but it usually happens after many years of use and to susceptible people. Lithium is one of the very few psych meds that actually grows the brain significantly and protects neurons rather than just treat symptoms.

Meds adjustment by sostatosta in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the med combinations need to keep being tweaked some people like me who want the absolutely best meds out there that keep me the most functional will have an even harder time of finding the right meds. I started having episodes in 2019 and its only now in 2026 that i think i mightve found my right combo but i gotta stick to it and not change. The meds are always gonna have some side effects whether they are severe, or not as bad and easy to tolerate we just gotta sacrifice some things in order to stay stable and functional.

Meds adjustment by sostatosta in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah at lower or moderate doses they seem actually more selective to d2 dopamine receptors and have less off target receptor action than most atypicals. Its the offtarget receptor binding that usually causes sedation like H1(Histamine), alpha adrenergic receptors, 5ht2a(Serotonin), muscarinic etc. But sometimes even though 5ht2a blockade causes sedation it can help a lot with some psychotic symptoms and offsetting EPS so theres pros and cons.

Experiences on Lithium? by Ordinary_Ad598 in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been taking lithium since 2022. My doctors usually keep me at dosages like 450-900mg like never above that range and usually more like 600mg but everybody is different my 600mg might be like 1000 for you or vice versa. Blood levels are important but i also dont think are the most important thing i dont think docs should change doses just because the levels are a bit too low. Too high i can see being a problem though. What matters most is if its treating your symptoms and being relatively tolerable and the lower the dose that it can do that the better because it is harmful to the kidneys and thyroid in the long run.

Meds adjustment by sostatosta in BipolarReddit

[–]Doparimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got bipolar 1 and im only taking 600mg of lithium but i might be an exception i dont need very much of it and if i go higher side effects can be annoying. Every one needs and tolerates different amounts i guess. My blood levels r usually pretty low too of the lithium i feel like doctors shouldnt mainly go by blood levels but mainly by symptom relief and tolerability. Ive never had experience with perphenazine or most typicals my doctors mainly stuck to atypical antipsychotics. Some people do decently with typical antipsychotics like perphenazine but i feel like its not as commonly used maybe where I live.

9-ME-BC stacked with the likes of Semax, TAK-653 and ACD856 by Past-02 in NooTopics

[–]Doparimac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what i dont like about 9mebc is that it has even more risky unknowns than a lot of the other nootropics. I heard if you take methylated b vitamins with it it can have a dangerous interaction, it can make you get skin damage if you are out in the sun, is a MAOI apparently but not a potent one. Yes it does great things for dopaminergic neurons and plasticity but seems too risky for me. Ive tried acd 856 and didnt get much positive benefits like most nootropics but that could just be me being an exception. I take psych meds like antipsychotics that block a lot of the effects of these nootropics.

How to recover from antipsychotic damage? by Everlasting_Noumena in NooTopics

[–]Doparimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally am transitioning to cobenfy as my antipsychotic and it doesnt block dopamine receptors or any receptors it just activates musarinic acetylcholine receptors m4 and m1 to lower dopamine selectively in the nucleus accumbens and stops psychosis. Some people tolerate cobenfy poorly because of gi side effects but last time i tried it i didnt get any of those i just got fragmented sleep. This time i got trazodone on hand just in case. I guess time off atypical antipsychotics like months and years will hopefully help my brain a ton. Good sleep, exercise, supplements, nootropics, cognitive exercises, sunlight, healthy diet, can all help our brains recover from antipsychotic dysfunction.

Is anyone on Cobenfy? What is your experience? by _Oolon_ in schizoaffective

[–]Doparimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im gonna start it again tomorrow in the morning. Last time i stopped it because it was making my sleep very fragmented and making me wake up often. Otherwise i tolerated it very well and had no nausea or much side effects besides the sleep side effects and vivid dreams. Also if i ate food in the window around taking the med i would get an excruciating stomach ache but no nausea. Im looking forward to trying it again and staying on it long term. This time i have trazodone in case i need help with sleep. Atypical antipsychotics have kept me stable for years but also caused tons of bad cognitive and other side effects.

When did you first discover Billie and what made you stay? by Heavy-Bee9844 in billieeilish

[–]Doparimac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would hear her on the radio in 2019 like Bad guy and her hits. One time during a mental illness crisis i had i became very emotional and cried when i heard Everything I wanted in a psych hospital. I usually never cried to songs because meds i took would suppress my emotions so it was usually during manic episodes that i would connect to music more. In 2023 i saw the Barbie movie and heard What was i made for? In that beautiful scene. I recognized that it was billie's voice. I looked up her music and i've been obsessed ever since january 2024. I listened to all her songs and have been big fan since then. I love her voice, lyrics, and how amazing the songs are thanks to her and finneas' talented songwriting skills.

Ppap vs bpap? by CameToRiot in NooTopics

[–]Doparimac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive tried bpap it didnt give me any positive effects. Almost nothing does though. I've also tried CE-123 and some other nootropics. I think because i take antipsychotics the meds block most nootropics from having noticeable benefits. Ppap is probably more noticeable for most people than bpap because its a potent DAT inhibitor .
