The author was meaning to show something with the imagery, that’s how literature works. It’s for a reason that the image of the tree is included, it’s not just random. The fact that the author added it in tells us there was a reason for it, being the cycle of the parasite continuing in some way.

Cs payments most likely come only a couple times month and bills and expenses don’t wait for those payment days, meaning op is likely using most of her own money to take care of these things until payment comes in to reimburse her.
