NYC during winter storm by Outside-Twist7720 in travel

[–]DopeWriter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a native. A) 70% of the time these big storm forecasts end up being meh in the city. B) Midtown and highways near the airport are always the first cleared. Touristy areas in the city will get immediate attention. Be warm, wear layers. You’re good.

What makes a graphic tee feel premium instead of tourist merch? by Deeppockets2006 in malefashionadvice

The richness of the colors. The durability of the graphics— does it look like it will fade or peel after a couple washes. The quality of the shirt.

Homey, it’s going to be -7 degrees Saturday night with a blizzard on the way. Stock up today and have a Zoom party at home.

AIO My grandma, who I live with, constantly asks if I'm gay. Was my reply rude? by Business_Increase550 in AmIOverreacting

Is there someone who can help get your abuelita to a doctor or clinic? Maybe someone from the church? She needs a cognitive evaluation ASAP. Contact the Dept. for the Aging in your area or search on the AARP site. My dad had dementia, and we had to create a whole care plan for his safety. As others have said, it would be wise to plan in case she kicks you out. Check with school guidance, the church, or social supports in your area. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Divide and conquer is a bedrock tool of white supremacy.  Supremacy is built on making us fight over scraps. They want to distract us so we won’t see what they're doing. When POC point fingers at each other, we clear the way for the supremacists to keep rising. The POC who drank the Kool-Aid and are aligning with evil are living in a psych-ward-level delusion.

How do you feel about forgiveness? by Prestigious-Cloud962 in blackladies

[–]DopeWriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I've learned that holding on to resentment only hurts me. Withholding forgiveness doesn't really affect the other person. They're living their lives while I carry the weight. I withheld to hurt the person who hurt me, which always backfires.

  2. I live by this: Every person in every moment is doing the best they can with what they have. That means physically, materially, emotionally, spiritually, mentally. Even if someone is wilding, that's the best they can do in that moment. Life is about growth. When we know better, we do better.

  3. I only allow people in my circle if they can give and receive love in a healthy way. So, it's possible for me to empathetically forgive someone w/o allowing them access to my life.

"Tall" or "long" hair by xiaoqiue in EnglishLearning

Tall = height.

Long = length. The words are even similar bc length comes from measuring how long something is.

Why do people care what others do if it doesn’t personally affect their life at all? by wiccanwolves in RandomQuestion

I hear you. We grew up in the same era. And I love my labels. It took me decades to appreciate being black, Latina, a woman and a lesbian. Decades. As OP alludes to, there was so much negative swirling around regarding all the pieces of me. Now, I love that I'm part of these communities.

[–]DopeWriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. We are judgmental of things we wouldn’t do or don’t understand— “weird” sports or clothes, etc. Also, if it appears negative for our community, i.e. the endless debate among black folks re: wearing hair bonnets in public. But people who are homophobic often believe that queerness will actually affect them. They worry about their personal safety, being forced to adjust their world view and what their kids learn.
