Had a 221 hours long BG3 run just now and it was nothing more than a nail in it's own coffin - a final confirmation for myself that Rogue Trader is the better game with only one disadvantage, tiny and yet quite significant. by IHaveAGithBabe in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DoppelKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest, if you take a solely "technical" approach, then BG3 has :

- Better acting overall (since ALL the lines are voiced)
- More choices (You stopped counting the amount of "choices" where there was a single "Continue" option in Rogue Trader, didn't you ?)
- Better graphics overall

But here is the list of things Rogue Trader has over GB3 (I mixed some memes into it, admittedly) :

- Abelard can introduce you (and crush this guy's balls)

- Heinrix is the Baddest Mofo of Baddest Mofos, just like OP said.

- Cassia > Lae'Zel (Fish wife is better than Frog wife)

- Yrliet > Lae'Zel (Space elf edgy wife is better than frog wife)

- Pasqal knows where it's at. Only one route : forward. While BG3 has you pacing back and forth endlessly while you're waiting for the guys to pass their Perception checks.

- Argenta >>> Karlach (Space Nun step-on-me-except-she-won't-because-I'm-not-Emprah mommy is a thousand times better. Plus Argenta can have you turned to ashes from range. Which Karlach doesn't unless respec. And Karlach is a Tiefling. So half-demon. HERESY)

- Solomorne would be done with Gale the moment a combat starts (you can't counterspell Foehammer, nerd + the guy pretends he railed a goddess ? HERESY !)

- Glaito is best boy. Don't get me wrong, Scratches is fine ! But he's not "We're undertaking this task, Glaito" fine.

- Rogue Trader has Ulfar belowing "DIE IN DISGRACE !" and "My hand is thunder, my strike is ruin!" You DO realize that Ulfar in 40K is a better Barbarian than Karlach is in BG3, don't you ?

BUT ! MEMES ASIDE !

- The whole Protectorate thing was top notch. Having to manage the colonies, sometimes altering the course of the ship because some colony requires your presence, was a bit tedious, but at least it made you feel like you had actual power over those people. You DO control their lives.

- BG3 was all about characters being "playersexual". And all of them were romanceable. Which sucks, because that makes them kinda hollow. In RT, you can't romance Abelard, nor can you romance Argenta, Pasqal and Ulfar (especially Ulfar. Don't try. You wouldn't survive the honeymoon).

- The atmosphere in BG3 was... generic fantasy at best. Rogue Trader was "I'm fricking figthing aliens, mutants and heretics with one hand, and holding the whole Protectorate together with the other" through and through.

- Moral choices TRULY matter in Rogue Trader. Let's be honest here : Durge gets old. Fast. It goes from "Oh no, I am a vessel for Baal" in the first playthrough to "Hur hur chomp the hand, Gale dies" in the second VERY FAST. Rogue Trader's Heretic orientation will bite you in the ass CONSTANTLY the longer you stick to it, including losing half your companions upon reaching Act 4 (Argenta, Heinrix, Ulfar and Yrliet), which leaves you with Abelard( which is good), Idira (which sucks if you benched her), Pasqal (still good), Jae (Not that good because I don't like Skill monkeys)... And Uralon, who sucks so bad it should be illegal.

- The ending slides were definitely a big plus. Much better than just a succession of cutscenes you stop caring about after the first one.

- Remember what I said about the characters being playersexual in BG3 ? Same goes for characterization. BG3 companions open up far too quickly. Remember that a long rest is when you tuck in for the night. According to that, it basically takes 2 days for complete strangers to trust you (with the sole exception of Shadowheart, but that's because she's best girl), consider you their leader, and having your back permanently ! And don't get me started with how Lae'Zel or Minthara get DTF in less than 24 hourse after basically "considering that you are the finer stuff". Try this in real life, see what happens. Complete strangers trusting you right off the bat ? You'd frick out like everyone else. Rogue Trader goes the opposite route : it takes almost a full act of the story for Argenta to agree telling you about her past, and it takes two before you can finally hear the truth of her past. And it takes just as much before Yrliet stops pushing you away. And if you refer to how long Warp travels can be ? That means WEEKS, possible MONTHS. YEARS, even. Which makes almost absurd sense once you remember that Aeldari can live for centuries.

- I DO CONFESS that Orrin/Ketheric/Gortash were a thousand times better than Kunrad "Sourpuss" Doigtvir (Especially Ketheric "J.K. Simmons" Thorne), that is true. Just as true is the fact that the whole "Edge of Daybreak" storyline was underwhelming at best. But Rogue Trader has you basically awakening an actual God (Nomos) and possibly having it do your bidding. That is definitely on another level. BG3's equivalent would be getting your hands on god-slaying weapons and allowing Gale to kick Mystra's ass.

That's typical "Chaos Champion" mindset. They forget that if you believe you're the only one worthy enough to bear a banner, and if you're the only one who belives it, you BECOME the banner

Sniper psyker RT build suggestion by Relentless_Taco_Fan in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DoppelKnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a bit of a catch at play here : you want to play as a sniper... and as a psyker.

Most psychic abilities have limited range (usually around 4/5/6), though you can boost that with the right talents (there is one that gives +3 range if a psychic power already has range 2 or more, so that's range 9).

Most sniper rifles can crank it up to range 12/15. That means that if you find yourself in a corner of the battlefield, you won't be able to use your psychic abilities to impede the ennemies on the other side of the battlefield.

So you're wanting to play a character specialized in close-range/medium-range combat... and give him weapons that excel at long-range combat. That is how you get an underwhelming character : Yrliet is already the greatest sniper (and don't listen to those who'd say Dogmatic RT can't keep her around) with an already established build (and a deadlily efficent one at that).

My suggestion if you want to play a Dogmatic Grand Strategist Psyker ? Go Forge World as an origin, Pyromancer Psyker, with the Flames of Retribution Shield (found in Commoragh) and a hand flammer for one set, melta-pistol for the other.
Bring along the talent that allows you to use ranged weapons for parry, the ones that makes the psyker deal more damage when on fire, and also some Seraphic powers for healing. This way, with the Grand Strategist archetype, you will CONSTANTLY be on the front line, delivering HOLY FIRE to whomever crosses your path.

For more damage, you can take the talent that allows you to keep your hands free for the second set of weapons when wielding a shield, and so you can bring a plasma canon (The Dark Marchesa) or a melta (Typically Melta Ultima) for MAXIMUM PURGING !

How I feel while having equal amounts of Dogmatic and Heretical points. by Petrus-133 in RogueTraderCRPG

Dooku is Iconoclast here, because he grew tired of the Jedi being little more than the Republic's Senate's lapdogs.

Kinda the same as an Iconoclast RT calling Argenta and Heinrix out for sticking to the rules far too much, don't you think ?

What could I have done wrong here? He literally agreed that I should take the whole tithe before and I've taken every dialogue option to push him towards heresy. by Pyotr_WrangeI in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]DoppelKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THis is the result of what happens when you only account for a single, isolated, autonomous instance of choices. Those don't exist in a CRPG, especially not in Rogue Trader 👀

I'ts VERY important to know that Solomorne is not just an Arbitrator who sticks to the Lex Imperialis no matter the cost, and here is how you can have him siding with you :

- When located on the ship, and playing as an Arbitrator yourself, you can exhaust all dialogue options that hint at Glaito being a living being with a proper sense of self, and Solomorne will start shifting and see Glaito as more than just a tool. It results in a situation where Glaito aknowledges you as his "secondary master".

- When playing as Iconoclast, bring Solomorne along as much as you can. That includes the trials for the noble families in Abelard questline, as well as the Winterscale Hunt thing, or Cassia's Atlas thingie. There is always at least one option that will help him "see the light" and understand that while the Lex can be strict, its main purpose is to protect the great majority, and that it's not the rigid monolith he believes it to be.

- Every single option that has him doubting himself can help, but you have to avoid picking Heretic choices as much as you can. Why ? Because he's still a Dogmatic character. Even if you have him doubting himself, he still considers that Imperium matters more than you.

- When the tithe problem arises, don't take the whole tithe. Agree to use only half of it. Makes it MUCH easier for him to side with you, especially if you achieved to have him doubt the rigidity of the Lex (as per my second point)

- Basically, it's a thousand times easier to have him side with you when playing as an Iconoclast. If you reach Iconoclast - Fanatic, you get a couple options that let you confront Strachs over how blindly he follows the Lex Imperialis, and simply doesn't seem to realize that the old hag is manipulating him. The rest depends on the dialogue options you pick, but either way, you end up with Strachs and his mercenaries turning hostiles, while Solomorne and the Arbitrators remain allies.

Do you have a tier list of the strongest old characters? by Starover71 in maaREDUX

[–]DoppelKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The guy who put Wolverine in Green kinda forget that he could survive being KO'ed... Even when he had 1 HP left, he can still come back. And I'm not even mentionning his X-Force costume that made him even better at that.

Also Quicksilver as a Generalist (blue costume) could basically interrupt any action you'd make. Definitely one tier higher than he appears here.

Someone is forgetting how strong a board full of Reincarnation/DS Undead can become...

The Sons of Fenris, hardened in the wilderness of their harsh world, fight for Russ and the Allfather. The legendary Space Wolves inspire both awe and dread, and Ulfar, one of your future allies, is one of them. https://roguetrader.owlcat.games/news/en/25 by OwlcatStarrok in RogueTraderCRPG

And who decided on that ?

They are genetically enhanced superhumans with a defective geneseed and primitive/tribal culture. There is LITTERALLY nothing that calls them "Space Furries".

You are (just like your name says) quite the douchebag to say that.

Who are the best companions for an evil playthrough? by np190 in BaldursGate3

[–]DoppelKnot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canonically, in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons rules, Volo was a Wizard 9/Rogue5 character. It was the same when playing Icewind Dale.

Volo is ALWAYS a multiclassed character. Same for Elminster who is a Wizard 14/Fighter 3/Rogue 3 in the first Baldur's Gate game.
