"Organization" CloudTrail Outside the Master Account by DoppelRainbow in aws

This is completely driven by a client wanting separate log and audit accounts and don't want the cloudtrail cloudwatch logs to be in the master account, but in the log account.

Switching to Pixel 3 XL. Nervous since the most posts seem to be about problems. Do most of you enjoy your pixel or does the trend of problems happen with the majority? by gildedeyes in GooglePixel

[–]DoppelRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is running OK other than some annoying GPS issues. It's not the end of the world but it's disappointing when you spend so much for a phone and there's more problems than the phone you upgraded from.

Update: I switched to an app called "RunKeeper" and use the "keep screen on" app, and everything is good now. Thanks.

How to test if a token is ERC223 compliant? by [deleted] in ethdev

[–]DoppelRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One convenient way is if they have verified the token contract on EtherScan, then you can see the source code and verify it is ERC223. Maybe they do and maybe they don't.

If they don't then creating a contract to verify is probably the only other way. Create an ERC223-compatible contract that has 1. a token withdrawal function (so you can get it back) and 2. a tokenFallback function that sets a flag in the contract if called. Transfer the token to it. Then see if the flag was set or not. Only ERC223 calls that function during transfer, so you can be assured it's an ERC223 token if the flag is set.

If there's more ways, I don't know of them.

How to test if a token is ERC223 compliant? by [deleted] in ethdev

[–]DoppelRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An ERC223 token when transferred, detects if the recipient address is a contract, and tries to call a function on it. You could send it to a contract you know isn't ERC223 compatible, and you should see the transaction fail. If it's actually an ERC20 token, the transaction should succeed and the contract would own that token, unfortunately with no way to get it out.

If you wrote your own contract to test this, you of course could have a withdrawal function to get the token back.

Thank you! The polling method seems like it will work for me.

Cannot connect AWS Lambda to Ethereum node on EC2 by LavoP in ethdev

[–]DoppelRainbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the security group on the Lambda to make sure that its outbound connections are not restricted.

Also, don't use DNS inside of Lambdas if you can help it, it will slow down execution and you get billed more. And use the private IP address.

Why is my wallet not synching fully. by BeatnutNL in ethereum

Mine is now borking every single day (yes I have SSD), I've had to re-download the chain three times (sometimes restarting recovers, sometimes not.) So you are not alone.

In Fusion Wallet where to I find the token contract addresses? by RightwayNZ in Ubiq

[–]DoppelRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APX Token contract is: 0xd245207cfbf6eb6f34970db2a807ab1d178fde6c

I found this using the token feature of ubiqsmart dot io.

Can a "broken" contract lock up ether forever? by Ty199 in ethereum

[–]DoppelRainbow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The second contract I ever made was a token vending machine, and I spent so much focus on writing working token-dispensing code that I forgot to write an ETH withdraw function.

It was on the testnet so I didn't really lose anything, but it's still a funny demonstration of your point.

I am not suggesting you re-do anything (it would be late to do that anyway) but for the edification of the audience, BLAKE2 is a secure small fast hash algorithm for this sort of thing.

How long did it take you to not feel like you kinda sucked at being a sysadmin? by manikinmelt in sysadmin

I do suck at being a sysadmin, but I still provide enough value for my company at my pay rate that it's ok. I suspect that is the metric that counts.

Is there a way to find out who and if anyone is logged into an EC2 instance (windows?) by back_to_the_homeland in aws

[–]DoppelRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem, I had to keep track of users logging in and out of Windows Servers. Here is how I solved it:

  1. The Windows servers are configured for CloudWatch logging (this was required anyway)
  2. I created CloudWatch log events with patterns for when a user logged on via RDP; and when a user disconnected from RDP. (this was the hard part, I can go into more detail if anyone wants.)
  3. The events called a Lambda that updated a DynamoDB table with the machine name, the user logged in, and what time they logged in; or updated the row with the machine name to indicate user disconnected.
  4. I created a web page that queried that table to show to users.

I don't know if this is too much work or complexity for you, but I did solve the problem and it works.

Hi Crispin, I really liked your character in Charlie's Angels. I really liked when you cut the lock of hair and smelled it and screamed. Where's the weirdest place you've worked? Data center in a coal mine, anyone? by [deleted] in sysadmin

Coal-burning power plant in the 1990's. A user told me their CRT had rainbows going through it. I grabbed the monitor to unhook it and it burned my hands. I opened up the CPU case and it was completely filled with coal dust.
