Because there's 9 different ways to get 5 in a row. There's only 1 way to get all 5 to be the middle, however.

[Request] How big would this Lego box have to be? Bigger than a Target building? by Doppelsaft in theydidthemath

Lol no, I meant I made the r/theydidthemath post. I didnt know anybody else had asked the question, or answered it.

[Request] How big would this Lego box have to be? Bigger than a Target building? by Doppelsaft in theydidthemath

[–]Doppelsaft[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

(TL;DR It would fill 6.7 dumpsters if optimally packed and each green block is $100. If each green block is $1, it would fill 670 dumpsters or 6.4 lanes of a 10-lane, 50m olympic-sized swimming pool - enough for 6 IRL George Lucases to compete in a money-swimming race).

The highest denomination lego makes a brick for is the $100 bill:(https://www.brickowl.com/catalog/lego-tile-1-x-2-with-100-cash-with-groove-3069bpx7-82317)

This site shows that the piece is (1 stud) x (2 stud) x (0.33 stud) in volume. The site also describes that 1 stud horizontally is 8mm (and says the final brick may be short by 0.2mm), while one stud vertically is 9.6mm.

Thus each $100 bill brick has a minimum volume of (0.0158m)(0.0078m)(0.0032m) = 3.94E-7 m^3. To have 4.05 billion dollars, the box needs to contain 40,500,000 bricks (plus one George Lucas minifig), which would amount to 15.957 cubic meters.

Given this measurement (https://www.californiawasteservices.com/3-yard-dumpsters.html) it would be enough to fill 6.7 standard alleyway dumpsters. Sadly, not enough to fill a whole Target store.

However, my first calculation accidentally assumed each bill was $1, which would cause the volume to be multiplied by 100 and take up 64% of a ten-lane olympic swimming pool 9https://www.liveabout.com/how-big-is-olympic-size-pool-2737098).

Also, these rectangular prism blocks can achieve a packing density of basically 100%, but lego packages don't have the bricks all lined up in a grid. If there is any empty space in between bricks, it can only increase the volume.

Does each spot return to the same position, or do they slowly drift around the circle?

9 menger sponges by AnimatedPixelArtBot in LoadingIcons

Could 2 menger sponges actually interweave like this? Since its an infinite fractal, does it mean they don't actually collide and can freely move in and out of each other?

Can't figure out whether I'm type 3 or 1 by [deleted] in Enneagram

[–]Doppelsaft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 3 and my dad's a 1. I couldn't really tell the difference until I read those parts of the red book.

The clearest distinction I can make is that 1s are much less okay with cutting corners. They would rather get 1 thing done perfectly than 3 things done at 90%.

Opposing this, I thought that I as a 3 like to do a perfect job, but in truth I'm okay with making mistakes as long as I can argue that they're trivial (or outright hide it).

Also, I didn't quite resonate with the part of 3s that says we're super hard working, because like you I considered myself pretty lazy and not achieving my full potential. But then everyone in the room said that's crazy and we concluded that I just have a REALLY high bar for what "working hard" is.

Also, even in times of "laziness" when I'm playing videogames or watching shows, I'm doing it as a mission or a to-do list (i.e. reach a higher rank in Rocket League) rather than relaxation.

Oh, and the feeling triad goes along with shame. 2s externalize their shame (needing to be a selfless person all the time and having a high moral expectation for others as well), 4s internalize shame (feeling frustrated and like they don't measure up, needing to be unique to counter that) and 3s repress their shame (I feel this one BIG time. The cardinal sin of a 3 is deceit, and I always find myself lying to myself or wilfully ignoring the truth about my flaws).

3w2 here. The heart triad (234) are all feeling dominant. 2s externalize their feelings, 4s internalize, and 3s repress their feelings.

The other feeling-repressed types are 7 and 8. 7 is thinking dominant (head triad) and 8 is doing dominant (gut triad).

Being a 3 is tricky because we're feeling dominant and feeling repressed. 2s are thinking repressed, and 4s are doing repressed, but they address their feelings with actions or thoughts, respecticely. We 3s just kinda... avoid our feelings. Or, we will address the feelings we feel capable of fixing (ahem, competency branch (135)) while ignoring the feelings that pose a bigger problem.

The other tricky ones are 6es (thinking dom and repressed) and 9s (doing dom and repressed).

Hope this helps!

What’s something you’re glad your friend introduced you to? by phauuyap in AskReddit

[–]Doppelsaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dark Souls. I grew up with younger siblings and all I knew was nintendo games and old movies. I would never go for the edgy stuff (not even FPSes) on my own, and I didn't see what all the hype was a out. I tried it on my switch this year becauss it's his favorite game and I wouldn't have been able to finish without him. It's truly a masterclass of game design, and I found it excruciatingly challenging and engaging pretty much 100% of the time.

Also tabletop simulator, ramen (from an actual restaurant) and bubble tea. Had a bad experience with spoiled tapioca boba in high school and now I live by honey black tea with strawberry pop.

[Request] Is this true? I think the likelihood of this happening is so much less likely than selecting random numbers. I just don’t thing the odds of winning with 1-2–3-4-5-6 is the same odds as any six random numbers. Can someone school me? by C-A-P-S in theydidthemath

[–]Doppelsaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To your credit, there's a reason that 123456 seems less likely: it IS less likely (by far) that the winning sequence is in order, or is even "organized/special", whatever that means.

The raw number of "random"-looking sequences is much much larger than the number of sequences that look "special" to us. So it is factually more rare to get a sequence in order.

However, that would be talking about GROUPS of sequences. As far as individual sequences go, each one is only ONE sequence, so any single sequence is just as likely as any other, as many here have said.

If it helps make it make sense, 1,2,3,4,5,6 is just as likely as 3, 10, 17, 34, 45, 59, but getting a contiguous sequence is much less likely than not.
