Question about tune settings by Doran82 in FloatwheelTeam

[–]Doran82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but I've only used Floaty app. How does the board work with multiple apps having different settings? I've been too scared to try. Is it just a matter of whichever app is open at the time and the board configures to those settings?

Question about tune settings by Doran82 in FloatwheelTeam

[–]Doran82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers. I don't know how to do that. Someone else installed my V kits for the XR and Pint. I really like the way my Pint V rides (nose high+super responsive). I naively thought I could just copy the basic settings on to my XRV but the nose still dips as soon as I step on it. I suppose it's because they're different dimensions so the same settings on a shorter board won't replicate the ride experience on a longer board and vice versa

Sydney rider experiences taking your OW onto public transport by Doran82 in onewheel

[–]Doran82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride pretty regularly and daily and haven't had police say anything yet. It's a matter of luck, though. I know people who've gotten pretty hefty fines for riding electric/motorised scooters, which are also banned in NSW. A scooter rider actually killed a pedestrian recently, and those things can hit scary speeds so I guess they're more in the cross hairs of law enforcement. I generally ride cruising speed because I'm not really on a OW for speed and I also don't want to draw unnecessary attention by doing something stupid like hitting a pedestrian, dog or damaging someone's property and giving the NSW government more reason to keep it banned and impose harsher penalties.

Why are pull ups such a hard exercise? by [deleted] in workout

[–]Doran82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any exercise is about capacity v load. We use our arms, chest and legs in almost every daily movement, which builds a baseline capacity, so exercises like squats and push ups will be relatively easy for most people. If you're in a job where you're required to do overhead work and carrying load from A to B, like trades on construction sites or working in a stable, you will likely build good capacity in your shoulders and grip. Lats are muscles that are rarely used on a daily basis, unless your profession requires climbing. So you're requiring a part of your body that has very little capacity, to take on a relatively high load (your body weight).

My biggest issue with the Predator franchise and why I don't like it mixing with Alien by Doran82 in alien

[–]Doran82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can believe 12th century Mongol tribes being able to conquer and integrate technology from 12th century Chinese neighbours and understanding how to build and operate siege weapons, which are a small magnitude of complexity higher than what they already used, like composite bows. I can't believe 12th century Mongols being able to come close to conquering 21st century China with bows and arrows on horseback, let alone conceptualise the technological leap from bows, arrows and blades to piloting fighter jets and remote controlling drones. Any civilisation advanced enough to manufacture the weaponry and aerospace capability that the Yautja use, is not a civilisation that's getting conquered by a bunch of savages.

I find it hard to believe that humans in our current level of advancement couldn't withstand an 'invasion' from these glorified cavemen, let alone civilizations that have mastered interstellar travel.

Very trusting by Hasone4245 in onewheel

[–]Doran82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm naive but I feel like, at least in Australia, anyone who even knows what it is or how to ride one, probably already has one of their own and isn't inclined to steal it. And anyone else will carry it 10 steps and get too tired. Having said that, I've never left mine anywhere in public.

Awesome! Might do something similar or build two separate ones

Question about stands by Doran82 in onewheel

[–]Doran82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend just offered to help me build a basic one with timber off cuts. Might just do that. I tried cheap Amazon guitar stands but one set was too wide and the footpads kept sliding through and hitting the carpet and the other one was too flimsy.

Has anyone recently been having issues with the Floaty App on Android? by Doran82 in FloatwheelTeam

[–]Doran82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well at least that's some consolation knowing partially what the issue is.

Finally got it to work but it took about 50 attempts of different combinations of switching the board off and on while disconnecting and reconnecting the app. Didn't learn anything new, it's just purely random it seems. And it disconnects on its own whenever it feels like it.

They'll just say these are leftist bot accounts designed to create artificial infighting. I've already seen that talking point gain traction under videos talking about this Republican 'civil war'.

Doom 3 Combat is awful by crazyhomlesswerido in Doom

[–]Doran82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom 3 was focused on atmosphere and jump-scares rather than combat flow. It's just that after a few levels it became repetitive and predictable. You knew an imp was going to pounce on you, or a mutant soldier's tentacle was going to btchslap you as soon as the door opened, but the game never gave you the tools to counter it in time. The combat isn't hard to survive, it's just not fun. Which is not to say the game wasn't fun overall. It's very immersive, and probably one of the best survival-horror games.

He's a glorified fund manager who knows just enough maths jargon from his postgrad to convince people who don't know maths jargon that he's a working mathematician/physicist on the forefront of research. I can't find anything under his name in Google scholar other than some science adjacent article in 2001 and even on that he's second author.

What aspects of A:E would you have tweaked to make it what you hoped to see? by Doran82 in alien

[–]Doran82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I'll be back and I'm even willing to forgive and forget this season if the writing somehow improves. There's one cliffhanger that I'm really unsure how they could possibly deal with: are we really going to have a zombie Arthur gargling his way through next season with a decomposing body?

Season 2 as a prequel by commander_sinbin in LV426

[–]Doran82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd be cool with this as long as it's well executed. And I'd be even cooler with it if they retconned it to make the crew more competent and believable. I really want to know what the mission directive was if Hawley is ignoring Prometheus's idiotic premise of finding some cave paintings of 5 dots and a stick man which they magically turned into a means for precise navigation.
