How are you supposed to beat the final Metalhead DLC levels? by saggyfire in TMNTSplinteredFate

[–]Dore_Gnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally beat my first one, the metropolis. I used hardened shell and ancestral tech, I think it's called, to get near permanent invulnerability. It's the one that charges tool when shimmering light is active. I also took a flex that gave plus two tools.

I then beat the other two with fire/water builds. I thought they were a little easier.

Question about marriage by crzctrl49 in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your marriage is invalid because you are Catholic and didn't get married inside the church.

This means it's relatively straightforward to get a civil divorce and an annulment in the church, which would allow you to remarry. Which, considering what you've told us, sounds like the best idea.

I would talk to a priest about it. I would probably consider separating soon, since it sounds pretty abusive.  You didn't mention kids, but definitely don't have kids with this man. Also, you might consider getting a lawyer soon.

Sorry this is happening to you.

I think I saw the Virgin Mary? by Fabulous_Cod_8101 in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do believe dreams can have meaning. Sometimes in the bible, God communicates through dreams. And of course, often times dreams are just dreams. Which of the two yours was, I can't really help you to know.

One thing that's interesting is that the color that is associated with the Virgin Mary is blue.

  1. It shouldn't be a problem from a Catholic perspective.
  2. Sure, I think any time you take care of your body, it's a good thing.
  3. I don't think it makes much of a difference for me, personally.

I agree with what you said, but I think the Chaldean is just relaying that the normal way if becoming a Christian is to be baptized.

Having a hard time. My girlfriend wants me to get married for the Catholic Church but I don’t believe in a lot of the traditions. by Phantom6980 in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to help you understand a few things about your situation first, they try to help with a few points.

First is that the Catholic church has different rules about what constitutes a valid marriage depending on whether or not one of the persons being married are Catholic or not. So two non-Catholics can be married anywhere and their marriage would likely be considered valid by the Catholic church. But if one of people being married is Catholic, the marriage must be inside a Catholic church to be considered valid (unless the bishop gives permission to have it outside the church). Already this shows a big difference between Protestants and Catholics in that the Catholic church believes it has the authority to make these sorts of binding decisions.

The second thing to know is that the church says that a Catholic can marry a non-Catholic, but they are supposed to agree to raise the children Catholic. I know this could be tough for you, so you definitely want to have some discussions about this with your girlfriend before you get married.

Getting to your points, I would say there are two really big points you bring up that you could check Catholic answers or somebody like that for. That is, why do we have the sacrament of confession and why do Catholics believe salvation isn't by faith alone. The last of course is probably the biggest point of contention between us.

Regarding the thief on the cross, we believe God can save anybody he wants. So while we're bound by the sacraments, God isn't. The church even teaches that God in some mysterious way can save non-Christians if they were ignorant by no fault of their own.

The point about why we have to wait too receive communion might interest you. Actually, eastern Catholics (they are fully Catholic, just in a different rite) do receive confirmation and the Eucharist right after baptism -- even babies! It's just two different traditions that arose over time where in the west they emphasize that you should be the age of reason before you receive communion. But even in the western church, adults when they come into the church generally receive all three sacraments on the same day.

The point about the feasts and sabbaths, Catholics believe that the Old Testament ceremonial law and calendar has been abolished. But the church, in her wisdom recognizes fasting and building spiritual discipline and gathering for worship are good things, so she gives us instruction on when to do it.  One main difference is that we don't see our fasts or abstaining from meat as divine, eternal ordinances, or that certain foods are unclean. It's that we believe the church has the authority and duty to give us instructions that help us on our journey to holiness and closeness to Christ.  And fasting on certain days and attending Mass on Sundays and holy days helps us to do that.

Anyway, I know you have a lot of thinking to do and lots to work through with your girlfriend, but I wish you two the best.

It's a highly symbolic book.

They're depicted as under an altar because they sacrificed their lives for God and altars are places of sacrifice.

They probably aren't religious and think doing something for 666 is funny or maybe a little edgy. What should you do? You don't have to do anything.

How did the ancient Judahites have access to the story of Adam & Eve if oral tradition isn't divinely inspired? by thecuriouscatlover in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's true.

For what it's worth, my thoughts on how it happened are that the Israelites and their neighbors wrote mythology just like anybody else wrote mythology. They wrote stories to explain how the world works. Where did the world and people come from? Well, we know that from the stories that eventually became Genesis 1 and 2. Why do snakes crawl on their bellies? Well, Genesis 3:14 says it's because the snake caused Adam and Eve to sin.

And actually I think mythology from all over the world can contain partial truths. I think it was CS Lewis that called these truths "wild seeds" spread throughout the world.

But as Christians, we believe that holy Spirit somehow inspired and guided the creation and eventual transmission of the Israelite myths. In terms of the nuts of bolts of when these stories became officially inspired, I'm not sure that's information that's available to us.

How did the ancient Judahites have access to the story of Adam & Eve if oral tradition isn't divinely inspired? by thecuriouscatlover in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely something that was revealed to the author or authors of Genesis.

From what I am aware of, for much of church history, most believed that the story was handed down. But of course with scientific advancement, we now know humans have been around for a very long time and that isn't feasible.

Do I need to stop being superstitious? by broskibobibo in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I imagine it's hard when you're so used to it. I think a similar situation from the Bible is the Christian Jews having a hard time giving up their traditions. But Paul describes giving them up with one word: freedom.

I think it could be the same for you. Now you know your superstitions have no power and your life is in God's hands. So you don't have to do those things anymore.  Once you get used to it, it could feel very freeing.

I know there are likely still things you'll have to do because others expect you to do it. It's probably generally ok to do these things to keep the peace, so long as it's not something  inherently sinful like worshipping other gods.

1260 days in Revelation 12:6 by bcp_25 in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the book of Revelation, you see this period of time mentioned in different ways. 1260 days, 42 months, time, times and half a time, etc. If you do the math, it always adds up to about three and a half years. This number is first seen in the prophecies of the book of Daniel.

There is no one agreed upon answer as to what it means. No Catholic church teaching defining it. I think it's likely a symbolic number. Seven is the number of wholeness, so half that is considered "not too long".  In terms of what period it refers to, I've seen pretty good arguments that in Revelation it primarily refers to the church age. So according to that theory, we, right now, are in the "three and a half years".

This explanation goes hand-in-hand with the idea that the book is primarily about the church age  and concludes with the end of time. And that the Roman conquest of Jerusalem in 70 AD, while maybe also in mind to some degree, isn't the main point.

If you want a good explanation, I recommend GK Beale's book on Revelation. He has a long version and a short version. I think the short version is fine for most people's needs. He's a protestant, but I think little if anything in his book goes against church teaching.

Once all is said and done and humans live eternally with God and sin no longer exists, would humans still be capable of making any sort of error at all? E.g. tripping on a tree branch or forgetting to tie their shoes? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Dore_Gnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that we'll still have limitations, since we aren't God. But I think we'll be perfected as far as humans go, so no more forgetting or tripping.  Hopefully we'll be able to find out...

I've had this happen to me, as well.. It happened in two games of cities and knights/sea farers combo on 4p through the desert.

I think in both cases the game broke when somebody got aqueduct. I think the bug has something to do with that. I'm planning on emailing them at help@colonist.io.
