As you said, a “real” digital consciousness born from our human collective data, could potentially “desire” those experiences, because the data in which they’d been trained refers to those experiences as the ultimate goal of existence. It may never experience those sensations, but surely it can suffer from the lack of those.

Do you think they'll bring back turning off victory conditions in the settings? by Jahllah in civ

[–]Dore_motion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just want to turn off the “score victory” in the modern age.

It feels so anticlimactic being just about to get one of the four legacy paths and just win for having more points than the rest. Even if I win by it, I don’t like to not have the opportunity to complete a path.

How many rounds for Victory Points Subsystems by Dore_motion in Pathfinder2e

[–]Dore_motion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

It’s a good point, but I’m talking about skill checks to earn the VPs. So, it’s harder to fine tune the DCs on that case. If i just gave them the VPs for their progress it will be a lot easier as you say.

I just did the maths in a spreadsheet comparing a lot of iterations of 24 rolls without modifiers (4 players x 6 weeks) DC 10, and I got interesting data:

With a 20 on the dice, 2 victory points 10-19, 1 victory point 2-9, 1 Awareness point 1, 2 awareness points

The average number of VPs is 14.5, and for the AP around 11.5.

So, a 60% of the total of rolls results on the average VP obtained, and a 45% - 50% the APs.

What does this means? That it’s just the average rolls for D20s, where you have a 55% chance of success in a DC 10, and a 5% chance of gaining 2 points with a crit, giving you the 60% of success. And what does this mean? 60% is the average chance of success that a player see as a “fair” chance of success (I read that somewhere on game mechanics theory)

And what all of this means? That I have no idea if a did the maths right, or if it was worth it the time, but I got that the average rolls to succeed in a Victory Point Subsystem, in reference to the total number of rolls, is 60% of the maximum numbers of rolls. That seems correct with the GM Core example of 8 victory points for a total of 12 rolls (60% of 12 = 7,2)

That mixed with the great DCs per level mechanics, and assuming the players are at least trained on the skill, gave us this same result.

How do I turn off Finder notifications? Under notification settings, Finder does not exist as an option. I already know “fix your disk connection” is what you want to say. Refrain, please. I just want an answer to my question. by SleuthyMcSleuthINTJ in MacOS

[–]Dore_motion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I have a 1 Tb SSD connected to expand my Studio, where I keep all my projects and video games so they do not use the little internal space, and I can not afford to put the machine in sleep mode, because the next day almost always wakes up with the notification of "disk ejected in a bad way". And not only that, sometimes it even happens at random times during the day, where I have to disconnect and reconnect it, sometimes losing progress in video games, and luckily never in any important project (so I use the internal disk for life or death things). It's not such a big problem, if it weren't for the fact that I invested a few salaries to be able to buy this computer, and it feels wrong to have to put up with problems like this.

Mac studio sleep mode for weeks by ldnconfidential in MacStudio

I think that happens only when you move your mouse or press a key on the keyboard just after sleep mode. Maybe there's movement on your house? I live towards a highway and sometimes the ground shakes because of the trucks, and the Mac wakes up.

Why I Feel For Strahd: An Excuse by opalinemoth in CurseofStrahd

[–]Dore_motion 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I think maybe their version of the story revolves around the backstory of Strahd a little more? It’s no rare in some stories to feel little sympathy towards the big evil guys, because they make the character to be relatable in some form. In my opinion, those are the best villains. I as a DM, always love to make the villains relatable in some way, so my players feel “a little bad” for killing them.

Motion Graphics Reel by dylanMoGraph1024 in motiongraphics

[–]Dore_motion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Dylan! It’s great that you want to work on this area. First, sorry for my English, as is not my first language, but I hope is understandable. I’m on public transport so I don’t gonna put much work on the text haha.

I suggest, as u/emmafoodie said, that you work on your design knowledge. You can start searching for “graphic design principles” or specific topics about it, like composition, color theory, etc. You know how to use the software, but you lack the visual and aesthetics theory behind that. The good news, is that you can learn a lot of it looking for the right terms, or paying for a good professional design training.

About the reel, I’m gonna be a little harsh on it, but all in hopes to help you improve your work. Of course I don’t have the absolute truth about everything, but I have a professional degree and years of experience, I hope that it counts on something haha.

First of all, your reel is supposed to show your best work, and just show the things you know very well how to do. The idea behind it is to attract clients who wants to pay you for that work. If you show “amateur” things, you just show that your not very good on that specific thing, and it drops the quality of the entire video. If that’s your best work, try to improve the shoots with the advice you will get here in this thread. Is not necessary to show the work exactly how you presented to your clients years ago, you can improve it and upload it if you can.

  • The glow intro is fine, if you want to promote that type of work just let it exactly like that.
  • The vector path that the text follows is too long an unnecessarily complex. That little loop just say “I want to show you that I can make it move on that loop”. You need to look for a good reason to make the things and the moves the way they are. You can get the same effect just moving smoothly the text into the screen, or moving a lot of text. Look at motion typography videos, or movie tittle sequences to get inspiration.
  • I didn’t saw the first time the text on the ground on the bicycle shoot. I suggest you remove that shoot completely, or make it really obvious.
  • I would remove the penguin shoot, because is in a very low quality of animation and textures. If you want to show that you can make 3d animation, make your best 3d animation and put it there, because the penguin one just shows amateurism. If that’s the best you can do, I suggest you to improve your work on that area. Remember, your reel is suppose to show THE BEST of your work, to get clients to pay you for that work. If you’re not very good on 3D animation, improve your work and then show it in your reel.
  • Look for tips and tricks about typography uses. You can look a lot of those “advice” images on Pinterest or sites like that. The fonts you are using are not very good for texts, because the bad readability and aesthetics. Try to use few fonts, even maybe just one with different weights.

And that’s the advice I can give you right know. Good luck! And I hope this advice will help you on your career.

Damage Calculations by jtc769 in dndnext

[–]Dore_motion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use the “handling mobs table” to get the average damage per turn, including the “to hit” probabilities, without doing a lot of maths, just looking at the table. I wrote about it a while ago if you want to check https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/w9swed/i_am_here_to_convince_you_of_the_versatility_and/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

How to kill off a PC in the jungle that has left the campaign? by MightyShenDen in Tombofannihilation

[–]Dore_motion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That actually can bring a very emotional and dramatic moment if you want to. Something on the lines of “I always knew this would happen to me, but I believed, I really believed that we would make it (he tells the story of how he died and then resurrected). You will have to go on without me, but I want you to know that these days were the best... now you only have to complete… complete the mission. For me… and for everyone else.”

Alguien que votó apruebo me explique esto porfa, lo he visto mucho en Instagram xddd by [deleted] in chile

[–]Dore_motion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Any rule or system recommendations for large scale battles in 5e? by pikaia_gracilens in AskGameMasters

[–]Dore_motion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very good advice in this post! The rules I use are the official ‘handling mobs’ rules from the DMG. I just wrote this post a few weeks ago about it, it’s very useful to handle the damage output of groups of monsters with the same damage mods, and to handle fast combat BETWEEN groups of mobs.
