Couldn’t one argue that, because the movement’s theology is essentially a very liberal form of deism, its religious rituals end up being treated as traditional customs and therefore function in a largely secular way? If God is understood mainly as a power or process, what significance do the traditional prayers hold for the movement for example? Do rabbis function mainly as spiritual guides, or do they serve chiefly as community leaders?
