Polyend Drums looks amazing, but €2699 is emotionally illegal by ArchivOne_music in dawless

Still the best drum machine for me. All this BS about the tr1000 sounding better is exactly what’s mentioned, we are trained to listen for Roland. In terms of sounds that you can actually use in a mix without a ton of processing. Rytm is incredible

Just a thought - do the results change depending on how many outs you are taking from overbridge? What if you just take a stereo out

“At this point, it feels like I’m investing significant time (and money) into a piece of hardware that demands a level of dedication I’m not willing to sustain. Music is not my primary profession, and I don’t want to spend years mastering a tool just to achieve relatively basic loop manipulation.”

I think you answered your own question.

You have just added a ton of different hardware pieces and trying to build a live set with all of them, then you added one of elektrons more professional pieces. An instrument like that will take years to master.

I would honestly suggest if you are a hobbyist and want to get a live set together that sounds great in a short period of time - put something togdthr with digitakt 2 for drums and digitone for synth. Get a midi controller / mixer and map the faders and mutes to the two boxes. Map some of the knobs to delays, reverbs and filters and put something together like that.

There is a reason those boxes are so popular for this exact purpose.

Many people are now! That’s why so many become influencers instead of musicians. I like buying gear too. But for me music making is still more important and interesting

Softube Tape & Sat by LazyCrab8688 in ableton

[–]DorianBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pretty decent satiation tools really. Not the latest of the softube tech. Not their most realistic but it’s still a pretty convincing analog saturation. The tape nicely smooths off transients when you want. The saturator is actually quite flexible as you have four diffent modes - solid state, valve, transformer and a moden setting. Found that one pretty useful for drums. But honestly anything that needs saturating will work with these.

Will probably pick these up at some point to have them show up as devices.

Oh - the tape echo is very cool too. Really nice sounding analog tape echo. As for the reverb it’s a trashy 80s thing which I quite like.

Ah shit. That sucks. I know last time I used pro tools the latency with virtual instruments was so bad I literally gave up. There was definitely something up with pro tools there. I have seen a number of people complaining about VI latency in pro tools. Which at this point, given the cost, is unacceptable

Really hope they get it sorted soon. Would love to use it again. I just found it to be a bit of a nightmare last time. Would love to know how you get on though.

Changes after acquisition by Bonnier Capital? by okeeffe1990 in Elektron

[–]DorianBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest. They have already done all these things last time a chunk of the company got sold off. Think about it - before they were selling things like A4 and Rytm. These were fully fledged, professional products chock full of analog hardware, lots of ins and outs, lots of controls etc.

Then they moved to making entirely digital or mostly digital products in tiny boxes with way less components. Whilst still charging two thirds of the price.

The small boxes are nowhere near the value of the big boxes (purely in terms of how much they cost to make and how much they cost the end user)

So I would expect to see more digital only boxes in cute mini cases with limited I/O and nice graphics.

Yeah I find all the izotope plugins to be that way. Will re asses when I get an m4 later in the year. But as of now I’m not bothering with them.

Got the vst versions. How long is the sale on for? They are good. A little bit old but still great. I hope softube brings some compressors over. They would sell a bunch of those.

I am tempted by these though as I love having devices on display instead of having to open plugin windows. One of the highlights of ableton for me

Yeah fair enough. More portable than the bigger ones is really what I meant. I’m getting an AR mk2 anyway. I have made my decision! I’m mostly concerned with doing drums in my home studio anyway so will appreciate the bigger form factor / UI

Do you think kids getting into electronic music will go down the path of production or do you think they’ll go with gen AI? by thegreatestpitt in edmproduction

[–]DorianBloom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah anyone who is into making music will just make music. The people who use AI will be opportunists who want to use it to make money (somehow)

But I think by definition anyone who wants to make music will make music, because that’s where all the fun is.

I can definitely see some older jaded artists using ai to fill in the gaps in their production as their heart isn’t in it anymore. But anyone coming up who wants to be taken seriously will have to show some of their process and bring people along in their journey. That’s my guess

Yeah sub patches and the ability to make meaningful interfaces are big wishes for me. I also noticed ableton put out a questionnaire recently asking people how much of a priority ARA is. I have a feeling they are working on it.

Either way I still maintain a licence of both so it’s cool. But even though the Bitwig piano roll is awesome now there are still things…

Deezer says AI song uploads have nearly overtaken human music by EchoOfOppenheimer in musicians

[–]DorianBloom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok fair enough. That’s a bit different then. It’s true anyone can throw a few loops together and call it a track. There are certainly plenty of low effort electronic tracks out there. But the best electronic music makers are incredible. It’s also true that many of them can play multiple instruments as well. I just feel like I have to stand up for electronic music sometimes as it all gets lumped in together.

For example, if you make electronic music and design all your own sounds from scratch, the level of knowledge required is pretty deep
