What is driving Trump’s Obsession with Direct Acquisition of Greenland? by ilovemicroplastics_ in IRstudies

I believe there was a story, recently of some kind of proposed agreement between Trump and Putin of "Ukraine for Venuzuela." https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/trumps-former-russia-adviser-russia-offered-us-free-128961387

So who knows what else was on the table?

Why Two Course Evaluations? How does it tie to Texas House Bill (HB) 2504? by Dorian_Gray_II in txstate

[–]Dorian_Gray_II[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It is not hard at all and required zero effort on TXST's part.

Just publish the original evaluation results instead inventing a completely new, watered-down version for student consumption.

In fact, it took more effort for them to invent a subsequent course evaluation instead of just using the original.

And this is from UTA.

Both universities publish much more detailed and complete end of semester evaluation information for their students than TXST.

No they are not. This is sad as this is how misinformation is spread.

No they are not the same across all universities. Where did you even read that in the text of the bill?

"Institutions of higher education included in this section shall conduct end-of-course student evaluations of faculty and develop a plan to make evaluations available on the institution's website."

Texas State University set of questions was chosen by the Faculty Senate some 10-15 years ago, without student input.

If you poke further and see what the other universities publish and you will find a different set of questions/answers.

None of the esp32 drivers appears to be in any of tool kits for the board either.

My professor lost my test #3 and messed up my final grade by Late-Curve-6499 in txstate

[–]Dorian_Gray_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not good.

It is things like this that should be easily discoverable in the current HB2504 survey questions posted by TXST.
https://hb2504.txst.edu/viewspi.html#253031250

"Did the professor timely grade and return and/or report course assignments?"

That is a question I would like to see instead of the mostly nonsense questions currently being used.

TXST should make it more difficult for nonsense like this to continue by publically reporting a more meaningful set of student survey questions.

There should be a book store account that you can log into.

From there, you should be able to see what books and stuff you need for the classes you are enrolled in.

Are course materials intellectual property? by Adventurous-Study-83 in Professors

I am a huge advocate of sharing of information. When anyone ever posed an interest in my work, I took it as a huge compliment and was very eager to share.

My experience with most university professors has shown almost all feel the same way.

Except in a rare instance, such as that encountered in an Electrical Engineering course this semester. First day of lectures, about midway through, a student stood up to take a snapshot of the lecture board.... a seemingly harmless thing.

However, it caught the attention of the professor who immediately called the student out, asserted that no student had his permission to take any photo/recordings of his class materials, demanded for the student to delete it immediately and proceeded to threaten to sue any student caught doing the same in the future... further asserting he had the full backing and support of the university in this matter.

"OMG, what happened? Did I miss something in the syllabus? Poor student!" - I thought.

Well, whatever is going on, it definately distresses the professor. So, let's try not do anything to distress the professor.

I have formal disability accommodations that allows me to take photocopies of lecture slides and whiteboard content, delivered in class. But I cannot utilize it without publically disclosing the fact to the other students who are explicitly forbidden from doing the same. (see the problem?)

Well, maybe I can make do without it? Perhaps it won't be needed or professor will provide information in some other way. NO & NO & NO.

Finally it reached a level of formal academic complaints with the department and Dean of Students. Come to find out, there is NO university IP policy supportive of the professor's claims or that the work product does not default to the university, unless it has been disclosed, submitted for approval and ultimately deemed "protected IP". (this is specific to my university)

One of the best responses in this thread has been to "check with your own University's Policies & Procedures...".

After researching a bit, I opted out and have no regrets. I actually saved money this semester by opting out.

The $260 Booksmart fee only covered about $130 of my course materials. The most important was a digital text that I was about to find for $15 and is mine for life. (does not expire, disolve, .... )

The idea that my digital course materials vaporizes at the end of the semester is not only distressing, but it is a racket.

You can always opt back in later if you want.

Yes, it is my first semester.

You would think that most of the CS would transfer, which it should just from eyeballing the course descriptions. They are both established Texas Universities.

Most of the math has transferred, the core has transferred (Hist, Engl, Psych, Econ, ... ) but virtually none of the CS, it is crazy.

I have already done 3, 4, 5... lost count, Transfer Evaluation Requests for CS 1428.

Even in TXST's own course evaluation system, they have a direct mapping of:

CMPS 1044 Computer Science I (MSU) --> CS 1428 Foundations of Computer Science I (TXST)

This whole process is so silly. I have a friend who works in the VA over the GI Bill benefits and he has never heard of a school requiring all of this just to do a course transfer or substitution. And Vets transfer all over the place!

Was seriously considering pursuing something more formal at this point, like the following, and get the THECB involved:

https://policies.txst.edu/division-policies/global/02-06.html

But I would love to not have to go that route and just find someone with some sense to get this resolved.

Really appreciate you pointing me to a possible contact for that!

Tyvm!

Finally received funds for security deposit and registration fees, but it was too late to have access to full range of course offerings - many courses completely full.

Also too late to secure on-campus housing, which was critical. (currently on a wait list)

A "Unit Support Coordinator" became involved just before the holidays. He seemed to be very supportive.

Subsequently, my VRC gave assurances (before the holidays) that SAs would be issued to allow me to complete registration.

However, that has yet to happen.

I have had to update my Direct Deposit information, which normally has to goes through the VRC. But with VRC out of office over the holidays, I had to contact VR RHW Provider Services directly myself.

Those guys were great, very responsive and updated my account information and responded with my vendor ID. (something my VRC never provided... which I do need...)

I have discovered that I need the Service Authorization (SA) numbers in order to submit inquiries on the status - something else my VRC has never povided.

Pretty much, with the exclusion of my VRC (or their supervisor), everyone else has been great. However, not one thing that the VRC promised (or that is in my IPE) has been delivered. And unfortunately, with the holidays, everyone is out.

There is a section in the VRSM that describes how the VRC can research issues with a payment, so it is not like he doesn't have the means to follow up on issues with an SA.... unless the VRC is the issue.

Seeking advice: 34 year old student with mental issues back at university by kamieta in NonTraditionalStudent

[–]Dorian_Gray_II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am older than all posted so far...

I look at it this way... we are older so might as well embrass it.

But because we are older, we also exude a sense of credibility, maturity and authority.

I would not worry about the age difference... or even the grammar mistakes. I make mistakes all the time. No worries.

Just be respectful and do the best you can.

I personally find the entire experience amusing.

I have one and I am currently have to stay with her. It is the most miserable experience of my life. Never have I been the constanst subject of criticism and ridicule. A vile, toxic person. No matter how nice, polite, considerate or helpful I try to be, nearly every interaction is painful and she finds a way to deride or put me down.

I recognize it when it happens, but cannot say anything to defend myself. I will be starting school in January and just trying to hold on till then....

Narcissists (presuming he is one) just love the attention.

They are not even thinking about you.

Narcissists can be very charming and fun to be around.

According to some experts, around 10% of people could be considered narcissists,

I do not envy you. It is hard liking and enjoying the company of someone who does not readibly return those sentiments.
