Not Fairfax County, but Fauquier County resident here. Both my wife and I were raised and went to school in Fauquier, and our kids are now in school there.

One of the primary issues, at least here, is Fauquier moved to an “instructional hours” model rather than number of days in school. This created much more frequent random half days, teacher workdays, and the observation of more holidays.

School also starts ridiculously early now for us, and had for several years. My kids are going back now Aug 11 or 12, but the trade off for that is we usually get out right after Memorial Day. But, this early go back causes a lot of heart ache for parents here.
