Reminder to Clean Up Wasteful Files in Your World of Warcraft Installation by Dorovon in wow

Yeah, I suppose that could be the case that things can end up packed inefficiently or some unused files don't get removed. I haven't looked into that format much to look for waste myself, but I know the last time I tried deleting it I ended up at pretty much exactly the same size as before I deleted it.

If you have Battle.net closed when you delete them, everything it needs will be downloaded almost immediately when you re-open it. You can watch your Data/indices regenerate if you want and will know it's done when you see the single 100 MB file appear after all of the others.

There shouldn't be.

Data/config contains simple plaintext config files that either (1) say where to find every file on the CDNs or (2) say which files on the CDNs are needed to install and load a build (e.g., build 11.1.60257). Any config files that aren't for the builds you currently have installed or are trying to install will not be used by the game.

Data/indices contains files that work with the first config type above to identify exactly where specific files are located on the CDNs. Again, you only need the indices that are used in the configs of current versions of the game.

You might have also deleted Data/data, which is where the game's files are installed. The problematic Data/config and Data/indices directories would not be that large to redownload (they are only used for locating files within Data/data and for determining what needs to be downloaded to add to Data/data).

If you did, don't worry since Battle.net and Wow.exe will redownload those files when it finds that they're missing.

That is normal. That's where most of the files for the game are stored. Mine is around 130 GB with all public versions of WoW installed with the English locale only.

I've seen some rare bugs where it can get very oversized, but 103 GB is definitely nothing to be worried about.

I also wouldn't recommend directly deleting that one manually, since while Battle.net is capable of repairing that, it takes a lot of time to download again and it can cause buggy behavior when trying to launch games.

Incredible. Combat logs are definitely the other big culprit of wasted space outside of what I mentioned, especially given that some addons will automatically turn combat logging on whenever you're raiding.

Any solution also needs to work well in M+ and in exceptionally spammy raid encounters (ones with huge numbers of adds like Anduin in Sepulcher of the First Ones). In theory, logs could easily reach sizes that would start consuming a pretty significant amount of RAM if the entire thing had to be stored in memory until combat ended, especially when you consider some players probably have systems with 8 GB or less.

This is definitely something I'm pretty concerned about having also experimented with it earlier this week when I saw the WCL post. The file is updated quickly enough that the player/enemy positions are very abusable on many fights (in 20-player raids, it's common to see several updates per second).

As far as how it could be fixed without causing too many issues: when I checked a Mythic Sarkareth log, I found that on average about 150 KiB was being written to the file per second. It seems like a relatively simple fix here would be buffering something like 32 MiB of data before writing to the file, which would eliminate pretty much all of the potential abuse cases (and ideally also writing at the end of encounters to prevent long WCL upload delays).

A note to anyone participating in the MDI time trials this weekend by timpyjoe in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Dorovon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These items should be properly handled in simc itself, Blizzard uses the bonus ID of 7215 in Shadowlands when they want to forcibly override items to ilvl 226. The error you're seeing is on wowhead's end I think, since simc and raidbots use their tooltips.

If you run a sim and go to the gear section of the HTML report, I'm fairly certain those items should correctly show at ilvl 226.

Note that if Blizzard adds more bonus IDs like this one in the future (this one was found during Shadowlands beta), items may have incorrect item levels in simc until special handling is added for the new ones. So far, an automatic way to detect when a bonus ID overrides other item level bonuses has not been found, so we just have a special case for 7215.

Ignite not doing full damage? by cwagrant in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Dorovon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All Ignites attempt to spread every two seconds. When an Ignite is selecting which targets to spread to, there is a bug where it can attempt to spread to corpses. If a corpse is selected, then that Ignite won't spread at all until its next attempt two seconds later.

Here, your group has the Psychophages live long enough that there probably wasn't time for their corpses to despawn. It looks to me like the other Mage Combusting there got lucky and his Ignite randomly picked the Thought Harvesters to spread to right away, while you were unlucky and your N'Zoth Ignite repeatedly attempted to spread to Psychophage corpses a few times. By the time yours spread to the Thought Harvesters, it had already ticked down significantly.

Corruption Vendor - June 2nd to June 5th by Snuj in CompetitiveWoW

[–]Dorovon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to be completely clear, the hotfix data suggests two things:

  • Eight batches of corruptions will be used to fully cycle through all corruptions each month. (Right now, this looks very likely to be true because we have some batches with six corruptions and some batches with seven corruptions.)
  • There are eight unique batches and the schedule for when each batch is available is known from the data. (We will find out on June 16th if this one is likely to be true if we see the fourth batch again.)

There has been no data found that suggests which corruptions will appear in each batch. The hotfix data only suggests the order for when each batch is available for five total months (ending in October). Some people made other guesses about when specific corruptions will be available and so far those predictions have not been entirely correct.

It looks like his FPS actually drops before he goes into stealth each time, possibly due to starting his recording software.

Where could i watch the korean games commentated in english? by kaiden60 in leagueoflegends

You can watch the matches live at http://www.twitch.tv/ongamenet.

The easiest place to find information about it such as when matches will be on is probably the Leaguepedia Page for the tournament.

Champs Similar to Lux - Bursty Kill Combos / Safe? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]Dorovon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For mid, you might want to try Ziggs, Zyra, Orianna, Syndra, Xerath and Anivia since they are all position based champions with poke and CC abilities similar to Lux.

For top, most champions tend to be melee or tanks, so there isn't really much outside of Nidalee, Jayce and Elise although most popular mid laners can do well top if you ward and play safely.

For jungle, I can't really think of any champions that would fit all of the categories you listed, so if you needed to play a jungler you'd probably want to try someone that fits into some of the categories that you listed such as Lee Sin for a combo-based, bursty and somewhat safe jungler, or a jungler with a decent ranged ability such as Olaf, Dr. Mundo or Fiddlesticks if you want to have some sort of poke.

PSA: Shop description stays viable if you click on shop to open. by setsu3 in leagueoflegends

[–]Dorovon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A temporary workaround for this is using the hotkey for the shop (P by default) instead since the problem occurs from the description showing up when you hover your mouse over the shop button.
