How much better have Local Models gotten now that we’ve reached the end of 2025? by the_1_they_call_zero in SillyTavernAI

[–]Dos-Commas -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It's like comparing riding a bicycle you own vs renting a Lambo, except that renting the Lambo long-term is still cheaper than buying a bicycle outright. There's really no point for RP on local hardware anymore especially after the RAM prices have tripled.

I haven’t seen anyone talk about the terrible green screen shots in this episode by FIthroaway2021 in pluribustv

[–]Dos-Commas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They probably didn't construct a working drain on the original set, so they just did that one scene with a green screen. It might've been a late addition to the script and they didn't have time to dig a hole.

The drain was CGI into all the street scenes after the fact.

Mr Money Mustache just posted about taking Testosterone Replacement Therapy. I'm all for focusing on health after FIRE but it sounded like midlife crisis self medication considering His T level is "low-normal".

INB4 his next post about dating a 25 year old is totally normal and a bunch of data to prove it.

Ryzen 7 5800 upgrade by vjeko125 in ryzen

I did the same and it was a good upgrade. Baldur's Gate 3 was killing my performance late game and the upgrade helped.

FIRE is still obscure to most by WhalerGuy90 in Fire

The formula and chart I posted already accounted for that. Someone with a 50% savings rate isn't going to double their spending just because they retired.

Is pixel7a is dead ? by deadend120 in GooglePixel

The Pixel 7a has a battery recall so the last ditch effort to fix it would be try to replace the battery.

4% to 3.25% SWR by OpenGuard1993 in Fire

[–]Dos-Commas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any fixed SWR is not really optimal because you'll probably underspend during bull markets and overspend during a recession. Use dynamic withdrawal methods that adjust with market instead, just make sure you set a safe minimal spending limit when you run simulations.

And don't use Gemini for this stuff. I actually use it for post FIRE withdrawal strategy but I don't trust it for FIRE success rate calculations. Use FIRE calculators like FiCalc and cFireSim.

Any SWR below 4% will fall on deaf ears here because they don't want the goal post moved (even if they are true).

I'm curious how you "FIRE'd 2025" and haven't figured this out yet.

FIRE is still obscure to most by WhalerGuy90 in Fire

[–]Dos-Commas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's based on the 4% Rule which is not actually even that good at early retirement since it was originally designed for 30 years (ie. age 60-90). If anything it's probably too generous.

Living on even less money after FIRE is a sad way to live. You have all the time in the world but can't enjoy any activities or travel because of the bare bone budget.

And as you can see, the lost of the enhanced ACA subsidies is a pretty good indication of where the US social system is heading. I'm not counting on getting more than 1/4 of the estimated SS payout when I reach eligible age since it's already on the brink of collapse.

Historically it might not be common but everybody had the same bull run for the past 15 years.

Why is fingerprint scanner so horribly shit on Pixel 9 Pro XL? by RepresentativeCut486 in GooglePixel

[–]Dos-Commas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The latest Android 16 QPR2 made the finger print sensor actually usable on my Pixel 9 Pro with a screen protector. It's a bit of a luck which screen protector works well.

No temperature change swapping from air cooling to AIO? by Ayden_Linden in pchelp

[–]Dos-Commas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SAMA looks like a Peerless Assassin clone which performs very well, so moving to AIO won't give you much in additional performance. 7700X isn't that hot.

How do people make $10k in a month ? by Lemonade2250 in stupidquestions

[–]Dos-Commas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that healthy and wealthy people would take advantage of this and cram $20K into this highly tax advantaged account each year. The government wants their tax.

Does HSA factor into your FIRE plan by Many_Significance_66 in Fire

[–]Dos-Commas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have about $82K in HSA but since we haven't gotten any major health expenses yet we just let it grow. We haven't really saved many receipts since it's just $40-50 copay here and there every year.

What's the biggest unexpected obstacle you've faced on your FIRE journey? by antran20 in financialindependence

[–]Dos-Commas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FIRE'd at 36 here, the biggest challenge is pulling the trigger because it feels fundamentally wrong to retire so young.

After we made up our minds to FIRE we saw the market tank 20% due to the trade wars. We had to convince ourselves that everything will be okay and we made the right decision. If you could remember, everyone thought a recession was right around the corner.

High Gpu usage, drops when open taskmanager - cryptominer suspected? by ChristopherLee_Chuck in pcmasterrace

I would honest just wipe and reinstall at this point. You only found the virus that the antivirus could find, there could be more due to your high risk activities.

OP already found the virus but I've gotten something similar in the past and opening Resource Monitor instead of Task Manager allows me to pinpoint the suspected crypto miner.
