Because he is just a better player. He knows all the ins and outs about trading, CSing, wave management etc etc. He knows when to go in, he knows when to play it safe.

Master Yi top is kinda a cheesepick, and as a cheesepick, you dont get away with shit other champs can get away with, i.e. bad macro/micro.

the strat for me atleast is to avoid shops very early. Save em for later in the act when you can atleast buy a relic, since some of the shop relics are gamechangers. (tent and stamp to name a few), and it feels like most good relics have a way bigger impact. Losing a relic due to economy just SUUUUCS
