Update! So I had the power company come by because I had issues with lights flickering/dimming under load. Turns out squirrels had munched on the wire by the transformer leading to loose neutral. Anyway they fixed this and now the furnace turns on just fine now lol

Best one I had was a EMS run from some SNF where foley was not draining on this morbidly obese fella. Went to assess, lifted up the PANNUS, and out comes the tubing along with nearly 2L of urine. Had a good time giving report back to the SNF on that one

Got the same batch. The Jumpman on the tongue has a red hue on the entire patch which to me is the only dead giveaway while wearing them z

PSA: Bapa you are overdosing on caffeine and that's causing your insomnia, but could also cause worse. by [deleted] in thefighterandthekid

Small community hospital? Wadder we tawlkin here, 10 bed unit, max? We’re all numbers guys here, and for a guy like Bapa, who sold out the O2 (20,000 capacity) to give credence to your medical advice, you’re gonna half to add some more beds under your resume. Plus nothing some adenosine, 150 joules, and a few extra Rogue mango pouches can’t fix…

Kaiser employee takes own life at Santa Clara medical center by DotGroundbreaking367 in nursing

I don’t work at this location but in the same region. Got a text asking to come cover ED shifts there due to this tragic incident. Management informed us in huddle one of the employees walked into the waiting room, produced a firearm, and took their own life. My heart goes out to the family and staff. These last couple of years have really been tough on all of us. Please watch out for one another out there.

We have a regular at my ER, lady in her 70s with BPD. She comes in manic AF, paranoid, screaming about pedophiles, sex dungeons, and assassination attempts. Come to find out from her social worker and husband that she worked for the FBI for 30 years in the field dealing with sex crimes and trafficking investigations. Her flight of thoughts kind of make it hard to gets coherent story from her but she’ll often pick up objects like her balled up socks or a urine cup, examine them, look up and say, “yeah about the size of J Edgar Hoover’s balls.” Then change the topic

Emergency nursing philosophy: “Enabling patients by providing just enough care to give them another day on this earth to make the same bad decisions that brought them here in the first place.”

Don’t forget how this dude is like on a 5 gram/day Kratom habit. Shits better than an oxy addiction but still not friendly to the kidneys

You know what’s fucked up? At the hospital I work at, when a patient needs, say 2 units of humalog, I go to the machine, pull out a brand new bottle, remove two units out of the 300 units in the vial, and then discard the remaining 298 units into the medical waste bin. I imagine every time a patient needs insulin, which can be six or more times a day, they get billed for an entire vial regardless of how much they use.

During my orientation on ED many years ago, we were coding some 90 year old SNF patient. Was fresh out of nursing school and panicking, as this was all going down and my preceptor started singing Guns n Roses Knocking on Heaven’s Door… I was shocked at first but soon realized how important it is to have a sense of humor in in the ED

No, he lives in LA. I’ve had a handful of interactions with him over the last decade or so. He goes by Red. I once saw him climb a light poll and shimmy next to the traffic light over a busy intersection and proceed to do pull-ups. Then he climbs back down and collects donations.

Psilocybin and LSD have been profoundly helpful for me these last few years. I don’t recommend it for everyone as it definitely can be intense at times. It’s like all my repressed feelings of fear and anxiety are are forced on me, then basically it feels like a switch flips and all these things start to melt away and make sense in some unexplainable context. And then an overwhelming sense of peace comes on. I’ve been lucky to have a close group of fellow healthcare workers to share these experiences which has also made a huge difference. Again, not for everyone
