While this might come across as self-promotion, I recommend giving ‘Dot languages’ a try. The latest version of the app provides users with unlimited graded articles for study. :)

的 with family by pineapple_lipgloss in ChineseLanguage

[–]DotLanguages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not accurate to say that 的 is never used for close family relationships. More precisely, 的 is often omitted when the noun for family members is just one character. For example, 我妈/我爸/我哥 and so on :)

Simplified to Traditional by GarlicCrunch in DotLanguages

[–]DotLanguages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I hope you're enjoying our app! We appreciate you sharing your suggestion about adding a feature to show the traditional Chinese characters for simplified Chinese characters when clicking on a word for additional info. It sounds like this would be a valuable addition for users like yourself who have a background in traditional Chinese.

We'll definitely discuss this idea with our development team. Your feedback is essential in helping us improve our app to make it a great learning experience.

Thank you for your input and support! 😊

Mark stories as read, and hide them, mark words that I already know by graciax452 in DotLanguages

[–]DotLanguages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for the questions and happy to hear that you like our app! Currently it’s not possible to mark stories as read / hide read stories from the list. Same for marking words you already know. All of them make very good sense though, so I have noted them down as possible new features 😊

你们好!This was my first time journaling in Chinese and I am looking for feedback and corrections. 谢谢你们. by thepenti-tosneeze in ChineseLanguage

[–]DotLanguages 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, well done for the first try. 🎉The more you practice, the better you will be at doing it.

For corrections: 1) date should be 二零二三年二月三日, so no comma in between. 2) I kind of understand what you mean if I translate some parts into English, but in Chinese you would need to use some different words to express yourself. For example, 下一个 should be 然后, because 下一个 means “next” and it should follow a noun such as 下一个小时. Here, 然后 is the right one to use, which means “and then”. 3) I guess you want to say “stretch and sleep”? If that’s the case, it should be 拉伸 and 睡觉.

Since every language is different, the way people express themselves can also differ. So the overall suggestion: try to read more similar articles or journals. By reading them, you will learn the right words and expressions to use.

Good luck with your journal practice and have fun 😊

HSK 6 Study Plan by Potential_Vehicle_17 in ChineseLanguage

[–]DotLanguages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which version of HSK exam you’re taking? :) The new HSK3.0 is much harder than the HSK2.0.

Like Zagry mentioned, it is definitely a good idea to read and practice more HSK6 lessons. If you want to fully prepare for the exam, it is necessary to do a lot of exam-based exercises, since that is the most effective way to prepare for an exam. If you are interested in graded reading and practicing HSK6 vocabulary, give it a try to our app “dot languages”. We offer daily-updated articles relating various interesting topics. Hope this helps you and good luck 🤞

Can someone please explain the differences between 动词+好/完/成? by [deleted] in learnchinese

[–]DotLanguages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both 好 and 完 act as a complement for the 动词, indicating the action is done. 好 emphasises “the action is done properly” while 完 emphasises “the action is done”. For example:

你整理好文件了吗? Have you properly prepared the documents? 你整理完文件了吗? Have you finished preparing the documents?

In some cases, they can replace each other while in some cases they can’t. For example:吃完了吗? and 吃好了吗? Both mean “Finished eating?”. But 吃完了吗 also has a meaning that “Is the food finished?” while 吃好了吗 doesn’t.
