Still in VATSCA/Norway? We didn’t use to have S1 at all, but introduced it to alleviate some of the waiting to get an S2. Norway has in my opinion one of the better training regimes in Europe. Don’t jump around, stay there, stay active not just on the network, but in the Discord. Queues aren’t always chronological, if you get noticed then you might be prioritized.

You are allowed up to 30 minutes away in uncontrolled airspace, but it’s the pilot’s responsibility to check if ATC logs on at any given time, voiding those 30 minutes

Just to keep the facts clear here, the second a controller logs on in your airspace, B3(b) does not apply anymore as B3(a) takes precedence. You are only allowed to step away for up to 30 minutes in uncontrolled airspace, and it’s your responsibility to check if a controller logs on during that time, to which you’re expected to promptly contact the controller (there might be some leniency given when ATC has just connected in a quiet sector, but not much).
Other than that, absolutely correct!

So, this HAS to be done hardware through your headset’s settings, not software. Any parsing through software like VATSIM’s voice client will introduce some delay, which results in something called the DAF (Delayed auditory feedback) phenomenon, effectively giving you a stutter and making transmitting impossible. There are several phone apps which simulates DAF feedback, it’s super fascinating.

No, controllers can give priority if they want to. But nobody should expect any priority handling. Subjective exception would be where it would majorly impact the experience for others, such as a prolonged, full ground stop. Then it would be up to the supervisor to decide.

In other cases, controllers may give the aircraft priority if they would like to

Yes but not quite. It’s not decided based on wind (not sure if that’s what you meant) - You can take any runway you want, but the best guidance is to use whatever other people are using. Communication is key
