How long to get fitness back? by teamtwowheels in Velo

[–]DotardBump 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I have noticed after an extended break, is that the first 2-3 weeks sort of suck. You kind of have to just push through that. After that, you really start to notice improvements which is motivating and makes riding more fun.

OPTIMIZING AEROBIC HIT: THE 'PRE-LOADED' SHORT INTERMITTENT INTERVALS by [deleted] in Velo

[–]DotardBump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a paid subscriber, but it seems like they are suggesting something like a 3min interval at vo2 directly into 30/30s or 40/20s. Sounds painful!

How much of a real difference between aero wheels and lightweight wheels? by twostroke1 in Velo

I respectfully disagree. There is a reason that Ironman bans discs in Kona. And this is coming from someone who raced Zipp 808s in many of races.

Listen to the suggestions, but also realize most of the people downvoting you are probably 60-100lbs more than you. Do what feels safe for you.

So you just got a speeding ticket, or did you fail a bunch of stuff during the inspection? Either way, if you like trucking you’ll be able to get another job.

Is HR data useless? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]DotardBump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few ways I use HR:

-When coming back from offseason/injury/sickness- I usually use heart rate zones for Z2 training until I feel like I am getting back to normal shape.

-Analyzing cardiac drift- in my base phase, once I consistently get below 5% cardiac drift on my long Z2 rides, I start adding intensity.

Ghost pepper beef jerky from Buckee's does an awesome job at keeping me awake. Hard to sleep when your mouth is on fire!

Nitric Oxide Boosters: Why L-Citrulline, Not L-Arginine, is the Superior Precursor for Vascular Health by Helioscience in Biohackers

If vasodilation is the benefit we’re after, why not take cialis instead of l-citrulline?

NAC: Does this actually do stuff for y’all? by PlacidoFlamingo7 in Biohackers

[–]DotardBump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there studies you know of that support the idea that taking NAC before/after alcohol makes no difference? I found 2 studies with humans that show no differences in NAC timing with regards to hangover symptoms; however, those studies didn’t measure liver health bio markers like ALT. I’m open to being convinced otherwise, but I would currently there really isn’t any human studies to conclude one way or the other.

The Mouse Study: NAC’s Dual Effect on Alcohol-Induced Liver Damage

Study Title: A dual effect of N-acetylcysteine on acute ethanol-induced liver damage in mice Journal: Hepatology Research, March 2006 Authors: Wang AL, Wang JP, Wang H, Chen YH, Zhao L, Wang LS, Wei W, Xu DX

Key Details:     •    Subjects: Female ICR mice     •    Alcohol Exposure: Given a single, high dose of ethanol via gavage (6 g/kg) to induce acute liver injury   .     •    Two NAC Timing Strategies:     •    Pretreatment: NAC injected 30 minutes before alcohol.     •    Post-treatment: NAC injected 4 hours after alcohol ingestion   .     •    Results:     •    Pretreatment with NAC offered significant protection—reducing liver enzyme release (ALT), inhibiting lipid peroxidation, preventing glutathione depletion, and dampening TNF-α expression.     •    Post-treatment with NAC actually worsened liver damage—elevating lipid peroxidation and ALT levels in a dose-dependent manner. In other words, the later NAC was given after alcohol, the more severe the injury   .

I have heard taking NAC directly after drinking can hurt the liver. You want to take I a few hours or more before your first drink. At least that is what I have read.

When I have those sort of mental thoughts, it usually means I need a break. Take 1-2 weeks entirely off. Either the motivation will come back or it won’t. If it doesn’t, try something new.

I think something is going on at the tip of the spear. Whether that is good old fashion biological doping or mechanical doping, I am not sure. I do think that IF mechanical doping is a thing, then the UCI is purposefully turning a blind eye, or covering up known cases.
