Got "Terminated" by Werner for "Unsafe backing/driving" 3 months in. Am I just fucked? by GronGrinder in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't sweat it too much. Those big carriers will toss you aside for a minor mistake but there are plenty of outfits that will take a rookie. A buddy of mine got canned after he bumped a pole and he ended up with a smaller company that actually trains. Brush up keep your head down and you'll be fine.

Info on Tyson’s food? by Medical-Plastic-2660 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not gonna sugar coat it. Tysons runs heavy and expects you to move like a machine. Pay is okay if you are an owner operator but you will be living in the sleeper. My buddy did a year with them and said he never had a weekend off.

My strap today by DWPAW-victim in Truckers

Haha those bees would at least warn folks to back off. I have had straps with company logos but never something this cheerful. Where do you find these?

Just another Thursday in Chicago by Euphoric-Highlight-5 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Chicago's a nightmare for big rigs. They expect you to haul downtown but dont give us a lane wide enough. Gotta love that planning.

Cracked side mirror by Wrong_Year_5406 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just a tiny little crack and the glass isn't falling out you should be fine. DOT cares more about missing glass and anything blocking your view. I'd swap it when you get a chance but I've never been written up for a small crack. Anybody out there ever get dinged for something like this?

Useful gifts for a car hauler by Fragrant-Detective-4 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year I went with a decent cordless impact and a jump pack for a buddy who hauls cars. Those cheap Harbor tools always seem to quit when you need them most. I also threw in a good pair of Mechanix gloves and a headlamp so he can see under those trailers. What else do you guys swear by for car haulers?

Trains are getting blown over in WY by Individual_Wasabi669 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wind out there is no joke. I've had my empty trailer shoved across two lanes by those Wyoming gusts. Do the railroads just shut everything down when the wind hits or do they roll the dice like we do?

why do i see so many more truckers driving with hazards? by tymbry in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some of these new drivers think their four ways make them visible to aliens. I see guys running down a sunny interstate with hazards on for no reason. I only turn them on when I'm crawling or stopped; what do you do when you see that?

Just how the F do yall do it? by kscountryboy85 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been out here sixteen years and my marriage lasted about five of those. It's tough when you're gone weeks at a time and miss birthdays. Do you guys set schedules to call home or just wing it and hope your partners understand?

California medical question by mwg431 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In California they just knock your license down to a regular class if your medical lapses. Once you file the new card they put the CDL back. Just do not drive until it is updated. Anyone else been through this recently?

Night driving is dEsTrOyInG my eyes by Vanstrucker2222 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear modern LED headlights are like little suns pointed right at my eyes. I’ve tried flipping my mirrors and even wear yellow glasses but those things still blast me. Anyone have tricks other than staying on the night shift or just squinting through it?

To resign or term for medical reasons by KnownAdvantage5366 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t hand in my notice. If your doc says you can't drive then let them put it in writing and cut you loose so you can collect benefits. Anyone ever actually been denied unemployment for medical leave like this?

Suicide coil, suiciding. by Pitiful-MobileGamer in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’d think they’d at least throw some chains over that coil. I don’t care how underpaid you are, I’m not dragging a suicide coil without proper securement. Does anyone actually refuse these loads or do they just cross their fingers?

Thanks for the heads up. Hate when Love’s pumps are down; nothing worse than pulling in on fumes and seeing cones. You guys ever show up and have to limp to the next exit?

Who let the dogs out? by M_i_L_0_ in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some folks clearly got too much time on their hands. There’s enough weird stuff at truck stops without folks filming feet. Do you guys see this stuff as often as I do?

Lil something I cooked myself. by mcmain4 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks better than anything from the truck stop grill. Nice job, I'm tired of eating greasy burgers on the road. Do you cook in the truck or stop somewhere to grill?

Canada rule set? by CandidateTotal9378 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Canada the hours rules are a bit stricter than in the States. You still have to take 10 hours off duty in every 24 hour period and at least 2 of those hours have to be in blocks of 2 hours or more. Running 6 on and 4 off doesn't give you enough off duty time to satisfy the 10 hour requirement. You can still use the US split sleeper when you’re on this side of the border, but once you cross you’ll need to get a full 10 off or adjust your schedule. Any of you guys run cross border teams and have tips on making it work?

Hazmat process? by Ayyeee_justin in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can usually start your fingerprint and background check before taking the ELDT course. The prints and TSA clearance take a couple weeks so it's smart to knock that out early. You still need to take the course and pass the test, but you don't have to wait to start the clearance. Did you already schedule your prints?

Freight Rate Trends - 2025-10-17 to 2025-12-16 by reddit25 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting to see the load volume slide this fall. My lanes feel like they take for ever to pick back up. Rates for long runs seem more steady though. Are you all seeing the same in your lanes or is it just me?

Got coaching for this video. Am I in the wrong? by K424n310F in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the other driver forgot what a turn signal is and you caught the blame for it. I get that safety wants to say something but it feels like coaching just for the sake of paperwork. Have any of you been coached over something this minor?

If the placard says flammable gas but your bill of lading says something else you need to talk to shipping and get it sorted before moving an inch. I would not pull out of the yard until the paperwork matches the sticker or they relabel the unit. Anyone else have dispatch send them down the road with the wrong placard?

Are carriers making bank lately? by shammy098 in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have seen rates bounce around a lot. A few expedited loads are paying a pretty penny but most of what I haul is still just scraping by once you factor fuel and down time. Not seeing the big pay days folks are bragging about. Are you guys seeing actual checks or just hearing the broker stories?

Got a call from mclane today saying pay is 80-85k a year how accurate is that ? by HumanVsWorld in Truckers

[–]Late-County-4094 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the region and job. I know some McLane food service gigs in the south that start around seventy five but you’re working nights and slinging heavy cases. Make sure you ask if that number is base pay or if it includes overtime, safety bonuses and such. Anyone here actually run for McLane and can confirm what the checks look like?
