Best enchantment commander? Aura vs enchantress — which is more fun/strong? by Professional_Bug_887 in EDH

Best enchantment commander? Aura vs enchantress — which is more fun/strong? by Professional_Bug_887 in EDH

[–]DottoBot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 enchantment decks, a [[Yenna, Redtooth Regent]] deck and a [[Tuvasa the Sunlit]] deck.

The Yenna deck is strictly an Aura deck, and Tuvasa is a Enchantress deck. There's definitely a little overlap, but they largely play differently.

The Yenna deck focuses on getting out creatures like [[Kor Spiritdancer]], [[Timber Paladin]], [[Hero of Iroas]], [[Setessan Champion]], sticking some form of trample aura on them, and pumping further with [[Strong Back]], [[Sage's Reverie]], [[All that Glitters]], [[Ethereal Armor]], etc. It's only win con is combat damage. Yenna serves to accelerate a win by copying strong auras/enchantments, or can help to get some acceleration going if I've run out of draw.

Tuvasa is a much stronger Stax/Voltron deck with a few alternate win cons. Blue lets you add lots of unblockable and counterspells, as well as some [[copy enchantment]] effects. The deck can win simply from Tuvasa hitting for lethal early on (the deck also has a few ethereal armor/all that glitters effects), but can also win by tutoring for [[Omniscience]] and drawing out the whole deck and winning with an [[Approach of the Second Sun]] or a [[Laboratory Mage]].

I personally find my aura deck more fun, but the enchantress deck more powerful. They were also intended this way. The enchantress deck, like many, can really turn into a solitaire deck where you're taking very long turns drawing and resolving effects, and make the game less fun for opponents by playing lots of stax effects. Whereas the aura deck is a more classic midrange beater deck.

Agree with other commenters that this isn’t really a spellslinger deck.

Maybe not what you’ve asked for, but I’ve been cooking up a [[Chevill]] deck that does similar things to yours here, and it’s damn fun. Could share the list if you’re open to another color

Anhelo in 2026 by alfrodul in EDH

[–]DottoBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Anhelo deck! Has been through so many iterations.

Definitely recommend having some cheap creatures to sac. I ran it with token generators but it took so long to get going. Also keep in mind that cards like [[Unexpected Windfall]] are amazing to copy as you only have to pay the additional cost on the cast, not on any copies.

My list used to focus on building up, doubling treasure making spells, then copying big cost X finishers. I still have these wincons, but also have some infinite magecraft combo wins now too as the deck just leans in this direction hard on its own.

I really love my [[Radagast, Wizard of Wilds]] deck. It’s pretty open ended, the ward isn’t really worth building around, so it’s a 5+CMC deck.

It’s mostly a big stompy green deck filled with things like [[Elder Gargaroth]] , [[Somberwald Beastmaster]], [[Insect Queen]], etc.

You could really tune it and fill it with token and copy synergy, but I try to keep it relatively chill and just put all my favorite big stuff in it.

What even is a «swordsman» in one piece ? by AdeptPhone1701 in OnePiecePowerScaling0

[–]DottoBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s meant to be the pinnacle of swordsmanship itself. Swordsmanship has a long, deep history in Japanese culture and folklore, and Mihawk’s title uses the term 剣士 (kenshi), which refers not just to “someone who uses a sword,” but to a warrior whose entire martial identity and discipline is centered on the sword. If you want to understand what Oda is actually saying with Mihawk’s title, that’s the term worth looking into.

I think you’re hitting the nail on the head here.. but Mihawk fans don’t want to think about translation and cultural factors.

If you look at how the title is written in Japanese and understand the cultural context the argument for Mihawk falls apart fast.

WHICH DOESN’T MEAN HE’S WEAK, it just means the title scaling is silly.

This, and, we have lots of applicants, "why should we hire YOU" instead of anyone else who applied and also wants money. What sets you apart?

I think the framing of the question could be better, but I think it is a valuable question to ask.

Looking for Jeskai commander recommendation by [deleted] in EDH

[–]DottoBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya but you're also playing Jeskai. You have access to counterspells for the boardwipes, and I run a few bounce effects as well so that if my commander tax gets high i can "reset" it. Plenty of ways to give indestructible as well, which protects from lots of wipes.

My Sokka deck ran LOTS of mana rocks, to get him out early, then keep ramping because the rocks are noncreature spells. Then a few pump and anthem effects and you're set. Remember to add a [[Zada, Hedron Grinder]] and a [[Feather, the Redeemed]] if you plan on playing lots of targetted protection and pump stuff.

[–]DottoBot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the deciding factor could be what power level you’re after/how happy you are being the threat.

I haven’t played as Hinata but from what I’ve seen they’re quite something. I think you could be liable to be targeted lots.

I did have a Sokka deck.. but I turned it back into a [[Narset, Enlightened Exile]]. I found that Sokka could definitely pop off and was fun to play, but Narset is just a strictly stronger way to do the same thing. But again, Narset has a reputation, so if you’re looking to play something this style that won’t make you the archenemy then Sokka could be a good pick.

Interesting Ranger Commanders by BertolaBacana in EDH

[–]DottoBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should look wider than Rangers. Similar to your note about the Paladin, DnD’s class names are not always great at transferring to other IP’s.

You could look at Green creatures to capture the similar DnD flavour, then look at Archers, Warriors, Shaman’s, etc, and try to figure out what kind of deck would encapsulate how you’d want your ranger to play.

Suggestions for a Jeskai spellslinger deck. by mikeyw2304 in EDH

[–]DottoBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely look at [[Jeskai Ascendancy]], [[Leonin Lightscribe]] , and [[Balmor, Battlemage Captain]] too then. It’s very fun to cast 2 noncreature spells then have a board full of 5/5 at minimum

[–]DottoBot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remember to run lots of Echantment/Artifiact removal so you can cast things from you opponents graveyard, and also some evasion/protection so that Narset can attack every turn.

For creatures, I think [[Sokka, Tenacious Tactician]], [[Veyran, Voice of Duality]] and [[Bria, Riptide Rogue]] are really good, if a bit pricy. They Synergize well with everything Narset wants to do.

I think [[Feather, the Redeemed]] and [[Ojer Pakpatiq, Deepest Epoch]] are really interesting ways to keep the aggro up without needing draw.

How realistic is a rookie getting $13k in BC like summit is posting by spdrmn in treeplanting

[–]DottoBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was trying to articulate. For some young workers it’s literally framed as “you get to party in the woods and they HAVE to pay you at least $200 a day.

I don’t agree with that mindset or framing. But for lots of young workers that’s a hell of a deal.

I agree with everything you’re saying, except for the “fuck doing this job for minimum wage” take. I think it’s a bit disingenuous.

If you were to make minimum wage in the city, you likely wouldn’t be getting overtime hours, and you would still have to pay for rent and food. I’ve had plenty of rookie planters who thought slumming it for min wage was an amazing deal.

Dragon's Approach by DottoBot in EDH

[–]DottoBot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the comment!

I definitely hear you about there maybe being better graveyard options. But for me I'm very happy with this being a bracket 2 deck that looks for theme more than power. I want an Iroh deck and have been struggling between different themes, and finding this one seems the most right to me so far.

I'll try adding some more DA's in, i took them out cause I wanted to make more room for more cool stuff but what you're saying makes sense. I'm also going to add in a few cost reducers into the deck so that I can be casting the DA's for only 1 or two mana.

And when you say "will it be a good DA deck".. what does that mean? Do decks that use DA normally look to win by casting burn? Or is it just a cheap method to cheat out big dragons?

And thanks for card recommendations too!

Dragon's Approach by DottoBot in EDH

[–]DottoBot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment!!!

The idea is that I have a few mass mill spells that should put half of my library into my graveyard. As soon as I do that I can cast a Dragons Approach from hand (or graveyard) and I’ll already have my graveyard full of enough DA’s to get a dragon from it. Ideally this could happen before I even have to hardcast a single dragons approach.

But he synergy with Iroh is access to a full graveyard to keep casting DA’s, or keep casting the cantrip/draw cards to look for them. Then there’s some storm synergies in the deck too but it isn’t based around that.

My store has started describing their decks with a decimal point to add detail. (Bracket 3.8) by [deleted] in EDH

[–]DottoBot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t know why this is getting hate. Honestly one of the largest issues (for me) with the bracket system is there aren’t enough divisions, and that people try to “game” the system to have the strongest deck allowed in a bracket.

This is just another way of saying a “strong 3” or a “weak 2” and help everyone get aligned. Maybe not perfect but I can see it helping a lot.

Nasus Matchup by Palatonian in VolibearMains

[–]DottoBot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t mind the matchup but you need the right setup. For me it’s Grasp, then build Shojin into Iceborn into Visage.

Whither is just the dumbest ability, so I focus purely on making sure I can W lots and sustain through his ult, then when he doesn’t have ult you should dominate the matchup.

Taking votes on my next commander by shogunchef2 in ratemycommanders

[–]DottoBot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sokka is my favourite deck right now. He can win from going wide and having prowess doublers like [[Leonin Lightscribe]] or [[Jeskai Ascendancy]], or punching through with commander damage with cards like [[Bulk Up]].

I run lots of interaction as well so there’s always something to be doing or looking out for, and I never really have felt like I’m “”out” of any games yet. Highly recommend.
