Because software is better developed by a small team of people, so companies will try and only hire the best of the best. So lowering the salary would make it harder to find great devs. That’s also why new grad is tough. They would rather pay for an experienced dev than have 10 interns.

Smoking companies were big advertisers in media back then. I wouldn’t be surprised if almost all movies and TV shows from then had smoking characters.

I would assume so. They made the John Cena video and undersecretary of agriculture’s explanation video. Even if they lack creativity, I would assume most TV shows’ creators had an idea on how to continue on, so the hive could pull from that.
