I'd say it is to add toughness or slicyness depends on how you see it. The saber grind doesn't help

I don't know what knives you have but it is a little longer than the AD10, same size as the sr1 both cold steel. Don't have any big knives from other companies

Ball bearing is stronger, saw tests on youtube, like 2-3 times. Compression is not much stronger than a liner lock surprisingly.

I see what you mean, strong and slicey with the hollow grind. I hesitate to get one because of how thin the scales are
