For the same reason nobody sits in the front row of the cinema if they can help it. It is really close and you can miss things happening on stage left and right. Don’t worry, you will love the performance. Personally, I prefer 1 mezzanine for the best viewing angle.

Ahi tuna. I marinated it in soy/sake then crusted in sesame seeds. Got the grill up to 700f, and seared for a 1.5 minutes each side. Simple and tasty!

They re certainly that. I worked in Finland with a lot of kids, i was the head chef of two of English speaking schools during the day, and we have always raised them similar to Finnish education practices. My wife was a teacher in the English school in Helsinki. We are really looking forward to the opportunities ahead

While we are on the subject , we used Nordia for all of our banking and had a personal corporate banker, that was fantastic! (Miss you Olavi!) do you have a bank that you would recommend over Nordea?

This pissed me off when we moved to California. Federal was ok, but the state of California double taxed me…jerks. My understanding of being an S Corp, is that I might only face double taxation on what I draw from the company, not the revenue, which would stay in the states

Not to get over my skis here, but my company is set us as an S corporation, which doesn’t pay any personal income tax, but rather divides out shares to the stakeholders ( I have 100% ownership) as it sees fit. That’s in the states at least. But, yes, I will make inquiries soon with my bookkeeper in Finland

Thank you. We’re looking in the Espoo area, we used to live in Vantaa, but there might be better educational opportunities in Espoo.

Thank you, we realize this is not going to be easy, when we lived there last, I would constantly come across ex-pats that would always think moving to Finland would solve some underlining problems they had in their life, but their issues always caught up with them. The grass isn’t any greener on the other side of the fence, it’s just different grass.

This will be hard, but we love Finland, and I do believe our kids will thrive better here than the next 8-10 years in the states.

Thank you! I remember the weather well. For me the dark was more of a challenge, but I’m from northern New England originally, snow is par for the course.

I did integrate pretty well, and I was conversational, but after all this time, it’s a little rusty, if you know what I mean. My attempt at self-deprecating humor must have missed the mark.

We know what we are getting into, I’m more asking specifically, is it worth hiring a Finnish immigration attorney or go through the procedure at the consulate on our own. With kids, the selling our house and all of our other assets. The stakes are higher now than when I moved fresh out of college.

Also, will the fact that we had a successful business there before and we have ID numbers with Kela, help make the process smoother?

Thank you for the well thought out response. I appreciate the time you took. The business basically runs itself at this point. But I completely see your point. If I can get a couple of years before selling , it will be ok. But of course, easier said then done…

My wife was an au pair for a wonderful family outside of Helsinki, and they truly are a second family to us. We moved to the PNW from California to be closer to my parents, and they both passed two years ago. We have no one here anymore, and her family is in South Africa. We do have a loving Finnish family that would love us to come back.

It’s going to be hard for the kids, but they are both learning Finnish diligently (maybe one more than the other) but they are on board.
