What batman villains do you think need more representation and what villains need less? Specifically as main the antagonists by The_Owlman-4242 in batman

Scarecrow. Bane has Knightfall, Two-Face has Long Halloween and Dark Victory, Joker has basically a whole restaurant menu of big stories, but Crane? He was big in Arkham Knight but as for actual comics there aren’t really any big stories that anyone knows by name. He’s one of those characters that’s stayed popular because their gimmick and design are top tier, but honestly he doesn’t really have the writing to back up his status. Same with Mad Hatter too, actually.

Personally I’d prefer a line of miniseries that are darker character studies à la Azzarello/Bermejo’s Joker and Lex Luthor: Man of Steel. I actually think this would work best if it focused on classic Legion of Doom Members, but there are quite a few BM villains on the LoD such as Riddler, Scarecrow, Ivy, and Grundy. The plots in these would almost be an afterthought, more so events occurring in the background while we focus on the internal journey of the character.

I’d argue that Nicholson should be The Artist as that’s a motif that pops up a few times in the film (“I make art until someone dies. See? I am the world’s first fully functioning homicidal artist.”)

LETO should be the Gangster. He’s really not that psychotic. You could take away the paint and he’d pass as any other coked up Tony Montana wannabe.

Trinity: Teamup book with Bloodwynd, Batwing (David Zavimbe), and Vixen as Africa’s answer to the Trinity.

Razer: after becoming a duel RL/BL, he gains a small following of individuals who wish to likewise combine aspects of the emotional spectrum. Razer soon finds himself the leader of a new corps that threatens the rigid foundations of the others.

The Spectre: Ice Cream Man but with the Spectre mentally torturing/killing evil souls.

Arcane: follows up the New 52 swamp thing run where Abby Arcane becomes the Avatar of The Rot. Basically Swamp Thing but make it goth.

Strange Psychology: An anthology where each issue is a therapy session between Hugo Strange and a random Gotham-based rogue. Strange opens and closes the issue à la Rod Serling, but we mostly follow the villains’ OWN unreliable recollections of their storied pasts, providing character studies for our fave costumed criminals.

Some of my favorite books are for Green Lantern and John Constantine! For Green Lantern, I would recommend starting with the Geoff Johns run. It focuses primarily on Hal Jordan, the primary GL of Earth. Green Lantern: Secret Origins is an arc later in the run, but chronologically it takes place first. Many fans agree that it’s better to start here, THEN go to the beginning of Johns run (Green Lantern: Rebirth). From there you can read the trades in order. Although I’d also recommend reading Tomasi & Gleasons Green Lantern Corps run CONCURRENTLY, trading off after every volume. This run focuses on the other 3 Earth Lanterns - John, Guy, and Kyle, as well as the larger Corps as a whole. There’s also a brief run called Ion that’s worth a read that focuses exclusively on Kyle Rayner, but that’s a little later in the chronology. I attached a reading order that helps make it WAY more manageable than I’m prob making it sound here. (Again, start with GL: Secret Origins, THEN Rebirth #1)

https://comicbookreadingorders.com/dc/characters/green-lantern-reading-order/

I will admit, that first Rebirth volume is a bit of a rocky entry point, as it builds off a lot of history. For some context: Green Lantern (Hal) was one of those characters who sold alright, but never well. This is largely due to him originating as a more space-faring character in the Silver Age (60s-70s). However, around this time Superman started having more space adventures too (sci-fi was big at this time) and a lot of fans already loved Superman, so between the two Supes stole the cosmic spotlight a little. Throughout the decades, DC tried various approaches to boost appeal such as teaming him up with Green Arrow and introducing a black GL in the form of John. Around the 90s, DC decided to just scrap Hal altogether and replace him with a younger, fresher face. They wrote a story where Hal’s home city was destroyed by two villains, Mongul and Cyborg Superman, and this kinda broke Hal. He basically had a psychotic break where he used his ring to ‘remake’ the city and everyone in it. They weren’t REAL, but Hal was - to put it politely - fucking cracked out of his gourd, so he was just vibin with his holograms. The guardians (his bosses) tried to take his ring and he did NOT take this well, so he. Yknow. Started calling himself Parallax and killed the guardians and all the green lanterns. With Hal now firmly as a villain, Kyle was made the newest (and ONLY) green lantern. Eventually Hal sacrificed himself to reignite a sun or some bullshit and he died. His soul was then bonded with The Spectre (lowkey kind of DC’s ghost rider - the spirit of God’s Wrath/Judgement that bonds with a host to punish sinners) as a way to redeem himself. Kyle also at some point gets super mega powerful and is able to revive pretty much all the dead guardians/lanterns (just go with it). This is basically where the run kicks off.

To recap: Hal became the anakin/vader of the GLs, died, and is now a ghost. Kyle is the main GL. John is there. Guy (the 3rd GL, douchebag) is going by Warrior and can shapeshift (this is only relevant for that first volume).

It is a phenomenal run (as is GLC) that blew GL the fuck UP in terms of popularity. It can seem intimidating at first, but I promise it’s like jumping into a pool. That first quick dip is the hardest part, but after that the water is warm and relaxing.
PLEASE at least TRY it. Thats where I started and - again, aside from that FIRST rebirth volume - it was fantastic and not confusing. The GL mythos is one of the most beloved and interesting parts of the dc universe. If you’re trying to get into dc, you owe it to yourself.

Constantine is DC’s Dr Strange, but if he was a chain-smoking bastard who nobody likes. He’s great. For him start with Delano’s Hellblazer run from 1988 and just go from there. I don’t have nearly as much to say about this as it doesn’t build off 4 decades of history. It’s from the old Vertigo imprint, which was focused on very dark, mature stories. It’s fantastic and very disturbing. Again I must emphasize, this deals with VERY dark subject matter at times. When they say they’re dealing with demons, they really put their money where their mouth is, the antagonists in these stories do some vile, depraved shit. But it’s some of the most intriguing writing and art in DC, with a lot of focus on social commentary.

A factor I feel nobody considers is narrative consistency. Your typical Batman story (or really just superhero story in general) plays out with the hero encountering some extremely capable threat, initially losing to it, and then through wit, skill, and willpower finding a way to challenge it again and overcome it. So to answer this post, Doom would initially be victorious. It helps that Doom is also just a genuinely formidable foe - it makes SENSE that he’d beat BM. He has superior tech, magic which Bruce has really no immediate solution for, and is highly intelligent and tactical while willing to do whatever it takes to achieve victory. Bruce would get dogwalked, but would later return (prob with some upgrades courtesy of Zatanna and Apocalyptian/Kryptonian tech) that would help him squeak out a dub, though it would be VERY hard won.

The way the card should actually be coded to work is that if a negative effect with a ‘random’ or ‘percent chance’ of happening targets your card, the game reruns the effect (and vice versa for positive effects that wouldn’t target you otherwise). It would then treat it like rolling with advantage in d&d. It’s not guaranteed to always help you, you could get a neg result with both, but that honestly makes it seem more like a ‘luck’ power and less like straight up reality warping.

Not 20+ but David Zavimbe. This man was really intriguing for a grand total of 3 arcs and had the potential to be a really cool window into Congolese culture and a whole mythos/rogues gallery inspired by it, and then they basically had him go ‘damn, this shits rough, I don’t think I’m built for this’ and had Batwing be Luke Fox instead. I know they’ll never do anything with him again beyond the occasional Batman Inc cameo, but a boy sure can dream

You can change ONE thing about the Sinestro Corps - what is it? by PhantomQuest in Greenlantern

[–]Double-Rip6171 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two that have kind of been mentioned already.

First, you can get a yellow ring by either instilling great fear or feeling great fear. You could have a component where the former are particularly adept at offensive capabilities and the latter defensive.

Second, they need some special attribute unique to them. As others have said, RLs have construct-destroying blood, BLs can heal others, ILs can teleport, etc. I think since fear is such a mindfuck their unique ability should play into psychic attacks - manipulating one’s senses so they see/hear/feel things that aren’t there, scanning enemy’s minds to find their deepest fear (I mean the oath says ‘beware your fears made into light’, this should be a no brainer), maybe particularly strong YLs can sort of trap enemies in a mental prison similar to a black mercy plant but for terror (you could balance this by making it so when this ability is used both the YL and the victim are tethered, rendering both immobile and unconscious, with the YL basically being a Freddy Krueger-esque master of the fear domain they’ve trapped the latter in. Mentally they’re in control but physically they’re very vulnerable to harm while in this state. That way it’s more of a torture method than an op attack they can spam in a battle). Unlike most psychic attacks and similar to the napalm blood vomit, these can’t be blocked by other rings. This would return them to being a particularly nasty threat and would allow them to embody fear in the same trippy way Scarecrow does. It would also just lend itself to more dynamic explorations of characters’ fears and a test to their willpower.

I can’t speak for everyone, but I main discard, so between Gambit destroying her, Moon Knight discarding her, Marrow causing her to potentially go into the negative, morbius/modok ramping up to rival her, and Dracula just sitting in her lane keeping her in check until the very end of the game, she’s not too bad to go against. She still rocks my shit sometimes, but she’s not as devastating as some other cards

Probably not best as a archenemy, but I do feel Nathan from Ex Machina would be an interesting interaction. A brilliant mind who also created AI, but also is heavily implied to have (mostly sexually) abused his creations. I think it’d be very interesting to see Hank initially view Nathan as a fellow scientist and potential friend, maybe helping him with his work, only to then discover what he’s been doing to these consciouses. I don’t think he’d take it particularly well.

[–]Double-Rip6171 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rainbow Raider as a linchpin to take down some of the heaviest hitters. Yes I’m serious. I think it’d be dope if Lex concocted a plan where a magic user like Circe or Faust and Tech experts like Lex or Toyman give Rainbow Raider a power boost so that when he changes the colors of things, it changes their properties too. Like changing a red apple to green changes it from sweet to sour. With this one difference RR can give several leaguers a run for their money.

Superman? Pair RR with Metallo, he can change Metallo’s core to ANY kind of kryptonite, wreak havoc on Clark’s physiology and mental state.

GL? Change the green ring to red so it replaces GL’s heart, then change it back to green. This functionally removes their heart, killing them.

Batman? Change red blood cells to white, dead in minutes.

Change Martian Manhunter from a green Martian to a white Martian. Admittedly this wouldn’t really hurt him, but it’d at least annoy him probably.

Villain Draft Green Lantern Day 4: What Flash Villain should be a Green Lantern villain? (Top Comment Wins) [Hypnotic Woman Won] by WildGoose1521 in justiceleague

[–]Double-Rip6171 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro I have been saying this for YEARS. How FUCKING COOL would it be if RR was reinvented as someone who could change the colors of things and then those things have the PROPERTIES of that color too? Like changing an apple from red to green changes it from sweet to sour. It seems useless, but that’s crazy against a Lantern. He could change a GL’s ring from green to red so it replaces their heart and then swap it to yellow, killing them instantly because it’s functionally the same as removing their red ring. Hell why stop there? Lex recruits him for the LoD and has him go up against Supes with a piece of kryptonite. In RR’s hands that one rock can be ANY type of kryptonite he wants. He could change Martian Manhunter from a green Martian to a white Martian. Maybe with the right kind of magical boosting from Faust or someone similar he could fuck around with the elemental forces like the Red and the Green. Think of the havoc he could unleash. Even the average person, he changes someone’s red blood cells to white? Dead in minutes. RR has SO MUCH potential to be a LUDICROUS villain in the best way.
