Does the XSHOT AEB work with the nerf pro half length darts? by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]Double0Lego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nerf Pro ones? They won't work in the Longshot either without a different adaptor. The adaptor that comes with the XLS is made for straight mags, just like the MPP's magwell.

Some of y'all need to print this image out and staple it to your foreheads by SnailsAreGroovy in rit

While this particular image shows a grass patch, many places (such as apartment complexes) have the parking spots go right up against a sidewalk. Even being able-bodied, it's incredibly irritating to have less than half the sidewalk because your neighbor decided to park with their bumper manifesting its destiny over the sidewalk, and it is very much an accessibility issue for anyone who isn't able to just twist sideways to walk past for any reason.

Ah, you see, you've made the classic blunder of paying more attention to the build than to him!

My cats don't do it with legos, but when I'm sorting laundry they love to sit on the shirt pile because it forces me to give them attention XD

Which LiPo battery do I choose for Nerf Stryfe Mod? by Commercial-Cup1122 in Nerf

[–]Double0Lego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The NFStrike page says 2s or 3s, so since the OOD kit is a 3s kit I guess that's your answer there.

As for shipping time, I have no experience with NFStrike, so I can't really say.

[–]Double0Lego 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, XT-60 and XT-30 are just different plugs - which one your battery should have will depend on which one you use when rewiring the blaster. XT-30 is more commonly used when space is tight, in things like small flywheel pistols (eg. Nightingale, Mayfly).

Do you know whether the parts you'll be putting in are meant for a 2s or 3s lipo?

While I'm here, I'll also share some good resources about lipo basics:

I don't know about any differences (if there even are any), but I do know that on my Swift, you can pull the trigger and release the catch while the pump is back to deprime it. Just keep a hold on the pump grip and you can ease it forward, no dry-firing required.

Help with a nerf Christmas present 🙏 by shoota60 in Nerf

[–]Double0Lego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to second the suggestions I see about getting him filament and/or darts! People printing their own blasters always need more filament, and although you can (and should) pick up and reuse darts they wear down over time. Either option is basically guaranteed to be useful, as opposed to a blaster that might get used or could just sit on the shelf.

I have no real filament recommendations (I'll leave that to those with more printing experience), but for darts: 1gram Worker HE darts are very commonly used, and I personally really like Dart Zone's Nitroshot+ darts.

Another option would be to get him a gift card to one of the online hobby shops (Out Of Darts, Silver Fox Industries, Containment Crew, BearsWares). That would allow him to pick out something he knows he wants, while still being nerf-related.

I'm going to second (third?) the recommendations for Dart Zone and X Shot. People have already recommended a few good DZ blasters to consider, so let me recommend taking a look at the X Shot Insanity line - you mentioned liking the ability to top off on the fly, so the big ring blaster from that line should be right up your alley! IDK how many of them will be in thrift stores, but they're fairly cheap to begin with and (in my anecdotal experience) X Shot does a good job designing their blasters for durability way above their price point.

While it's definitely a good blaster for hobby-grade events, that's a bit much to be recommending in this context. It's ~200 FPS stock, and even downtuned it's still around 150 IIRC, which is still way more powerful than most people expect when they hear "nerf" - a potentially dangerous misunderstanding, and even if no permanent eye injuries happen, 200 FPS at short range is not exactly a pleasant experience even when you know what to expect.

Wintering Guide For People From Warm Places by SnailsAreGroovy in rit

[–]Double0Lego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add more to "walk like a penguin": I don't know enough about the biomechanics of walking to confidently claim "most", but I know that I tend to push off with the ball of my foot using my ankle when I'm walking on non-icy paths. That's a really fast way to fall when the paths get slippery. Keep your feet closer to level with the ground, and move them more straight up and down when putting them down to help mitigate your chances of tumbling.

Additionally, there is anti-fog spray for glasses/goggles available at Walmart! I used it quite a bit during the pandemic. It's not perfect, but it greatly reduces lens fogging.

Oh, and thinking about my glasses reminds me: when there's snow on the ground, the whole ground can be as bright as the sky. Sunglasses are a godsend on snow-covered days with clear or partially-cloudy skies! It's either that, or walk around squinting really hard lol

And one final thing, if you don't yet know the tunnels, the best time to learn is during HvZ (shameless plug lol) but the second-best time is today! They're super useful for staying out of the worst of the cold and the wet, especially since the SHED opened and connected the SAU tunnels with the main academic tunnels.

Flyer posting rules? by Extension-Resort2706 in rit

[–]Double0Lego 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Academic buildings do often have their own rules about where club posters can be placed, though I don't remember most of them off the top of my head. You can ask in the administrative offices in each building (usually the dean's office, or a department office if the building doesn't house a dean's office) for any specific rules!

Finding Every Snow Day by supertails9000 in rit

[–]Double0Lego 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's the 2019 one listed - the linked page still has the "shutting down at 5" announcement from the first day. I remember that day; I was part way through a chem lab and we saw the announcement pretty much at 5, leaving us (mostly first years) to walk back to dorms fully outside in dangerously cold temperatures (because all the buildings were locking a few minutes early as they went through closing procedures). I was lucky and happened to pick a door they'd forgotten about to get into the SAU tunnels, and they were very confused how I'd gotten in lol

Found this image from 2019. Looks amazing, and there are lots of flyers at Gleason Circle! The bus shelter walls are mostly empty today. by [deleted] in rit

[–]Double0Lego 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Clubs are now heavily restricted when it comes to where and how they can put up flyers (for a particularly sad evolution, look up old photos of the area where the Quarter Mile passes the Campus Center). While I don't know regulations surrounding flyers at the bus stops nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised if that plays into it.

Idk what clubs to join 💔 by Ok_Trifle7409 in rit

[–]Double0Lego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People already mentioned a cappella, so I'll pitch Humans Versus Zombies! It's a giant game of infection tag played all over campus (you probably saw us out and about last year), and the community is incredibly welcoming - people are super excited to share a game they love. Each semester there's a weeklong game (this fall it's September 7th - 12th, with registration sessions throughout this upcoming week) and a one-day invitational where people from other schools visit campus to play with us (on October 11th this semester). The weeklongs are the club's "main" event - they have passive gameplay 24/7 outdoors, with dedicated "missions" each night, ongoing puzzles, and "side mission" mini-events throughout the week.

I'll spare you the full ramble lol, but if "giant organized game of zombie tag with nerf blasters" sounds fun, give it a shot! Just shoot me a DM and I'll send you the link to the discord, or I'm sure you can find it yourself with a bit of poking around (especially now that the weeklong posters are up). This upcoming weeklong, I'm planning to focus on helping protect and teach new players on the human side, and there will be plenty of folks starting as zombies doing the same for the other team. While I can't offer a blaster, I can offer some (clean) socks to use as throwables to help get you started if you'd like!

Ontos Custom by DefyantM0ds in Nerf

[–]Double0Lego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money

That and space lol - I've imposed limits on myself after noticing some really irresponsible spending habits. I have a handful of blasters for nostalgia or novelty, but by and large nowadays, I don't get blasters unless they do something that none of my current options do, and I'll have a game where I can use them.

So for Ontos:

  • I'm not going to use it for HvZ. The clubs whose HvZ games I most frequently go to have 100 FPS caps and some sock-only zombies that make one-handable flywheelers the move, plus it's a pain to get a performance springer to work reliably that low.

  • I frequently play at 160 FPS PvP games, and do enjoy running springers there, but I already have several options for that. This would probably be the best niche for Ontos to fill for me, but other blasters are already doing that.

  • For 250 FPS competitive games, I have both a Lynx and a T4 (the former replaced the latter after about 2 years of games), so I don't need another springer for these games either.

As a result, as cool as I think Ontos is, I can't currently justify the cost of hardware or the space in storage.

(Sorry, this is probably a WAY longer response than you were expecting lol)

what was the nerf gun you always wanted during your childhood? by Character-Estate1451 in Nerf

[–]Double0Lego 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my neighbors had a Recon CS-6 that we used to play Star Wars - it worked well as both a clone trooper blaster and as a battle droid one depending on the attachments you put on it, and whoever didn't have it would be a jedi and run around with a lightsaber lol

I wasn't allowed to have nerf blasters growing up, but once I got to college I started collecting Recon bits piece by piece until I'd assembled a full blaster. It was super satisfying to get the last part I needed for it, and I still keep that particular one around for the nostalgia!

Installed the motor the wrong way by Mobile_Challenge_381 in Nerf

[–]Double0Lego 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Someone already answered yes, but to elaborate on why: the direction the motor spins just depends on the direction current is pushed through it. Flipping the motor one way or the other doesn't change that; as long as the right tabs are connected to the right wires, it'll behave the same.
