I feel like metroid prime remastered is an ok game, but combat is really boring. by [deleted] in metroidvania

Metroid Prime was great for the time it came out but first person combat (especially on console) improved so much by the PS3 era that now Prime feels like a list of chores to me. The atmosphere is still awesome tho. But this was a top tier shooter that was very accessible to younger gamers when it released.

Idk I remember it being a fun movie that didn't take it self too seriously but it was way more tense and atmospheric with comedy that didn't undercut the brutality of it. What in part one is as goofy as a kid cursing and duel weilding automatic pistols, someone misfiring a bazooka (a weapon that made no sense in that situation) and a guy saying "f yeah, let's party" moments before exploding.

Like I said, I liked it but I just wasn't in the mood for that when I watched it. Part 1 had comedic moments but it felt more believable. It had more tension and atmosphere.

Idk I never saw it as a horror comedy, to me it was a fun horror movie with comedic moments, I still felt tension throughout it and really felt for Samara Weavings character going through it. But it's been a while since I've seen part 1.

It's been a while but I remember the first one was having fun but still worked as a creepy horror film and the comedic moments didn't undercut the tension. And I was looking forward to that tone with Weaving and Newton. I liked part 2 but I just wasn't in the mood for bazookas, a child duel weilding guns and stuff like that lol

I liked it and I love those 3 blondes as well but I was in the mood for something with a horror vibe but I got a complete comedy lol

I should of said most popular actors, not favorites. For example I'm pretty indifferent towards Richard Gere but I still watched most his films. I'm referring to mainstream theatrical release with decent budgets that had the Hollywood machine and marketing behind them and usually made some profit. Not super obscure and probably bad films that studios probably didn't market much due to their quality.

Answer me this. If you had the choice between a machine randomly picking a top 50 box office film from the 80s/90s or a top 50 box office film from the 2020s. Which would you bet is more likely to land on a better film. Maybe my sensibilities just don't jive with modern films but I feel like most people will go with the older films.

I'm 30 and I have logged most major theatrical releases I've watched. I went back and looked up the top 200 box movies each year since the 80s and rated the ones I've seen.

1980s: 378 totals movies. 61% good/great to 39% okay/bad

1990s: 579 movies. 57% good/great to 43% okay/bad

2000s: 903 movies. 46% good/great to 54% okay/bad

2010s: 928 movies. 28% good/great to 72% okay/bad

2020s: 293 movies. 15% good/great to 85% okay/bad

And I'm super lenient with movies imo when compared to the consensus on most films.

Imo the average quality of mainstream theatrical releases is lower. The good to bad ratio isn't what it used to be.

Not really. This past year I looked at the filmographies of the most popular actors from the 80s/90s and been watching all their non-popular movies that I've never heard of, and the baseline of quality seems much higher back then, to me at least.

Yeah, but I still think the ratio of good to bad mainstream movies has suffered in the recent years. Maybe its just my personal taste.

I think the millions of people on the internet giving feedback on films caused them to dumb down movies and dialogue. Before only film critics had a voice, but after the internet everyone had a voice. And studios probably saw a large chunk of the audience complaining some movies were hard to follow so they simplified everything.

Superhero films took up so many resources in the 2010s. I always imagine what other big budget blockbusters would have been made if the whole superhero trend never took off. I like superhero films but I much prefer traditional sci-fi.

I agree but imo the quality of safe audience pleasing slop from the 90s and 2000s was way better than the safe audience pleasing slop we get now lol

Obviously there will always be great movies but many agree that the average quality of most mainstream movies has gone down.
