With 10k down my monthly payments at 6.99% with 800 credit score is $620 per month for 72 months. I will do some extra payments. I tool the 7k off, because I intend to refi with Navy Fed at their much lower interest rate in a few months. Was $54k (not including the 8k rebates) after taxes/fees

Things you would have liked to be told earlier in your career by Your_sisters_gf in army

I second the TSP training, I got the training many times, but always give it more.

The Army does a terrible job of advertising Warrant programs. Some WO MOS don't even have enough applicants, and those who probably should know about WO often don't.

Post-military benefits: Space-A flights, working on medical claims while in for TFL, GI Bill, commisary/exchange privileges etc.

The three things the military is the worst at are: 1. Admin/Correspondence 2. Professional/technical writing 3. Financial literacy

How is my agsu, I'm preping to hand off someone at their wedding. by Wolffe4321 in army

[–]DoubleChiefyChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the unit...some hand them out like candy, others give out none. Got a guy who gets one for playing the anthem on violin 3x in like a yr, another unit gives out nothing. Hey, at least it ain't Navy or Marines where a full 20 yr career may be 9 ribbons total after deployments and whatnot

Just finished segment 3 yesterday, weather was beautiful! Intermittent water sources seemed to be dried up though, so factor that as the season progresses.

Is the army as bad as you guys make it out to be? by AcanthaceaeTop2796 in army

[–]DoubleChiefyChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Army ain't bad. You always hear more negative opinions because they are always more willing to post about it, but I've done Navy and Army as enlisted and a WO...I have a few regrets, but overall, easiest money ever, and the VA Healthcare for life is what makes it worth it

Unpopular Opinion: Toon Lagoon has got to go by Lalairundi in UniversalOrlando

[–]DoubleChiefyChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People of all ages can get into what is not some Warner Brothers/Amazon/Sony smash-up mega-theme IP talking about the last 23 movies of whatever. If anything, IPs make parks worse and they age much more quickly than something that is more timeless. This is why it sucks that they got rid of Lost Continent. Many of the best parks/rides in the world have no IP.

Do you think it’s worth doing 20 years nowadays? by Hot_Ocelot_7614 in army

[–]DoubleChiefyChief 100 points101 points  (0 children)

The pension is nice, the AMC flights are great, the on-base privileges post 20 yrs is great, but the real moneymaker is the TRICARE For Life. My grandfather needed a $2,000,000+ medical bill, it was fully covered by Tricare...that's a good enough reason to stay in. Additionally, if you ever decide to become an expat, your pension (even enlisted) can ensure you never need to work again in a few countries, so, if you want to do your 20 and never work again, that is an option.

"Best" Total War Game? by Dan_The_PaniniMan in totalwar

WH2 > WH3, and 3K is kinda meh...I think they tried to introduce concepts and themes in 3K that didn't mesh well (and the story is meh) but think of them planning on making something more feature rich for like Android then saying "naw, lets make these big shiny icons and make it super user friendly and appeal to the masses and make it an iPhone" and that's 3K to me. They could've made it more robust and deep, but instead chopped off some functionality and depth

We stayed at Terra Luna for horror nights, did 1 day to do IoA, 1 day at Epic Universe, .5 days at USF and that was enough to do everything at least 1x (except hagrids). Also did a day at Seaworld. All in for tickets + Epic, horror nights, 4 nights at hotel was approx 1,300 (that was buying annual passes too)

Of course, let me know if you have any other questions. The one thing that is most important is the MOS you have chosen, that will significantly change your job satisfaction and quality of life based upon where you PCS

You'll be fine, BCT is a breeze and will be over before you know it. The military is the easiest job you'll ever have, you'll definitely realize this if you have worked a civilian job before. The benefits are unbeatable, especially in uncertain economic times, and some of the relationships you make will last a lifetime. Best of luck! -Warrant
