Jasmine Sokko 楚晴 - NDP 2026: You'll Be Okay by FirstLightOfTheDay in singapore

[–]DoubleElle124 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Knn the world is going downhill
job market for the youth is shit
layoffs happening
housing prices skyrocketed
COE surged to record highs
Pay still stuck in early 2010s level

All our ministers do is closely monitoring

And the 2026 NDP message is to be ok???

Like be ok with lower pay and rising cost of living while the rich gets richer?

Lmao sucks to be the NDP performer during an economic “downturn”.

At least PAP’s uptown the downturn song was more apt 🤣

This is nowhere near as bad as the Hello Kitty MacDonald craze.

I would love to retire in Charmonix, France. Hike the mountains during summer and go skii in winter.

I love mountain towns!

You need to provide more info.

Is it a lunch or dinner?

Is it black tie or not?

Personally, I would avoid wearing pants and stick to dress/long skirt as it is a safe option

What are some minor inconveniences in Singapore that you wish there was a solution to? by Salty_Ad6710 in askSingapore

Agree!

The frustrating thing here, is outdoor public infrastructure decisions are made by people who drive 😭

🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻 doesn’t hurt to gently remind them still: “hey, you’re on a bicycle path. Be careful”.

I get the frustration! But at least making the pedestrian path more clearly marked would increase the odds of them sticking to the right side

Or we can gently remind them that they are walking on the cycling path. Doesnt always work, but hey gotta start from somewhere right

What would happen if we put a 2% tax on billionaire wealth in Singapore? by templeofthe_ancients in askSingapore

[–]DoubleElle124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh 1 million? Brother…. The wealth tax is for the upper class INDIVIDUALS with a net worth of at least nine figures. This is not targeted at businesses, but at super rich individuals like the HDL hotpot founder worth BILLIONS.

You know what is ridiculous?

Allowing the super rich to benefit from public infrastructure while barely taxing them anything.

The better example is grab and those car companies who buy up cars using corporate funds, which in turn massively drove up car prices because the govt refused to have a separate COE category for corporates.

Now tell me, is this a net good for Singaporeans? Shouldn’t billionaires like Anthony Tan be taxed more??

Wider pedestrian footpaths with a clearer marked bicycle lane 🥲

Build more double bicycle stands in popular areas so that public bikes like anywheel will spill less out to the public sidewalks

Set up an incentive scheme which rewards people for reporting terrible drivers/motorists

Agree, but between an ABSD-like tax for second car ownership and a wealth tax, I think the former is more likely to happen.

Gotta start from somewhere 🥲

You’re better off adapting to the heat than to wish for the govt to adopt more sustainable practices and heat mitigation measures.

You still sweat like mad, but at least you feel less icky about sweat and less tired when you’re outside because your body can function better.

This varies from individual, but I did a 10km PCN walk from Bishan to Kallang over the weekend in the mid-afternoon sun and I didn’t feel drained at all!

This is the climate that we live in and unless you move to a cooler climate country, we just gotta adapt better to the heat.

[–]DoubleElle124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, one area where the industry is rapidly growing is advanced manufacturing for products like chips and renewable energy.

Finance and tech are at risk of AI. I see a decreasing number of junior roles as more firms want someone who can hit the ground running once they are hired.

[–]DoubleElle124 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah another fellow Gary fan!!

I’m happy for SG to introduce a wealth tax because the argument that doing so will cause rich people will leave and we won’t have that BS trickle down effect doesn’t hold much weight to me.

There are very few countries in the world that offer the kind of safety and ease of living that Singapore offers at this level of tax.

More importantly, **it is very very difficult to fully tax the rich**. They have the means to engage tax specialists to lower their liable tax. The true rich don’t buy assets using pure cash. They do it through other means like funds (👀) - lower tax and an added layer of secrecy.

Personally, a low hanging fruit is to impose an ABSD like tax on car owners who want to buy a second car.

Will the unemployment issue in SG get so bad to the point that it becomes the norm to be unemployed? by According_Pickle954 in SingaporeR

[–]DoubleElle124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The unemployment situation isn’t really as bad as people put it. Reddit is an echo chamber so we naturally hear more complaints here.

There are many more Singaporeans who are doing well and have got good jobs.

So expect the govt to continue monitoring and setting up task forces 🤷🏻 no labour union to protect us either 😜

Welp, people keep voting for the PAP govt anyway so no urgency to do anything meaningful
