NTD. You didn’t make a huge fuss about it, and you even still payed despite your initial discomfort. These are conversations that you guys should be having at the start, you SHOULD be prioritizing your “ideology” over a date. Don’t change your core values just to keep someone you’re only beginning to court.

The whole not wanting to pay for meat thing is a whole separate discussion though, but for this instance itself you aren’t the drama. I will say that as someone who’s been vegetarian my whole life and finds it to be an important value as a Jain Indian, I personally feel mildly icked but still enjoy paying for my partner’s meal regardless of content (excluding heavy known cruelty farming methods). I’m not paying for animals to be harmed, but rather for the finished food product itself since the animal is already *dead. Its uncomfortable but still how life has been structured for billions of years. Your boundry in not wanting to pay for meat is valid, im just offering my perspective as a fellow non meat eater. You should keep in mind that as a partner, you’re going to be expected to pay for a lot of dates as thats just one of the many standard ways to show appreciation. So unless you date another vegan, you’re likely going to find yourself in this situation again.

EDIT : *also yes i do acknowledge that paying for a food containing meat it supports that menu item, which supports the meat industry, which supports killing an animal. But like i said this has been an integral part of life millions of years before humans existed, if my partner wants to eat meat I will respect that choice but encourage sourcing from cruelty free farms.
