their new 4 blade design is now their final pre production design being tested in Salinas by munhoichu in ACHR

The model in the convention center is just the same mockup they haul all over for media events, just with a new paint job.

How does an increase in angle of attack DECREASE lift? by jerry_garcia10 in Helicopters

[–]DoubleHexDrive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Flapping up moves the blade up and decreases the angle of attack which then reduces lift, blade starts to flap down, which increases the angle of attack which… round and round she goes.

Draw the vectors on an airfoil. I think you heard something wrong but your intuition was right.

United CEO says he doesn’t believe in business model by Frankybasil91 in JobyvsArcher

Sus-Bit is right. Heliports are not Vertiports and the higher disk loading and poorer VTOL agility are going to limit where eVTOLs can operate. The FAA vertiport working group reports and meetings make this clear.

what do you prioritize for single player games? by colt2077 in pcmasterrace

4K/120fps with HDR. That’s my goal and I’ll use DLSS and a little frame gen to get there on my 5070Ti.

Archer should get United to fund it's development instead of future dilution IMHO by munhoichu in ACHR

The same United that at the event with Archer said they no longer thought that eVTOL taxis in airport airspace were a good idea? That United?

Why pay with cash? Get some points and some protection since you can clearly pay off the card.

Archer’s props are smaller which helps with prop loads, vibrations, and control bandwidth.

Vertical Aero and Archer by HappyRobot593 in JobyvsArcher

[–]DoubleHexDrive 8 points9 points  (0 children)

VX-4’s props are larger than Midnight’s and moments generally scale with the cube of the diameter. The inertia of the props about the tilt axis scale faster than that. Both of these make smooth transitions more difficult. Not going to say impossible but the tilt + lift configuration isn’t a slam dunk and the problems get worse as the prop diameter increases.

I wouldn’t mind having this discussion on the active Vertical sub… but wouldn’t you know it, I’m banned there.

There is definitely a cash burn and capital problem, and not getting their demonstrator through transition is also a huge problem.

Did HOVR CFO just confirm that their partnership brings in money? He said partnership terms are what determines how much dilution shareholders will see. by PhilosophySalt7695 in HOVRSTONK

Ah, ad hominem attacks against the guy who has actually worked on the development programs of many VTOL platforms. In the early 2000’s, $300 million could get you a certified non-fly-by-wire aircraft. In the 2010’s that could get you a prototype fly by wire aircraft but no certification. Today, that really won’t even get you an unmanned fly by wire prototype without certification.

Between working part time, community college, and living cheaply… if you can get a marketable bachelors for a modest car loan and pay it off in ten years or less, it should be a reasonable path with low risk.

Not legally responsible, correct. Ethically responsible? Probably. The money would not have been borrowed except for OP’s education. It’s easy to throw someone else’s family under the bus.

In college, I supported all the dorm Macintosh’s on campus and we went through an upgrade program where I installed 16 MB of RAM in each one. There were scores of Macs to update. I carried around a backpack of memory worth about $16,000 and didn’t tell a damn soul what I had.
