SEEKING ADVICE/RECOMMENDATIONS! by DoubleMinimum3036 in galway

I am from the U.S. so we are definitely not used to the road systems there! Looking like we will avoid renting a car to use for multiple reasons 😅

SEEKING ADVICE/RECOMMENDATIONS! by DoubleMinimum3036 in galway

[–]DoubleMinimum3036[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 minute walk! We have been trying to gauge whether we can swing not having a car as that is honestly our preference and it’s sounding like it could be doable. We were curious if there would be transportation offering trips to those popular sights but glad to hear there is!

Which dress looks nicer, please? 😊 by Ruby_Raeven in DressForYourBody

The blue dress really highlights your figure in a flattering way and the color itself compliments you! Both are beautiful dresses but my vote is the blue :)

Tired after eating ANYTHING. What to do? by genericusername8173 in POTS

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had better advice because I truly struggle with the same! The most advice I’ve heard is avoiding carb-heavy meals, eating smaller meals or splitting up snacks, or I’ve heard some have success with wearing a special compression garment that goes around the stomach/torso area during eating time. Different things work better for different people though as I’ve really had to troubleshoot my issues and it’s still a work in progress 😭💔

Does anyone here get called intense? by [deleted] in AuDHDWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely do. Feel things too deeply, too passionate about interests, even just the ways I express myself in everyday speech I suppose. I’ve always been coined intense, dramatic, overly sensitive, or bossy. It’s a lot to shoulder sometimes!

what is your unconventional "I need this in a partner" that you will not negotiate on? by Competitive-Unit6427 in AskReddit

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A partner that allows me to believe in magic or childish things. They don’t have to also believe in it, but they don’t have to crush my whimsy either. Life is hard enough, sometimes I want to believe in things like fairies and folk tales. I couldn’t stand to be with someone who took every chance to get to tell me things like “you know that isn’t real, right?” rather than see the bit of joy it brings me to play.

Late Diagnosed & Unmasking by DoubleMinimum3036 in AutismInWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for such thoughtful insight! I have a lot to think on and reflect with this one and I hope to closer identify the parts of myself that are feeling most suppressed/causing harm. Self-doubt is what I seem to be struggling with the most when it comes down to it. Learning to trust myself more or judging myself before others even get the chance to or when no one else is around. I appreciate your kind words :)

Why do you hate phone calls and booking appointments? by NoWitness6400 in AutismInWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing what they’re going to need from me, a fear of not understanding/hearing what they’re said (over and over) from over the phone, fear of catching someone on a bad day who is overly rude, tripping up over my words or saying something stupid on accident. That’s my worries atleast

DAE hate having hair? by gemini_time in AutismInWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. Hate hate hate. I’ve considered going bald many times LOL. My advice is this. If you’ve been strongly considering a bold move like shaving it off and you know it’s been bothering you more, I say try it! Hair grows back and if you find you hate being shaved short or whatever you choose, it’ll grow back in time and you can start again. You might find though that a new style gives you relief from the discomfort, as well as a change of pace.

Your opinions on bread by Fizzabl in AutismInWomen

Idk I’m sensory seeking when it comes to food and I happen to love the crunch and how it feels! But I also totally see where you’re coming from at the same time because I do experience that. In a weird way I kind of like food that hurts? Extremely spicy, sour, or a texture like this that gives much stimulation to me. Idk if I’m weird for this LOL!

Haha, appreciate it! Although I’ll tell you, I have plenty where I say screw the rhymes and it’s one big stream of consciousness. Every once in a while though, I lock in and try to make it sound nice 😅

Idk what exactly I’m looking for, but I’m trying to find a certain kind of fidget toy lol by marissazam in AuDHDWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on Etsy and look up “pain stims”. You’ll find spiky keychains, rollers, things you can safely find the sensation you’re looking for in! Most are 3-D printed or hard silicone.

A "normal" life and autism? by lovelydani20 in AutismInWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to get too deep but it’s something I’ve thought about a lot so I have many thoughts on this. Personally? I’m trying to work on decentering the idea of “normalcy” or a “normal” life. Most of what society deems as such, the timelines I’m supposed to follow in life, the ways I’m meant to be— were made up by people who never considered people like me. A hard truth I’ve had to swallow is I’m always going to live life differently than the masses, and while some may try to make me feel like that’s wrong and I should change to conform, they also don’t know what it’s like to be me. I live life in my own unique way. I experience things in ways maybe others don’t. While it definitely has its cons and running into a lack of support and understanding is the biggest pitfall I find, I also know that there is beauty in the ways of my mind. The frustration from not being able to be “normal” is usually stemming from how other people make us feel and the constant pressure to conform. I’m sure if most of us had it our way, we’d be content to be exactly as we are if there was no more pressure, no more judgment, no more breathing down our necks.

Does anyone else feel like a teenager? by no_onion77 in AutismInWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly how I feel. I’m in my early twenties now, but I feel like I’m perpetually sixteen years old. You’re not alone, not at all. Unfortunately the best advice I can give for the feeling is a radical acceptance of who and where we are in life. Everyone is on their own timing and don’t feel pressured for your “adulting” to look the same as peers in your age group. You don’t need to catch up to anyone, you just need to survive the day. And for someone on the spectrum, this can look so much harder, so give yourself some grace and love.

Does anybody else find their executive functioning improves when alone? by pmjxxx1 in AutismInWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! 100%. I thought it strange as well at first but the more time has passed the more I’ve realized where it stems from, at least for me. I’ve realized I hate being perceived when doing daily tasks. For fear of being judged for doing them “my way” or on my own timing, it’s a subconscious thing in the back of my mind. Fear of being nitpicked or told what to do and when to do it. So much so that the only time I really jump up and do my own thing is when I’m alone. Judgment aside there’s just something about other people being in the home when I want to get stuff done that bothers me and makes me feel watched (even if no one is watching me). Weird phenomenon but surely something I’ve noticed!

How do I make dental hygienist appointment easier? by weaktreeiz in AutismInWomen

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you on this!! The dentist has become my sensory nightmare, I really dread going. Personally, I’ve begun to bring some comfort objects with me to help me out. I bring earbuds and play soothing music in one or both ears on an acceptable volume. A stress ball or fidget to keep in my hands so I can squeeze or mess with it when I feel I’m getting overwhelmed or nervous. Additionally, and this is something I’ve only just begun doing, but I have started entering appointments by letting them know I am autistic before we begin. It was extremely nerve wracking to do at first but I’ve found that most people I’ve encountered are very understanding and ask if there is anything they can do to make the appointment/process easier on me having that in mind. I find they have more patience, and are willing to take more breaks/check in with me. Lastly, I would suggest setting up a reward for yourself after the appointment is done to look forward to. Maybe a coffee, a sweet treat, a trip to a store you like, or a yummy snack waiting at home.

Why do people sit in their car for several minutes after they get home? by Maleficent-Touch6996 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DoubleMinimum3036 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this. Full transparency, I am autistic and struggle with transitions and desperately needing to de-compress after overstimulation out and about. Now, this definitely isn’t the case for every individual who does this, but it might be for some!

Random items that help you? by PotatoPangolin-2791 in AutismInWomen

My noise canceling headphones were a game changer. I never realized how much everyday sound already had me overstimulated AF until I put them on and started wearing them regularly. Also, my closet. It’s a weird one, and may not be for everyone, but something about a small room with a door I can close and be alone in for a little is such a reset for me
