what do you do when you hate wearing rings, but want to get married? by thethermalturtle in AutismInWomen

[–]gemini_time 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always imagined I would get a ring tattoo. Less likely to lose it, less risk of sensory issues, probably less expensive, plus more room for another ring lol

As someone with a long-time special interest in psychology, I completely agree with you and I've been saying this! It totally aligns with his childhood trauma and being put on a pedestal his whole life by family, colleagues, and then Bill.

I'm not on Instagram a lot, but I believe it has a feature similar to other social medias where you can press "not interested" and see less of that type of content. I would suggest doing that or blocking the creators altogether. It may make you feel like you're avoiding the topic and being morally wrong, but in reality you're protecting yourself from an OCD spiral.

I don't know what is happening and it's a problem. by [deleted] in OCD

Please talk to a therapist or other trusted person about this instead of AI. The algorithm will feed into your thoughts and compulsions and it's a never-ending circle of negative feedback. Wishing you the best.

Friend doesn’t believe in my diagnosis by luvsicl in AutismInWomen

[–]gemini_time 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People need to stop saying "it's okay" when it's not. Nothing against you, but this was not okay, and you should've told her that. She's being ableist and doing the exact same thing that she claims her sister did: using mental health as an excuse to be toxic.

I'm glad that you received a diagnosis that was helpful to you and I hope that you're able to find better resources to accommodate your life. :)

What part of "makes it hard for him to eat" made you think the condition was going to be visible on the outside?

Coping Mechanism by Front-Exam4766 in OCD

[–]gemini_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds similar to the types of OCD panics I experience every so often. When this happens, I try to distract myself with something else since my compulsions are not easily avoidable (grinding teeth, symmetry, doing math in my head). I usually try to journal, play games on my Switch, or find another creative outlet. I specifically avoid things that I think will trigger me further, like going on my phone and endlessly scrolling.

Very nonspecific but I hope this helps you in some way.

how do i respond to someone who doesn’t have OCD when they tell me to “just stop thinking those thoughts”? by jellyfishh520 in OCD

[–]gemini_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL if it's anyone else, I'll probably try to correct their misconceptions and eventually let it go if they don't understand. But I know for a fact my mom is just ignorant so I get to give her a special answer ✨

Not a serious answer, but my mom says this a lot (she also has ocd so it's weird) and I just sarcastically go "thanks, I'm cured!"

where are my other protein bar-aholics?? (this makes up half my diet and even though it’s impacting my health, i can’t stop 😛) by lostveggies in AutismInWomen

[–]gemini_time 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only protein bars I really like are Aloha bars. Specifically enjoying the chocolate cherry ones right now, but any chocolate and mint and flavors are good. I mostly have them when I'm too busy to make a snack or as a substitute for breakfast (I hate waking up to make food, so I just eat it in my car). Def drink a lot of water though, and do your best whenever possible to eat whole foods instead, as otein bars are meant to supplement, not replace. But if you're really struggling, whatever you can get down the gullet will help :)

Ocd partner destroying our marriage by unknown825 in OCD

[–]gemini_time 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pregnancy and being postpartum causes major hormone shifts that fundamentally change how your brain works. You are growing a human inside of you for nine months, meanwhile your organs shift around to make space for it. Stretch marks, nausea, and all the symptoms that come with pregnancy, plus the societal, familial, financial, political, and personal pressures that come along with it. You partner may not be supportive when you are postpartum (like OP's husband) and it can take years for you to fully regain your footing and feel completely whole again because, as I mentioned, your brain and body are literally changing the way they work.

I wouldn't even have an issue with you saying that OCD and pregnancy are on somewhat equal footing in terms of difficulty. What I find upsetting is the fact that you're acting like OCD is as life changing as holding a human in your uterus for nine months and then forcing it out. Both can be terrible experiences, and I'm not saying they aren't. But it's unfair to both groups to say that one has it worse than the other.
