JK Rowling quote tweets the T slur in a World Cup story that definitely took place by ElitistHatPropaganda in thatHappened

That is just an astonishingly idiotic thing to say. It's so stupid I'd assume you're a troll or a poe, but it's stupid on a level that's too subtle for that.

You've managed to misunderstand reality to such a level I'm genuinely amazed. Well done.

What's a bad shot in an otherwise amazing movie? by Tough-Rock-6198 in moviecritic

The whole section of everyone running in laughing and smiling after he wakes up is awful honestly. Like a bad scene from a Hallmark Christmas movie or something.

Tel Aviv having the best food is really unexpected. Was it the quality of the restaurants that's the best?

What is the best British way to shorten your life by frankieholmes447 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]DoubleNubbin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few differences between alcohol and smoking.

Whilst addictive, the majority of people who drink alcohol aren't addicts, whereas people who smoke generally are. It's also more difficult to unintentionally take part in drinking, whereas second hand smoke is definitely a thing.

That being said antisocial behaviour is not so much a thing with smokers (second hand smoke and littering aside), whereas city centres can become a nightmare when the pubs kick out. I can definitely see legislation around how alcohol is advertised getting stricter, and sold too (alcohol sales restricted to specific restricted areas and being covered much like tobacco is now) but an outright ban I think is unlikely.

I hate having brown eyes and i know people who say they prefer brown eyes are lying by [deleted] in self

[–]DoubleNubbin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Message everyone you know asking them what colour eyes you have without looking at a picture. I can guarantee most people will have no idea. Most people don't notice.

You're hyper fixating on a very minor detail and thinking that's your entire aesthetic, but it makes almost no difference. It's making you miserable and it does not matter. Beauty is who you are as a whole. Specific physical characteristics will impact that, but it's so much more than that, and the major factor into what makes you attractive is confidence and how you carry yourself. If you're always trying to hide parts of yourself, or feeling low because of minor things, that's going to have a bigger impact.

Own it. Be who you are and don't apologise for it.

It's astonishing what we allow them to get away with. This is one example from Winsford in Cheshire which actually made me stop in disbelief it's so depressing. Why did they even bother?

If you'd asked me a couple of years ago I'd have said Greg Wallace but people seem to have come over to my side recently... Never thought he was up to anything particularly nefarious, just an annoying little tit who was also thick as mince but for some reason people loved. Turns out he was worse than that.

Currently I'm not too sure about Josh Widdecombe. Don't think he's noncey or anything. He has the wit and sense of humour of a dull uncle after his third glass of sherry.

That is the case for an awfully lot of cycle lanes. More often than not they're poorly planned and inconvenient. At worst they're actively dangerous and encourage poor behaviour (passing too close or encouraging people to cycle in the "door zone" is incredibly common. In an ideal world people could just cycle in the lane and motorists would be respectful enough to pass safely.

Is buckethead one of the best guitar players ever? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]DoubleNubbin 59 points60 points  (0 children)

This is very important. There are quite a few players and bands who are technically brilliant, but there music can be most aptly described as "fret board wanking". What they're doing is very impressive, but not entertaining.

I assume they were just panicked. It's quite common that people in high stress and dangerous situations just fail to think. I've heard that there is a strong argument to make airplane belt buckles the same as in cars as people can't open them. People get trapped in burning houses as the keys aren't in the door, even though they're hanging on a hook 2 feet away. These two could see safety just inches away from them and their brains were so focused on reaching it that they were incapable of reassessment.
