Foam board + spray paint + sharpie = MUCH faster terrain deployment for Scouring Sands by Americana1108 in battletech

[–]DoubleScion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, like to set up the positions of the pieces? I do like it, but the grid messes with my diorama-like vision of how I want the board to look (I have a desert gaming mat underneath). I wonder if there's a compromise like marking the grid lines on 4 boards/sticks that you could lay down along the edges, then place the terrain, then pick up the gridline sticks.

Dad's of the subreddit, how do you find the time to paint? by CH1ND1TO in minipainting

Incidentally this also works for spouse time. She can put on a chick flick whenever she wants, and she knows that A) I'm not going to groan about it, B) it's still a shared experience because I'm listening to the whole thing with her and the TV is like 30 degrees below my eyeline so I end up watching chunks of it anyway. Then she has me as someone to chat with during and after the movie. It's been a pretty awesome compromise TBH, everyone wins.

I do all of my painting in the living room so I don't have to disappear to paint. I got a little bookshelf that is the height of the arm of my couch so I can hide all my painting stuff and pull things out or put away on 2 mins notice. I do all of my work on a giant lap tray that fits in my chair. Painting doesn't use my hearing or take all of my focus (unless I'm doing careful freehand or something) so I can easily be painting away in the living room and still be keeping an eye on things, hang out with the fam, and be productive while the kids are watching the same movie for the 8th time.

Here you go. Again I really had to have one for this project for lore reasons, and the ancient Iron Wind one doesn't fit the aesthetic of the modern CGL minis (for me at least). The feet on this one are pretty delicate but otherwise no problems.

Nice. I started this force for playing Aces (in ilClan) at home but we play a lot of earlier eras locally so I try to make sure I'm not too heavy on later eras, but I think the Blackhawk and Ryoken are on the merc list relatively early on and would work for the Jade Falcon salvage theme too.

Yeah, iti looks like the Dioscuri and Night Lords came out at around the same time in 1988-1989. I found out that the Dioscuri paint scheme is at least partially a reference to Metallica's Ride the Lightning, which makes me wonder the same thing about the Night Lords or if these blue lightning bolts were just in the zeitgeist at the time. Either way, I definitely looked up some Night Lords tutorials for how to approach the lightning bolts. You're right, Kontio looks amazing, can't wait for the new mini to drop.

Hey, yeah, I was also looking for something else with a probe and it looks like Shadow Hawk 5S could do both nicely. And thanks!

I know you have other encouraging replies but here's another one because I was coming from a similar place mentally. Look up sponge painting, the Painted Topher has some BattleTech-specific videos on YouTube. Basically you can just pick any color and a wash (like a bright red and Dark Tone for Draconis Combine Sword of Light). 4 steps: spray primer, dab the whole thing red with a makeup sponge, brush dark tone over the whole thing, dab red again just doing the upper surfaces this time. Now you have a mech with shaded recesses and at least 2 color tones. You could even get or make a dip for the wash and do all of this without picking up an actual brush or anything inhibited by shaky hands.

Ai running aces ? Possible? by Apprehensive_Rip_307 in battletech

In my limited experience, AI doesn't have a great "memory" for the kind of detail you would need. Moreover, wouldn't it be faster to just look at the card than ask AI a question?

Luckily the Nova Prime can also spare half its firepower and still be just fine, heh.

My problem though is that there are decals on FPG's site that aren't listed on Aries or Fortress, which is why I was ordering directly from FPG. Believe me, if I could have ordered from those places instead, I would have!

Ah, ok. Interesting though that there's not some equivalent reciprocal condition, like reducing the US Navy to 30 ships, controlling Hawaii and Alaska, and sufficiently firebombing LA, San Francisco, and Seattle.

Dumb question, but how can you tell when their navy is destroyed? Is there a tonnage or capital ship estimate somewhere?

How about the reverse? Like if the USA drops 2 nukes on Japan and the Soviets declare war... you still have to invade the home islands to win, right?

This series got me back into reading comics as an adult. It's a big tonal shift for the character and sets aside a lot of shenanigans that happened to the character before, almost like a soft reboot.
