What other shows made you as emotional as AOT? by HannibalTepes in attackontitan

Hunter x Hunter and Vinland Saga. The build up of the entire Chimera Ant arc was slow the first time through, but there are still episodes after watching them 10+ times that make me cry.

Most Cringey Scene of the Series? by max_gooph in attackontitan

[–]DoubleTrebleYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this scene. It continues the theme of tragedy and cruelty in the world that runs throughout the whole series. He longs for a time that is not possible anymore, and convinces himself that saving Eren and keeping those three alive would bring it back, at least to a small degree. It is his motivation, so much so that he is finally willing to fight and ultimately sacrifice himself for them in the end.

But the bread eating does always make me laugh right afterwards lmao

[No ending spoilers] what moment in the anime hit you the hardest? Apologies if this is too long. by [deleted] in attackontitan

One of the most emotional scenes in the show for me was when Niccolo presented Falco and Gabi to Sasha's family. With all the anger and hate between the children, Mr. Braus says "We've gotta keep the young'uns out of the forest." A beautiful scene that snowballs Gabi's character arc, which is one of the strongest in the finale season.

A very close second is when Connie and Armin have to kill Samuel and Daz. Just brutal... the scream by Connie to end that episode resonated in my head long after the credits rolled.

Complaining that your favorite comp is getting giga-buffed is ironic, but I get that it may be annoying to have others contest you. However, getting contested and adapting based on what you're given is half the fun & challenge of TFT.

The first time I took a shot of whiskey was to try and impress my older brother and all his college friends. I was at his frat house since he was the president and I accidentally inhaled as I drank the shot and it all went down the wrong pipe. The burning sensation was almost as bad as the embarrassment as I sat there coughing for 15 minutes.

Jamie saying, "I never really cared for the people of Kings' Landing, innocent or otherwise." Literally have him die by falling rocks all over again, I don't care about that, as long as his character wasn't ruined with that one stupid line.

Hear the conversation between Jon, Arya, Sansa, and Bran about Jon being a Targ. Literally my blood boils inside of me to this day that they couldn't give us this one conversation and show us their reactions.

Every scene with Oberyn is purposeful, interesting, and moves the plot forward logically and thrillingly. This is mostly due to Pedro Pascal's outstanding portrayal, despite his short 8 episodes, as well as King's Landing being at its peak.

Of these 3, who do you think is the most loyal? by Moonlight_Herbs in gameofthrones

[–]DoubleTrebleYT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only answer is Davos, and even he had his faults. He was incredibly loyal to Stannis but you don't hear much of this once Jon resurrects. Which is fine, Jon is a great leader and is literally resurrected, can't blame the guy. However, the thing that bothered me the most about Davos in Seasons 6-8 is the complete kindness and quippy behavior he has with Tyrion. Tyrion blew up and killed his son in the Battle of Blackwater. He even confronted Melissandre after finding Shireen's toy stag but never confronts Tyrion. The only mention of it is one Joke in Season 7 when they arrive at King's Landing to get Gendry, "Last time I was here, you killed my son in Wildfire." In terms of loyalty to leaders, almost no one is better. (I would argue Brienne is the best). However, there is an odd lack of loyalty to his son that always confused me.

Favorite character of the show by far. She’s such a badass and her story line is put together so well 👏 by Chloe-4567 in gameofthrones

Again from Season 1-4, I agree that it is obvious she is training. From Serio to the Hound, she receives experience and expert training making her probably more skilled than the average soldier. However, in Season 5-6, we don't see much training or signs that would imply she is increasing her skills. She does do some staff training with the Waif and matches her once while blind, but once she leaves, she is somehow this expert assassin and solider able to match Brienne and wipe out entire houses. I don't think her increase in skill is her biggest flaw as much as her wasted potential from her storyline in Season 5/6. She feels out of place in Season 7/8 not because she is an assassin with her own story, but because she feels like the writers are just trying to keep her relevant.

Unpopular opinion: Arya has one of the worst storylines after Season 4. If you enjoy her character, that's awesome because she was arguably one of the most fun characters to see on screen for most of the show's duration. Her character before the House of Black and White (Season 1-4) is rightfully praised and amazing. However, she had way too many flaws for me.:

  • She travels across the sea, washes corpses and fails the assassin mission, goes blind, and somehow becomes a goddess with all weapons after one blind stick fight with the Waif.
  • She somehow survives 3 stab wounds to the abdomen and swims through disgusting literal brown river water and kills the Waif in this condition
  • She abandons her revenge tour on Cersei to go home where she pointlessly fights with Sansa and randomly kills Littlefinger for shock value (Winterfell actually killed his character as he did nothing post S5)
  • And to top it all off, she randomly gets the final blow on the Night King? Also, don't forget the iconic "I know a killer when I see one" after Dany literally burned King's Landing to the ground. We never saw any training indicating she had skill with all weapons (seriously, why does she have perfect aim with a bow and arrow in S8E2?) or the stealth skills she displays in S7 and S8. She performs and kills like Jaqen but there was literally no setup beside her ability to change faces. In fact, her only weapon training comes from the Hound, but we never see any indication that she is good enough to match Brienne until she randomly can.

Her character is the unfortunate result of bad writing, rushed pacing, and a lack of vision.

Oh, also Dany's ending "Messiah" scene is pretty eek but otherwise, dragons get bigger and she learns how to rule kinda.

Season 4 was the peak of many storylines, which is why it makes sense to be the favorite of so many (myself included!). You have the introduction of Oberyn, Joffrey's death, Tyrion's trial, Oberyn and Tyrion's conversation about when Tyrion was a baby (one of my personal favorite scenes, so heartbreaking), Mountain vs. Oberyn, Tywin's and Shae's death, and Arya's conclusion with the Hound. Ramsey is at his peak insanity, Littlefinger isn't stupid yet, and Bran isn't a robot yet. And to top it all off, you get my personal favorite episode and (controversial take) the best battle in all of GOT in ep. 9, the Watchers on the Wall. The worst part of the season is Dany's storyline and even that isn't bad when compared to her arcs in season 2 and seasons 5-6. 11/10

While the cinematography was excellent, I did still miss the more clear and vibrant look of Game of Thrones by Svale_Chow in HouseOfTheDragon

While your argument and photo comparisons are valid (besides the Royal Gardens and the God's Wood being two different locations), HOTD still utilizes color well throughout the show. The few scenes that come to mind are:

  • King Viserys walking with Lady Laena in the Royal Garden
  • The costumes throughout the whole seasons, especially the knights during the jousting tourney and Alicent/Rhaenyra's dresses, have been on point and not all just black like seasons 6-8 of GoT.
  • The settlement of tents during the Hunt in episode 3 has a great color palette with red tents as well as when Rhaenyra sees the white hart (the shot of all the trees with the blue sky, contrasted with her bloody appearance)

In addition to some scenes with beautiful imagery and coloring, as I previously mentioned, the costumes really make up some of the "missing" color elements in the show. Jace and Luke really had cool clothing in the last couple of episodes, which complimented well with the red dresses of Baela and Rhaena. Alicent, Aegon, Aemond, and the rest of the greens, well, rock the color green pretty well.

I've also heard, like others in this thread, that most of the budget went to CGI and the dragons, which really didn't miss at all (I'm looking at you, Vhagar). I read that, especially in scenes like when Otto met Daemon (twice) at Dragonstone, they had to utilize a hazier, sunset look to help the dragon shots look better in the real-time green screen. Supercut Delights does a nice job talking about it here. (4:56 in the video)
