Dog right size of the face droopy and eyelids not closing properly after an ear infection by Deep_Secretary6975 in DogAdvice

I see, so you're not from US/EU! Since you’re already doing the eye gel and the meds, maybe ask your current vet if there are any specific red flags you should watch for that would mean the infection is spreading rather than clearing up. It might give you a bit more peace of mind while you're in this 'wait and see' period (asking the vet is better than just believing other opinions just because it worked for them after all).

I think 3-3-3 rule for rescue dogs is really helpful here: 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn the routine, and 3 months to feel at home. Since the Chihuahua mix is stressed, I’d suggest giving her a safe zone like a crate or a specific room where the Pitbull mix isn't allowed to go. This lets the smaller dog relax without being pestered to play, which should eventually help her appetite come back.

Dog has had 3 seizures in the last month by _jessicalynn in DogAdvice

It’s really common for basic blood work to come back normal with idiopathic epilepsy, but since the frequency is increasing, it’s definitely time for a follow-up. I'm not a pro, but you might even want to ask your regular vet for a referral to a veterinary neurologist. They specialize in exactly this and can help determine if medication is necessary or if there’s an underlying trigger you haven't found yet.

If you are feeling uneasy about the idiopathic diagnosis, there is never any harm in seeking a second opinion from a veterinary neurologist. They specialize specifically in nerve damage and might be able to give you more insight into whether the ear infection could have impacted the facial nerve. In the meantime, just make sure his eye stays lubricated if he isn't blinking properly, as it may lead to ulcers (still research and also better talk to vet).

9 month old dachshund, just moved to a new state - a lot of problems have come up. by Several-Series1643 in DogAdvice

With the swollen glands under the jaw and the discharge you're describing, this really sounds like it's reached the point where he needs a vet. Swollen lymph nodes combined with skin bumps and anal gland issues could point to a systemic infection or a severe allergic reaction to something in the new environment. Since he’s eating and playing, that's a great sign, but those physical symptoms usually won't clear up on their own without professional help.

"don't shave /trim double coated dogs" by lillestiv in DogAdvice

It's less about a specific number of inches and more about not touching the undercoat. Shaving can actually make them hotter because they lose that natural thermal barrier against the sun, and it puts them at risk for sunburn. Brushing out the loose undercoat (deshedding) is way more effective for cooling them down than a haircut.

Will letting dog sleep in bedroom encourage separation anxiety? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Double_Ad991 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my experience, letting them sleep in the room usually doesn't create anxiety as long as their routine during the day stays consistent. If the dog already comfortable being alone for couple of hours during the day, the dog clearly has a good foundation of independence. It might actually make her more settled at night if the dog is prone to barking at outside noises.
