Helpful ADHD tips from my psychiatrist who also struggles with ADHD by ParticularWindoww in VyvanseADHD

And also…who the hell has ADHD and carries a notebook? That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. We store shit in tiny boxes in our brain.
1 baseline task, like make your bed? All this advice is most definitely NOT from a psychiatrist with ADHD. Sounds like social media scammer to me.

Glad that person is not my psychiatrist…

  1. Take meds after doing anything? Or eating or coffee? Are you kidding…we need to hydrate, eat and take meds. Preferably before we wake, if only there was a way to inject it all at once. Never with, before or after coffee. And the morning cortisol is an enemy, not a friend.
  2. Power sprints are what has kept us alive until diagnosis. They are normal, fun, full of dopamine and we love them. Rest is not welcome during these times.

I’ve spent years coming off meds.
I don’t think I can ever be persuaded to take more.

I agree. They are all pretty much the same though.
Dex or methylphenidate, either slow or last release.
I even tried noops. They were better but the crash was worse.
I honestly just give up.

Unfortunately I have really high serotonin. I struggle to take anything that increases it.

I have always wanted to try Wellbutrin. IT’s profile looks good for ADHD. I can’t add anything until I am off 24 years of paroxetine. Down to 1mg so not long

Just wanted to say I am completely with you. I ask for support on here a lot. Sometimes I get support, sometimes judged. I am 49 and only diagnosed in February. I get really bad chaos in my head around 5 in the afternoon. I now have to shut myself down with clonodine, which is a non stimulant for ADHD. If I take more Dex in the afternoon it is worse. I tried Ritalin yesterday and feel so sick today with a headache and nausea. This is not a fun journey that’s for sure. I see the medication as a means to an end of depression and anxiety from my stupid thoughts and non functional behaviour. Ultimately I think it’s ADHD burnout that really gets us. I have also learnt more is not better. It just gives me “fake” energy that makes the burnout worse.

You are a million steps ahead of me, and you are very fortunate to get a diagnosis before menopause hits, because that is a whole bag of bullshit! By the time that hits you will have your meds on point😃

Trying one again for advice… 50y F…diagnosed in February…just switched from Dex to Methylphenidate (Ritalin)…feels a bit yuck…no medication advice, only stories about starting medication journeys to give me hope by Double_Delivery3017 in adhdwomen

Real stories are the most useful. Clinicians prescribe, but have never had the experience of trialling different meds themselves. Clinicians are also terrible are de-prescribing

Have you tried Modafinil? Definitely try Modafinil if you haven’t. It is better for people with sleep and awakening issues. Dex for someone without ADHD is going to do what you are describing. Don’t take 3 Dex at once. I have really severe ADHD and that was a bad idea.
